Quick Share to AirDrop file-sharing looks like it’s going Android-wide
Qualcomm has revealed Snapdragon phones will also be able to support Android's Quick Share to AirDrop file transfers
iPhone and Android smartphones are continuing on their journey towards a more harmonious future with chipmaker Qualcomm revealing support for a key file-sharing feature.
While Android’s Quick Share feature on the Pixel 10 works with Apple’s AirDrop, Qualcomm has said phones with its Snapdragon chips will also benefit from cross-platform file-sharing. In a post on X, Qualcomm said it “can’t wait for people to use this once enabled on Snapdragon in the near future.”
More details will follow, but essentially, it means the Android feature won’t be limited to phones running on Google’s Tensor chips and can support others including phones from manufacturers like Samsung, OnePlus and Honor, which sport Snapdragon chips.
Last week Google announced “Android and iPhone users can now share files, starting with the Pixel 10 family.” but it’s still not clear whether Apple was involved in creating the feature.
The interoperability feature follows the concession from Apple on adding RCS messaging, replacing SMS on iPhone to Android text conversations and the hook up on Find My and Find My Device networks to allow device trackers to be compatible with both operating systems.
In a blog post, Google wrote: “We built this with security at its core, protecting your data with strong safeguards that were tested by independent security experts. It’s just one more way we’re bringing better compatibility that people are asking for between operating systems, following our work on RCS and unknown tracker alerts.”
Whatever next? iMessage on Android?
