Virgin Media to roll out Wi-Fi at Tube stations

Branson and co win contract to bring Wi-Fi to 120 London Underground stations by the end of 2012

Virgin Media has announced that it will be bringing Wi-Fi to 80 London Underground stations before the summer, and those little 2012 Olympics events, with that number rising to 120 before the end of the year.

If the news that your Words With Friends games won’t be interrupted while waiting for the Tube isn’t pleasing enough, Virgin will offer the Wi-Fi access for free for a limited period (starting in July).

It doesn’t say exactly how limited this freebie period is, but when it ends you’ll have to pay for full access, with Virgin Media and Mobile customers likely to get the sweetest deals. There’ll still be limited free access for all, making up to date travel information available.
