Volkswagen has recently revealed its temporary autopilot technology, which can allow a car to drive semi-automatically at speeds up to 80mph. The nifty tech makes use of adaptive cruise control and lane-keeping assist, meaning that the car can automatically maintain a safe distance from the driver in front at a safe speed, as well as staying within lane markers.
If you fancy having a nap or playing on your 3DS behind the wheel, however, think again – we’ve been warned that constant monitoring is required. Although Google’s wheels are far more advanced in that no babysitting is needed, VW’s technology is far closer to being production-ready, as it utilises existing technology. A road-ready version in the next few years? Yes, please.
