Sept 2012: the most exciting month in gadgets. Ever. The evidence: it witnessed the birth of the iPhone 5, a glistening slab of super-lightweight gorgeousness. A week earlier it saw in Amazon’s Kindle Fire HD, surely the most compelling retort to the iPad yet. On the subject of kindling, September saw Nokia set alight again (in a good way) as the Finns showed off the Lumia 920, one of the most innovative mobiles we’ve ever seen.

One other life-changing launch falls on that day – James Bond is back. And what a Bond he is. Daniel Craig’s visceral reimagining of the world’s most promiscuous spy was the perfect antidote to the ludicrous Die Another Day. But beyond a tidal-wave-surfing Brosnan, the franchise lost something else when Bond switched faces – it lost the tech. It lost Q. Thankfully, Skyfall has packed the gadgets (and Q) right back in.

There’s yet more spying this month from the thingternet – the web of interconnected sensors that will monitor every aspect of your life, just make it easier. After all – who needs privacy? Enjoy.
