Your favourite YouTube clip of a newsreader getting flattened by a Zorb ball could now be available in 1080p glory thanks to new Full HD support.

The move ties in with the recent wave of 1080p-capable pocket cams, and clips already uploaded at that resolution will apparently be re-encoded, too.

Unlike rival sites like Vimeo, YouTube will be keeping its 10-minute limit on video length, but the 2GB size restriction may have to be boosted to allow for lengthy, high-resolution masterpieces.

The update is a real bonus if you like watching YouTube on your flatscreen telly via something like Apple TV, but maybe less beneficial for your freelance housemate’s concentration levels. Now, where’s the clip of that stealthy ninja cat…
