Zotac Zbox Nano XS AD11 Plus review

A PC for the post-PC era, the Zotac manages to pack a dual-core 1.65GHz AMD Fusion processor, 2GB of RAM and a 64GB SSD into its sub-Mac Mini frame – making it the ultimate net-top or media centre

There are phones in service bigger than the Nano XS – seriously, you could fit it in your jeans pocket. But this is no stripped-to-the-silicon Raspberry Pi clone. It packs a dual-core AMD chip and Radeon graphics, but swaps the hard drive for a speedy SSD.

Lounge lizard

Build quality is exquisite, but one of the best things about the Zbox – aside from the price – is that it’s supplied with a VESA mount. That means you can bolt it on to the back of a monitor or TV and pretty much forget about it, turning any given screen into an all-in-one PC.

OS? What OS?

It’s not faultless, though: you’ll need to supply your own OS, and with only 64GB to fill, you’ll likely need an external hard drive too; it has only four USB ports, and one of those will have to be surrendered to the bundled Wi-Fi dongle; and while hiding it away helps keep the noise down, its fan is still a distraction in quiet movie scenes. But for all that, it’s still a remarkably capable PC in a genuinely tiny shell at an amazingly cheap prize. Buy one, stick it behind your TV, and you’ll have the ultimate lounge PC.
