At 6.4mm thin, the svelte Xperia Z2 Tablet makes both the 7.9mm Galaxy Note 10.1 (2014) and even the 7.5mm iPad Air look like chunky monkeys. Argue all you want about volume versus dimensions; the Xperia Z2 Tablet also wins the weightwatchers war at just 439g while the 478g iPad Air and 547g Galaxy Note 10.1 (2014) prove to be heavyweights - in a bad way.</p> <p>All three tablets are gorgeous in their own right, with their slimmed down bezels, clean lines, and glass-slabbed fronts. But close-up, the differences between them immediately become apparent, and what looks good from afar might not always translate to the best experience in hand. The Galaxy Note 10.1 (2014) immediately loses favour with its plastic and faux-leather clothing combination. Surprisingly, the Note&#39;s plastic build does nothing for its weight, even when compared to the iPad and the Xperia&#39;s metal-and-glass builds.</p> <p><strong>READ MORE:&nbsp;<a href="http://www.stuff.tv/sg/apple/apple-ipad-5/review" target="_blank">Apple iPad Air review</a></strong></p> <p>The iPad Air looks gorgeous, with its premium looks and smooth curves. The Note, meanwhile, draws on the Galaxy Note 3&#39;s pleather-and-plastic design, complete with fake stitching on the back.</p> <p>Of the two, the iPad Air&#39;s the standout in terms of design; it&#39;s a mere 7.5mm thin, with no give in it. And it&#39;s light, too &ndash; 469g or 478g, depending on whether you opt for the Wi-Fi only or cellular version. Beware, though: all that Space Grey aluminium will scratch easily.</p> <p>The Note&#39;s well put-together &ndash; there&#39;s little to no flex in it, and the manufacturing is seamless. However, its symphony of plastic and faux-leather just looks plain tacky on a device this size &ndash; and the pleather doesn&#39;t have the grippy, soft-touch feel of the Galaxy Note 3&#39;s similar back to recommend it.</p> <p>That metal-effect plastic edging is pretty unimpressive next to the iPad&#39;s metal-and glass build, too &ndash; and it doesn&#39;t yield a weight saving, with the Note coming in at around 540g depending on which version you pick up. That said, the Note feels solid in the hand, and has a pleasing heft to it. But in terms of looks, there&#39;s no contest &ndash; the iPad Air walks away with it.</p> <p><em>Winner</em>: <strong>iPad Air</strong></p> </div> </div> </div> <div class="field field-type-hcmvideofield-video field-field-brightcove-video"> <div class="field-label">Video ID/URL:&nbsp;</div> <div class="field-items"> <div class="field-item odd"> <div class="messages warning">This video is not currently supported.</div> </div> </div> </div> <div class="field field-type-filefield field-field-image"> <div class="field-label">Image #1:&nbsp;</div> <div class="field-items"> <div class="field-item odd"> <img class="imagefield imagefield-field_image" width="1200" height="900" title="Apple iPad Air" alt="Apple iPad Air" src="http://images.cdn.stuff.tv/sites/stuff.tv/files/Apple-iPad-Air-review-build-camera_2.png?1391486097" /> </div> </div> </div> <div class="field field-type-filefield field-field-image-2"> <div class="field-label">Image #2:&nbsp;</div> <div class="field-items"> <div class="field-item odd"> <img class="imagefield imagefield-field_image_2" width="1200" height="900" title="Samsung Galaxy Note 10.1" alt="Samsung Galaxy Note 10.1" src="http://images.cdn.stuff.tv/sites/stuff.tv/files/samsung-galaxy-note-10-1-2014-review-extras.JPG?1391486097" /> </div> </div> </div> <div class="field field-type-filefield field-field-image-3"> <div class="field-label">Image #3:&nbsp;</div> <div class="field-items"> <div class="field-item odd"> <img class="imagefield imagefield-field_image_3" width="1200" height="900" title="Samsung Galaxy Note 10.1" alt="Samsung Galaxy Note 10.1" src="http://images.cdn.stuff.tv/sites/stuff.tv/files/samsung-galaxy-note-10-1-review-build-1_0.JPG?1391486097" /> </div> </div> </div> <div class="field field-type-filefield field-field-image-4"> <div class="field-label">Image #4:&nbsp;</div> <div class="field-items"> <div class="field-item odd"> <img class="imagefield imagefield-field_image_4" width="1200" height="900" title="Apple iPad Air" alt="Apple iPad Air" src="http://images.cdn.stuff.tv/sites/stuff.tv/files/Apple-iPad-Air-review-iBooks_2.png?1391486097" /> </div> </div> </div> <div class="field field-type-number-integer field-field-make-full-width"> <div class="field-label">Make full width:&nbsp;</div> <div class="field-items"> <div class="field-item odd"> Do not make full width </div> </div> </div> </fieldset> <fieldset class="content-multigroup-wrapper content-multigroup-1"><div class="field field-type-number-integer field-field-section-paginate"> <div class="field-label">Paginate on this section:&nbsp;</div> <div class="field-items"> <div class="field-item odd"> Don't paginate </div> </div> </div> <div class="field field-type-text field-field-title"> <div class="field-label">Title:&nbsp;</div> <div class="field-items"> <div class="field-item odd"> Screen </div> </div> </div> <div class="field field-type-text field-field-body"> <div class="field-label">Body:&nbsp;</div> <div class="field-items"> <div class="field-item odd"> <p>The Note 10.1&#39;s screen is glorious &ndash; &quot;one of the best we&#39;ve ever seen on a 10in tablet,&quot; as Stuff&#39;s own Sophie Charara puts it. And that power is backed up by the benchmarks, too, with the Note managing a respectable score of 2871 on Geekbench 3 in our test.</p> <p>That&#39;s a step ahead of the iPad Air&#39;s Geekbench score of 2696 &ndash; and it&#39;s not surprising, since the iPad&#39;s proprietary dual-core 1.4GHz A7 processor and 1GB RAM don&#39;t quite measure up to the Note&#39;s internals. That said, Apple&#39;s 64-bit processor is handily future-proofed (<a href="http://www.stuff.tv/apple/iphone-5s-and-samsung-galaxy-s5-why-you-should-be-pumped-about-64-bit-smartphones/feature" target="_blank">find out what the fuss is all about here</a>), and app developers are slowly starting to optimise their wares for the extra headroom.</p> <p>Of course, it&#39;s what you do with those specs that count, and the iPad Air is delightfully smooth. With every single app we&#39;d opened running in the background, we still got &quot;zero stutter when dropping five-minute long HD clips into the iMovie timeline, resizing and rearranging, playing back the preview and adding music.&quot;</p> <p>The Note, meanwhile, &quot;chews through demanding games like a croc through soft fudge,&quot; but could still do with some optimisation in terms of software; there&#39;s a noticeable pause between tapping an app and it opening, and &quot;as we set a tonne of Android apps downloading to the tab at once, the shiny widgets on the main homescreen flickered and entered a reload loop meltdown just short of a full crash.&quot;</p> <p>Still, the grunt&#39;s there, and on raw specs, we have to give the trophy to Samsung for this round.</p> <p><em>Winner</em>: <strong>Samsung</strong></p> <p><strong>READ MORE:&nbsp;<a href="http://www.stuff.tv/25-fantastic-free-android-games/feature" target="_blank">25 fantastic free Android games</a></strong></p> </div> </div> </div> <div class="field field-type-filefield field-field-image"> <div class="field-label">Image #1:&nbsp;</div> <div class="field-items"> <div class="field-item odd"> <img class="imagefield imagefield-field_image" width="1200" height="900" title="Apple iPad Air" alt="Apple iPad Air" src="http://images.cdn.stuff.tv/sites/stuff.tv/files/Apple-iPad-Air-review-iMovie_2.png?1391486097" /> </div> </div> </div> <div class="field field-type-filefield field-field-image-2"> <div class="field-label">Image #2:&nbsp;</div> <div class="field-items"> <div class="field-item odd"> <img class="imagefield imagefield-field_image_2" width="1200" height="900" title="Samsung Galaxy Note 10.1 (2014)" alt="Samsung Galaxy Note 10.1 (2014)" src="http://images.cdn.stuff.tv/sites/stuff.tv/files/samsung-galaxy-note-10-1-review-s-pen-options_0.JPG?1391486097" /> </div> </div> </div> <div class="field field-type-text field-field-box-out-title"> <div class="field-label">Box Out Title:&nbsp;</div> <div class="field-items"> <div class="field-item odd"> Connectivity </div> </div> </div> <div class="field field-type-text field-field-box-out-body-text"> <div class="field-label">Box Out Body Text:&nbsp;</div> <div class="field-items"> <div class="field-item odd"> <p>In terms of ports, there&#39;s surprising parity between the two tablets; the The Note packs in microUSB 2.0 and microSD up to 64GB, plus an IR blaster. It&#39;s not new, but our review points out that it &quot;works much better this time around&quot; thanks to the new Note&#39;s beefed-up silicon.</p> <p>That Note name means that you also get Samsung&#39;s S Pen stylus, which comes with plenty of new tricks. Air Command menus &quot;can be a bit confusing at first, but stick with the S Pen and the rewards are vast&quot; &ndash; you can scribble notes, circle details and add them to contacts, or pull up an address in Google Maps. Yes, Android fans will doubtless carp that features like the Control Centre appear suspiciously familiar, but Apple&#39;s done a great job of presenting those features. The UI design is slick and stripped-back, and the controls are intuitive &ndash; although Apple&#39;s continuing refusal to add homescreen widgets and customisation options remains a point of contention.</p> <p>Apple&#39;s not-so-secret weapons are, of course, iTunes and the App Store &ndash; &quot;the biggest and best-curated digital shops available, despite fierce competition from Google Play.&quot; 10in Android tablets still lag behind in terms of essential apps, though the number is gradually increasing. There are no official Twitter or Facebook apps available for 10in &#39;droids, for instance, and while the BBC iPlayer has finally made its way onto larger Android tablets, the Note 10.1 doesn&#39;t yet support programme downloads.</p> <p>Which operating system you pick largely comes down to your own preferences and priorities. With the Note, you get Android&#39;s more open platform (complete with a proper file and folder structure), plus more options for customisation and homescreen widgets. The iPad Air gets you Apple&#39;s cleaner, simpler design and the vast riches of its App Store. Both have their advantages and disadvantages; we&#39;ll call it a draw.</p> <p><em>Winner</em>: <strong>Draw</strong></p> <p><strong>READ MORE:&nbsp;</strong><strong><a href="http://www.stuff.tv/apple/ultimate-setup-apple-ipad-air/feature" target="_blank">Ultimate setup: Apple iPad Air</a></strong></p> </div> </div> </div> <div class="field field-type-filefield field-field-image"> <div class="field-label">Image #1:&nbsp;</div> <div class="field-items"> <div class="field-item odd"> <img class="imagefield imagefield-field_image" width="1200" height="900" title="Apple iPad Air" alt="Apple iPad Air" src="http://images.cdn.stuff.tv/sites/stuff.tv/files/Apple-iPad-Air-review-IOS-7-control-center_5.png?1391486097" /> </div> </div> </div> <div class="field field-type-number-integer field-field-make-full-width"> <div class="field-label">Make full width:&nbsp;</div> <div class="field-items"> <div class="field-item odd"> Do not make full width </div> </div> </div> </fieldset> <fieldset class="content-multigroup-wrapper content-multigroup-5"><div class="field field-type-number-integer field-field-section-paginate"> <div class="field-label">Paginate on this section:&nbsp;</div> <div class="field-items"> <div class="field-item odd"> Don't paginate </div> </div> </div> <div class="field field-type-text field-field-title"> <div class="field-label">Title:&nbsp;</div> <div class="field-items"> <div class="field-item odd"> Verdict </div> </div> </div> <div class="field field-type-text field-field-body"> <div class="field-label">Body:&nbsp;</div> <div class="field-items"> <div class="field-item odd"> <p>Samsung and Apple have produced a pair of top-quality tablets in the Note 10.1 and the iPad Air. They&#39;re directly competing on price, with both slates starting at &pound;400 for a Wi-Fi only, 16GB version. So which comes out on top?</p> <p>The iPad Air offers gorgeous design, an impressive screen and a shedload of apps thanks to Apple&#39;s App Store. The Note 10.1 delivers plenty of grunt with its 3GB RAM, 1.9GHz processor and 299ppi screen &ndash; and its S Pen stylus is genuinely useful once you&#39;ve got the hang of it. The beamtastic, blink-inducing 10.1in screen can&rsquo;t be faulted on brightness either. This is a great choice for loading up your tab with hi-res DSLR shots as it picks up slightly more detail than the iPad.</p> <p>For everything else, make sure to get to know the &lsquo;screen modes&rsquo; section of the settings menu. Movie mode is best for movies (who would&rsquo;ve thought?) with a similarly natural colour palette to iDevices - but in this mode webpages look like fancy, cream-coloured letters next to the stock, pure white printing paper of the iPad. Switch back to Standard mode for browsing and contrast improves with bold black text popping as it should.</p> <p>The iPad just about has the edge when playing back 1080p footage, both in terms of smoothness of playback and sharpness of picture. The fact that you don&#39;t need to change screen mode to get the most of it is a big bonus, too,&nbsp;but overall the Note 10.1 still has a cracker of a screen - one of the best we&rsquo;ve ever seen on a 10in tablet.</p> </div> </div> </div> <div class="field field-type-hcmvideofield-video field-field-brightcove-video"> <div class="field-label">Video ID/URL:&nbsp;</div> <div class="field-items"> <div class="field-item odd"> <div class="video-wrapper brightcove-player-wrapper"> <script language="JavaScript" type="text/javascript" src="http://admin.brightcove.com/js/BrightcoveExperiences.js"></script> <script src="http://admin.brightcove.com/js/APIModules_all.js"></script> <div class="brightcove-player"> <object id="myExperience-3255117251001" class="BrightcoveExperience"> <param name="bgcolor" value="#000000" /> <param name="playerID" value="" /> <param name="playerKey" value="AQ~~,AAAAEgPmGlk~,Fzd-TvXcznw-P3piHaryQBMeIzWITldz" /> <param name="isVid" value="true" /> <param name="isUI" value="true" /> <param name="dynamicStreaming" value="true" /> <param name="@videoPlayer" value="3255117251001" /> <param name="autoStart" value="" /> <param name="htmlFallback" value="true" /> <param name="includeAPI" value="true" /> <param name="templateLoadHandler" value="brightcoveTemplateLoaded" /> <param name="width" value="640px" /> <param name="height" value="360px" /> </object> <!-- This script tag will cause the Brightcove Players defined above it to be created as soon as the line is read by the browser. And saving hand-scrawled numbers to contacts saves time via Action Memo&rsquo;s nifty menu of places to send your scribbles. It&rsquo;s also mighty impressive that handwritten notes are included in the Note 10.1&rsquo;s universal search.</p> <p>The S Note app has a clean new interface, too, and although 10in is a little on the large side for a meeting companion, resting the Note 10.1 on a knee and jotting away with the stylus works well. Your iPad can&rsquo;t do that. It works much better this time around &nbsp;- the old Note 10.1 was simply too hiccupy to forgive. It&rsquo;s still restricted to mostly Samsung and Google apps but the likes of email, maps and the browser are what you&rsquo;re most likely to want to run side-by-side anyway.</p> <p>Sadly, it still feels somewhat cluttered thanks to too much duplication - Samsung Hub and Samsung Apps widgets on top of the Play Store, Play Music and other Google options. There are doubled-up apps for email and photos, too. We&rsquo;d recommend that tablet newbies stick to Google&rsquo;s services where possible. And on <a href="https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.antutu.ABenchMark&amp;hl=en_GB" target="_blank">AnTuTu</a> it trails the Note 3&rsquo;s score of 34652 with a still impressive 31974, but after performing well, the Note 10.1 promptly crashed as we closed the benchmarking app - an experience that paints a picture of software hobbling hardware.</p> <p>The Note 10.1 experience can be fluid. Hiccups are far from constant and intensive tasks are actually the least of the tab&rsquo;s worries. It chews through demanding games like a croc through soft fudge. But there&rsquo;s room for improvement and we hope software updates will provide this.</p> </div> </div> </div> <div class="field field-type-number-integer field-field-make-full-width"> <div class="field-label">Make full width:&nbsp;</div> <div class="field-items"> <div class="field-item odd"> Do not make full width </div> </div> </div> </fieldset> <fieldset class="content-multigroup-wrapper content-multigroup-6"><div class="field field-type-number-integer field-field-section-paginate"> <div class="field-label">Paginate on this section:&nbsp;</div> <div class="field-items"> <div class="field-item odd"> Don't paginate </div> </div> </div> <div class="field field-type-text field-field-title"> <div class="field-label">Title:&nbsp;</div> <div class="field-items"> <div class="field-item odd"> Hell For Fake Leather </div> </div> </div> <div class="field field-type-text field-field-body"> <div class="field-label">Body:&nbsp;</div> <div class="field-items"> <div class="field-item odd"> <p>We said the Samsung competes with the iPad on brains, not beauty. And no surprises here - this Samsung&rsquo;s not a patch on a Cupertino build. It&rsquo;s not quite as solid as an iPad, in that it creaks a little in the middle, and the <a href="http://www.stuff.tv/apple/apple-ipad-5/review" target="_blank">iPad Air</a> is both skinnier and lighter to boot.</p> <p>That said, the bezels help to make the Note 10.1 2014 look less odd than most 16:9 tablets in portrait mode. Combined with the new UI, this makes it feel more like reading a magazine - it&rsquo;s a lovely size and shape for lazily swiping through web stories.</p> <p><strong><a href="http://www.stuff.tv/android/samsung-galaxy-note-101-2014/gallery?viewid=110365">CHECK OUT OUR FULL SAMSUNG GALAXY NOTE 10.1 (2014) GALLERY HERE</a></strong></p> <p>From the front the Note 10.1 2014 looks like any other Samsung tablet - glossy, white and plastic. Round the back, there&rsquo;s a &lsquo;treat&rsquo; in the form of the fake leather and stitching rear panel, most recently found on the <a href="http://www.stuff.tv/galaxy-note-3/samsung-galaxy-note-3/review" target="_blank">Note 3</a>. In white it looks tacky, in black more forgiveable, but it adds nothing to make the Note 10.1 feel more like a &pound;400 device. When resting the tablet on your lap or knee it does feel more like a cover or case-clad tablet so it&rsquo;s slightly more comfortable.</p> <p>On each side of the tablet you&rsquo;ll find lenses, and they&rsquo;re actually fairly capable by tablet standards. The 8MP rear camera, with AF and an LED flash, takes detailed, well-exposed shots when needed (hopefully not often), while the 2MP front-facer is perfectly suitable for clear Skype chats.</p> </div> </div> </div> <div class="field field-type-filefield field-field-image"> <div class="field-label">Image #1:&nbsp;</div> <div class="field-items"> <div class="field-item odd"> <img class="imagefield imagefield-field_image" width="1200" height="900" title="Samsung Galaxy Note 10.1 (2014) review" alt="Samsung Galaxy Note 10.1 (2014) review" src="http://images.cdn.stuff.tv/sites/stuff.tv/files/samsung-galaxy-note-10-1-review-build-1.JPG?1394941964" /> </div> </div> </div> <div class="field field-type-number-integer field-field-make-full-width"> <div class="field-label">Make full width:&nbsp;</div> <div class="field-items"> <div class="field-item odd"> Do not make full width </div> </div> </div> </fieldset> <fieldset class="content-multigroup-wrapper content-multigroup-7"><div class="field field-type-number-integer field-field-section-paginate"> <div class="field-label">Paginate on this section:&nbsp;</div> <div class="field-items"> <div class="field-item odd"> Don't paginate </div> </div> </div> <div class="field field-type-text field-field-title"> <div class="field-label">Title:&nbsp;</div> <div class="field-items"> <div class="field-item odd"> Verdict </div> </div> </div> <div class="field field-type-text field-field-body"> <div class="field-label">Body:&nbsp;</div> <div class="field-items"> <div class="field-item odd"> <p>The Note 10.1 2014 can do everything you want a tablet to do - plus ten other impossible things you&rsquo;re not sure you needed it to.</p> <p>More clever than an iPad, with a better screen than nearly every other Android tablet and with microSD expandability, this is a lean, mean full-sized tablet from Samsung. S Pen notation, a Flipboard invasion, Multi Window - all big wins that will be copied by many a rival in the months ahead.</p> <p>And in six months time, this could be a five-star tab. Improvements to the day-to-day performance are vital, and those could be implemented through firmware. A stampede of creative tablet apps onto Google Play would help a great deal, too.</p> <p>Of course, it could be too late by then, as the inexorable tablet tide continues to wash dreamy Droid devices onto our shores with blink-and-you&rsquo;ll-miss-it regularity, but the potential is there. In fact, we&rsquo;d say this is Samsung&rsquo;s best tablet yet. It&#39;s just a shame that that&#39;s still not quite good enough to dethrone the mighty iPad.</p> <p><strong>READ MORE: <a href="http://www.stuff.tv/tablets/top-ten" target="_blank">The 10 Best Tablets in the World right now</a></strong></p> </div> </div> </div> <div class="field field-type-filefield field-field-image"> <div class="field-label">Image #1:&nbsp;</div> <div class="field-items"> <div class="field-item odd"> <img class="imagefield imagefield-field_image" width="1200" height="900" title="Samsung Galaxy Note 10.1 (2014) review" alt="Samsung Galaxy Note 10.1 (2014) review" src="http://images.cdn.stuff.tv/sites/stuff.tv/files/samsung-galaxy-note-10-1r-review-verdict.JPG?1394941964" /> </div> </div> </div> <div class="field field-type-number-integer field-field-make-full-width"> <div class="field-label">Make full width:&nbsp;</div> <div class="field-items"> <div class="field-item odd"> Do not make full width </div> </div> </div> </fieldset> </fieldset> <fieldset class="content-multigroup-group-review-rating"><legend>Review Rating</legend><fieldset class="content-multigroup-wrapper content-multigroup-0"><div class="field field-type-content-taxonomy field-field-review-type"> <div class="field-label">Type:&nbsp;</div> <div class="field-items"> <div class="field-item odd"> power </div> </div> </div> <div class="field field-type-number-integer field-field-review-score"> <div class="field-label">Score:&nbsp;</div> <div class="field-items"> <div class="field-item odd"> 9 </div> </div> </div> </fieldset> <fieldset class="content-multigroup-wrapper content-multigroup-1"><div class="field field-type-content-taxonomy field-field-review-type"> <div class="field-label">Type:&nbsp;</div> <div class="field-items"> <div class="field-item odd"> screen </div> </div> </div> <div class="field field-type-number-integer field-field-review-score"> <div class="field-label">Score:&nbsp;</div> <div class="field-items"> <div class="field-item odd"> 9 </div> </div> </div> </fieldset> <fieldset class="content-multigroup-wrapper content-multigroup-2"><div class="field field-type-content-taxonomy field-field-review-type"> <div class="field-label">Type:&nbsp;</div> <div class="field-items"> <div class="field-item odd"> build </div> </div> </div> <div class="field field-type-number-integer field-field-review-score"> <div class="field-label">Score:&nbsp;</div> <div class="field-items"> <div class="field-item odd"> 8 </div> </div> </div> </fieldset> <fieldset class="content-multigroup-wrapper content-multigroup-3"><div class="field field-type-content-taxonomy field-field-review-type"> <div class="field-label">Type:&nbsp;</div> <div class="field-items"> <div class="field-item odd"> apps </div> </div> </div> <div class="field field-type-number-integer field-field-review-score"> <div class="field-label">Score:&nbsp;</div> <div class="field-items"> <div class="field-item odd"> 8 </div> </div> </div> </fieldset> </fieldset> <div class="field field-type-text field-field-verdict"> <div class="field-label">Verdict:&nbsp;</div> <div class="field-items"> <div class="field-item odd"> <p>A clever, feature-packed slate with a gorgeous screen, the Note 10.1 is Samsung&rsquo;s best ever tablet, but niggles keep it behind the iPad</p> </div> </div> </div> <div class="field field-type-number-integer field-field-preview"> <div class="field-label">Preview:&nbsp;</div> <div class="field-items"> <div class="field-item odd"> Disabled </div> </div> </div> <fieldset class="content-multigroup-group-carousel-item"><legend>Carousel Extras</legend><fieldset class="content-multigroup-wrapper content-multigroup-0"><div class="field field-type-text field-field-carousel-item-title"> <div class="field-label">Carousel item title:&nbsp;</div> <div class="field-items"> <div class="field-item odd"> Samsung Galaxy Note 10.1 (2014) review </div> </div> </div> <div class="field field-type-text field-field-carousel-item-standfirst"> <div class="field-label">Carousel item standfirst:&nbsp;</div> <div class="field-items"> <div class="field-item odd"> &quot;Samsung&#039;s best tablet yet&quot; – but can it take on the iPad and win? Much like the <a href="http://www.stuff.tv/android/samsung-galaxy-s4/review">Samsung Galaxy S4</a>, we could be in four a quad-core version, with the octo-core monster reserved for selected foreign markets.</p> <div class="field field-type-userreference field-field-byline"> <div class="field-label">Byline:&nbsp;</div> <div class="field-items"> <div class="field-item odd"> <a href="/users/sam-kieldsen" title="View user profile.">Sam Kieldsen</a> </div> </div> </div> <fieldset class="content-multigroup-group-sections"><legend>News Section</legend><fieldset class="content-multigroup-wrapper content-multigroup-0"><div class="field field-type-number-integer field-field-section-paginate"> <div class="field-label">Paginate on this section:&nbsp;</div> <div class="field-items"> <div class="field-item odd"> Don't paginate </div> </div> </div> <div class="field field-type-text field-field-title"> <div class="field-label">Title:&nbsp;</div> <div class="field-items"> <div class="field-item odd"> All the details </div> </div> </div> <div class="field field-type-text field-field-body"> <div class="field-label">Body:&nbsp;</div> <div class="field-items"> <div class="field-item odd"> <p>Interestingly, the 2014 Note 10.1 will be available in Wi-Fi only, 3G and 4G LTE editions, with the latter coming not with the eight-core Exynos chip but a quad-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 800. Whatever the case, it promises to be a beast when it comes to multi-tasking, an area where Galaxy Note models have always excelled.</p> <p>Aside from the powerful innards, there’s a 2560 x 1600 screen (that’s around 300ppi), updated S-Pen stylus, an 8MP rear camera with flash, 2MP front camera and a giant (and non-replaceable) 8,220mAh battery. 16GB, 32GB and 64GB editions will be available, all of which can be expanded a further 64GB thanks to the microSD slot. All run on Android 4.3 Jelly Bean and feature a love-it-or-hate-it stitched leather back panel.</p> <p>The new S-Pen comes laden with features like the Air Command wheel: hover the tip of the stylus over the screen and the wheel appears, giving you shortcuts to various S-Pen-compatible apps.</p> <p>We’ll bring you pricing and availability info when Samsung confirms it.</p> </div> </div> </div> <div class="field field-type-hcmvideofield-video field-field-brightcove-video"> <div class="field-label">Video ID/URL:&nbsp;</div> <div class="field-items"> <div class="field-item odd"> <div class="messages warning">This video is not currently supported.</div> </div> </div> </div> <div class="field field-type-filefield field-field-image"> <div class="field-label">Image #1:&nbsp;</div> <div class="field-items"> <div class="field-item odd"> <img class="imagefield imagefield-field_image" width="1200" height="900" title="Samsung Galaxy Note 10.1 2014" alt="Samsung Galaxy Note 10.1 2014" src="http://images.cdn.stuff.tv/sites/stuff.tv/files/samsung-galaxy-note-10-1-2.jpg?1383125101" /> </div> </div> </div> <div class="field field-type-filefield field-field-image-2"> <div class="field-label">Image #2:&nbsp;</div> <div class="field-items"> <div class="field-item odd"> <img class="imagefield imagefield-field_image_2" width="1200" height="900" title="Samsung Galaxy Note 10.1 2014" alt="Samsung Galaxy Note 10.1 2014" src="http://images.cdn.stuff.tv/sites/stuff.tv/files/samsung-galaxy-note-10-1-back-detail.jpg?1383125101" /> </div> </div> </div> <div class="field field-type-filefield field-field-image-3"> <div class="field-label">Image #3:&nbsp;</div> <div class="field-items"> <div class="field-item odd"> <img class="imagefield imagefield-field_image_3" width="1200" height="900" title="Samsung Galaxy Note 10.1 2014" alt="Samsung Galaxy Note 10.1 2014" src="http://images.cdn.stuff.tv/sites/stuff.tv/files/samsung-galaxy-note-10-1-3.jpg?1383125101" /> </div> </div> </div> <div class="field field-type-number-integer field-field-make-full-width"> <div class="field-label">Make full width:&nbsp;</div> <div class="field-items"> <div class="field-item odd"> Do not make full width </div> </div> </div> </fieldset> </fieldset> Galaxy Note 10.1 IFA 2013 Samsung Tablets Wed, 04 Sep 2013 19:46:59 +0000 Sam Kieldsen 1426206 at http://www.stuff.tv Samsung Galaxy Note 10.1 rapid review http://www.stuff.tv/video/reviews/samsung-galaxy-note-101-rapid-review <div class="field field-type-text field-field-standfirst"> <div class="field-items"> <div class="field-item odd"> The giant smartphone-come-mini tablet is back and it&#039;s bigger, beefier and darn sight better looking than its predecessor. So alongside pre-installed suggestions like Crayon physics (a simplified Amazing Alex with drawn lines), there’s also painting app Infinite Painter and the pattern making OmniSketch.&nbsp;</p> <p>With Wacom’s digitizer technology, the S Pen claims to give would-be artists greater precision than cheap tablet pens. There were a few hitches when drawing in the Infinite Painter Android app so we switched to the non-S Pen optimised SBMX. Blending colours and working our illustration muscles was impressive but wouldn’t replace anything more professional.&nbsp;</p> <p>Games wise there’s the simple enough MazeRacer which sees you using the precise S Pen to draw routes against the clock, as well as secure signature apps that could put an end to using your cranky scanner.
