Welcome to a special issue of Stuff. It’s special because 
it contains the Cool List, and the Cool List isn’t like other awards. It’s not just a parade of the best-performing gadgets, nor a roster of the year’s most-papped, and no money or bodily fluids were exchanged in its creation.

It’s an outpouring of enthusiasm straight from Stuff’s distended brain, as if we’ve crammed all of the most beautifully designed, clever, brilliant and impressive things we’ve seen into our cranium before having it wrenched open by Dr. Frasier Crane and the resulting deluge recorded on these very pages (p54). And while it may be impossible to anatomise exactly why the 17 entries are the coolest things in the world today, we’re certain that, if you let some of them into your life, you’ll be as blissfully happy as we are.

But beware. Following abnormal levels of activity this spring, the 
sun gods are planning another assault on our already scorched island. Equip yourself with a pair of ray shields (sunglasses, p105), grab a gun (water pistols, 1, p28) and a mission recorder (camera special, 2, p91) and stage your counter-attack (in the park, perhaps). Take an Asus Eee Pad Transformer (3, p44) along, because it’s brilliant. Do try not to splash it.
