The Wii U is tanking, and there&rsquo;s little announced on the horizon that&rsquo;s both exclusive and intriguing&mdash;basically <em>Super Smash Bros</em>. for Wii U, <em>Bayonetta 2</em>, and the company&rsquo;s <a href="http://www.stuff.tv/amazon/fully-charged-tech-giants-advocate-net-neutrality-nintendo-makes-its-own-skylanders-and-izitr">NFC Figurine system</a>.</p> <p>So if Nintendo hopes to have a shot at salvaging the console, it needs a hearty showing that spans both innovative new experiences and fan-favorite returns. Here it is: Assassin&rsquo;s Creed Unity, the first entry in the open-world action series to release solely for new-gen consoles and PC, is being developed by 10 different studios at Ubisoft. Its Montreal home base is leading the charge, as it has for all core series entries, but it&rsquo;s being flanked this time by the Annecy, Bucharest, Chengdu, Kiev, Montpellier, Quebec, Shanghai, Singapore, and Toronto studios.</p> <p>Last year&rsquo;s Assassin&rsquo;s Creed IV: Black Flag featured work from nine studios, and it&rsquo;s how Ubisoft has been able to continue pumping out an open-world game with a completely new setting each and every fall. And that philosophy is spreading to the publisher&rsquo;s other games, as we found out yesterday that Far Cry 4 will <a href="http://www.stuff.tv/ubisoft/far-cry-4-scales-himalayas-and-drops-november/news">feature the work</a> of five different studios. But when these games ultimately sell several million copies apiece, we imagine the mass headcount and logistical headaches will all be worth it.</p> <p>[Source: <a href="http://www.polygon.com/2014/5/15/5721832/assassins-creed-unity-developers-10-ubisoft-studios">Polygon</a>]</p> <p><strong>READ MORE: <a href="http://www.stuff.tv/detaiuls-next-assassins-creed-game-have-leaked-and-its-called-unity/news">Details of the next Assassin&#39;s Creed game have leaked, and it&#39;s called Unity</a></strong></p> </div> </div> </div> <div class="field field-type-filefield field-field-image"> <div class="field-label">Image #1:&nbsp;</div> <div class="field-items"> <div class="field-item odd"> <img class="imagefield imagefield-field_image" width="1200" height="900" title="Assassin&#039;s Creed Unity" alt="Assassin&#039;s Creed Unity" src="http://images.cdn.stuff.tv/sites/stuff.tv/files/assassinscreedunity.jpg?1400237625" /> </div> </div> </div> <div class="field field-type-number-integer field-field-make-full-width"> <div class="field-label">Make full width:&nbsp;</div> <div class="field-items"> <div class="field-item odd"> Do not make full width </div> </div> </div> </fieldset> </fieldset> http://www.stuff.tv/sony/fully-charged-sony-s-4k-alpha-7s-camera-out-july-npower-s-nest-thermostat-initiative-and-3d-pri#comments 3D Printing Cameras Console games Sony Ubisoft Fri, 16 May 2014 06:30:00 +0000 Andrew Hayward 1437310 at http://www.stuff.tv Far Cry 4 scales the Himalayas and drops this November http://www.stuff.tv/ubisoft/far-cry-4-scales-himalayas-and-drops-november/news <div class="field field-type-text field-field-standfirst"> <div class="field-items"> <div class="field-item odd"> Latest open-world shooter entry shakes up the locale, but hopefully keeps the mayhem </div> </div> </div> <div class="field field-type-filefield field-field-main-image"> <div class="field-items"> <div class="field-item odd"> <img class="imagefield imagefield-field_main_image" width="1200" height="900" title="Far Cry 4" alt="Far Cry 4" src="http://images.cdn.stuff.tv/sites/stuff.tv/files/images/news/farcry4.jpg?1400307600" /> </div> </div> </div> <p>Ubisoft today announced Far Cry 4, the latest in its open-world first-person shooter series, and it&rsquo;ll shift the action away from the tropical jungle and head towards some fresh terrain for the franchise.</p> <p>Set to launch on PlayStation 4, Xbox One, PC, Xbox 360, and PlayStation 3 on 20 November, Far Cry 4 takes place in Kyrat, a region in the Himalayas under the grip of a self-appointed ruler&mdash;who&rsquo;s likely more than a bit bonkers, based on the box art and the antagonist of the last game.</p> <div class="field field-type-userreference field-field-byline"> <div class="field-label">Byline:&nbsp;</div> <div class="field-items"> <div class="field-item odd"> <a href="/users/andrew-hayward" title="View user profile.">Andrew Hayward</a> </div> </div> </div> <fieldset class="content-multigroup-group-sections"><legend>News Section</legend><fieldset class="content-multigroup-wrapper content-multigroup-0"><div class="field field-type-number-integer field-field-section-paginate"> <div class="field-label">Paginate on this section:&nbsp;</div> <div class="field-items"> <div class="field-item odd"> Don't paginate </div> </div> </div> <div class="field field-type-hcmvideofield-video field-field-brightcove-video"> <div class="field-label">Video ID/URL:&nbsp;</div> <div class="field-items"> <div class="field-item odd"> <div class="messages warning">This video is not currently supported.</div> </div> </div> </div> <div class="field field-type-number-integer field-field-make-full-width"> <div class="field-label">Make full width:&nbsp;</div> <div class="field-items"> <div class="field-item odd"> Do not make full width </div> </div> </div> </fieldset> </fieldset> <p><a href="http://www.stuff.tv/ubisoft/far-cry-4-scales-himalayas-and-drops-november/news" target="_blank">read more</a></p> http://www.stuff.tv/ubisoft/far-cry-4-scales-himalayas-and-drops-november/news#comments Console games Ubisoft Thu, 15 May 2014 19:15:20 +0000 Andrew Hayward 1437280 at http://www.stuff.tv Child of Light http://www.stuff.tv/child-light/child-light/review <div class="field field-type-text field-field-standfirst"> <div class="field-items"> <div class="field-item odd"> What happens when the minds behind Far Cry 3 make a JRPG? You’re asked to play what you’ve just seen demonstrated in the video, using the same scrolling display as when you’re playing songs, and if you find it difficult it’ll slow the approaching notes right down until you’ve got the hang of it, then speed back up. It’s just what a real music teacher would do, minus the stern letter to your parents when you miss a lesson even though you had a bad leg, actually. &nbsp;</p> <p>Perhaps the biggest new feature is Session Mode, in which you can pick the instruments for a virtual band that creates a backing track for your riffs. For guitarists who like to noodle along to a backing track, this is a revelation - not only does your virtual band keep plugging away in key while you go on your odyssey through the pentatonic scale, it changes tempo to fit what you’re playing. We only gave it about 10 minutes, at which point the demo guy began to look a bit queasy from our endless prog-blues squeedling, but this feature alone could fill a whole Sunday afternoon. Assuming you have very tolerant neighbours.</p> </div> </div> </div> <div class="field field-type-hcmvideofield-video field-field-brightcove-video"> <div class="field-label">Video ID/URL:&nbsp;</div> <div class="field-items"> <div class="field-item odd"> <div class="video-wrapper youtube-player-wrapper"> <iframe width="640" height="385" src="http://www.youtube.com/embed/jY7F9iN9ySM" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe> </div> </div> </div> </div> <div class="field field-type-filefield field-field-image"> <div class="field-label">Image #1:&nbsp;</div> <div class="field-items"> <div class="field-item odd"> <img class="imagefield imagefield-field_image" width="1200" height="900" title="Rocksmith 2014" alt="Rocksmith 2014" src="http://images.cdn.stuff.tv/sites/stuff.tv/files/rocksmith-2014-01.jpg?1379954837" /> </div> </div> </div> <div class="field field-type-number-integer field-field-make-full-width"> <div class="field-label">Make full width:&nbsp;</div> <div class="field-items"> <div class="field-item odd"> Do not make full width </div> </div> </div> </fieldset> <fieldset class="content-multigroup-wrapper content-multigroup-2"><div class="field field-type-number-integer field-field-section-paginate"> <div class="field-label">Paginate on this section:&nbsp;</div> <div class="field-items"> <div class="field-item odd"> Don't paginate </div> </div> </div> <div class="field field-type-text field-field-title"> <div class="field-label">Title:&nbsp;</div> <div class="field-items"> <div class="field-item odd"> Rock And Roll All Nite </div> </div> </div> <div class="field field-type-text field-field-body"> <div class="field-label">Body:&nbsp;</div> <div class="field-items"> <div class="field-item odd"> <p>You can now loop a riff in any song, which is a nice addition that lets you get to grips with difficult parts before running all the way through a track. The arcade-style mini-games have been expanded, too, and again they’re brilliant teaching aids. You can shoot small digital ducks with fast fretting, explode glam zombies with power chords, and hop around platform games using slides and bends without really noticing that you’re putting your hands through intensive training. The sort of intensive training you would have forgotten to do in the old days, only to be upbraided in your exercise book in mouth-damp smudgepencil.</p> <p>If you have a decent surround sound setup, Rocksmith 2014 will turn your TV into a powerful amp and a huge multi-effects unit.
