If you ask it to play a movie, it can close your blinds, dim the lights, kill the music, and find the requested media on TV. The Hasselblad HV is basically a Sony A99 in fancier clothes &ndash; and at over twice the price.</p> <p>The HV&rsquo;s innards and controls are the same the A99&rsquo;s, but it has a more rugged outer shell made of titanium and high-grade aluminium, plus a removeable &ldquo;super resin&rdquo; case which enables it to operate in temperatures between -40 degrees and 80 degrees Celsius. Gold might play well in certain parts of the world, and Apple may have made a gold iPhone &ndash; but there&rsquo;s something decidedly tacky about the gilded edging and &ldquo;digital camouflage&rdquo; look of the Slates&rsquo; backsides. Here&rsquo;s hoping any UK editions that might appear in future come out a little more understated.</p> <p>The tablets will be launched in India initially, where they&rsquo;ll be available from February. There&rsquo;s no word on a UK launch for them yet, but HP (no doubt with a nod and a wink) says we can expect &ldquo;more&rdquo; in the coming months.</p> <p>[Via <a href="http://recode.net/2014/01/15/hp-to-re-enter-smartphone-market-with-phablets-in-india/">Re/code</a>]</p> <p><strong>READ MORE: <a href="http://www.stuff.tv/5-ways-look-good-using-phablet/feature">7 ways to look good using a phablet</a></strong></p> </div> </div> </div> <div class="field field-type-hcmvideofield-video field-field-brightcove-video"> <div class="field-label">Video ID/URL:&nbsp;</div> <div class="field-items"> <div class="field-item odd"> <div class="messages warning">This video is not currently supported.</div> </div> </div> </div> <div class="field field-type-filefield field-field-image"> <div class="field-label">Image #1:&nbsp;</div> <div class="field-items"> <div class="field-item odd"> <img class="imagefield imagefield-field_image" width="1200" height="900" title="HP Slate 6" alt="HP Slate 6" src="http://images.cdn.stuff.tv/sites/stuff.tv/files/hp-slate-2.jpg?1389957581" /> </div> </div> </div> <div class="field field-type-number-integer field-field-make-full-width"> <div class="field-label">Make full width:&nbsp;</div> <div class="field-items"> <div class="field-item odd"> Do not make full width </div> </div> </div> </fieldset> </fieldset> <fieldset class="content-multigroup-group-carousel-item"><legend>Carousel Extras</legend><fieldset class="content-multigroup-wrapper content-multigroup-0"><div class="field field-type-text field-field-carousel-item-title"> <div class="field-label">Carousel item title:&nbsp;</div> <div class="field-items"> <div class="field-item odd"> HP: A new mobile Slate </div> </div> </div> </fieldset> </fieldset> <p><a href="http://www.stuff.tv/android/hp-returns-mobile-market-slate-6-and-7-android-tablets/news" target="_blank">read more</a></p> Android HP Smartphones Tablets Wed, 15 Jan 2014 15:13:55 +0000 Sam Kieldsen 1431294 at http://www.stuff.tv Hands-on review: HP Chromebook 11 http://www.stuff.tv/chromebook-11/stuff-gets-hands-hp-chromebook-11/feature <div class="field field-type-text field-field-standfirst"> <div class="field-items"> <div class="field-item odd"> HP&#039;s dinky Chromebook is bright, bold and built with Google&#039;s help – and it shows </div> </div> </div> <div class="field field-type-filefield field-field-main-image"> <div class="field-items"> <div class="field-item odd"> <img class="imagefield imagefield-field_main_image" width="1200" height="900" title="HP Chromebook 11" alt="HP Chromebook 11" src="http://images.cdn.stuff.tv/sites/stuff.tv/files/images/news/DSC02046.JPG?1381480130" /> </div> </div> </div> <p>Resplendent in vintage MacBook-style white plastic, HP's Chromebook 11 is aiming for the affordable end of the notebook market, the natural stomping ground of Google's clever but limited cloud-based OS.</p> <p>Does that mean that this bright, bold, wallet-friendly laptop is a better option than the absurdly expensive <a href="http://www.stuff.tv/google-chromebook-pixel/review">Google Chromebook Pixel</a>? And while the HP Chromebook 11’s keyboard isn’t such a joy to type on as the Pixel’s, it’s still better than most, and considerably better than the clacky boards of most £300-£500 Windows laptops.&nbsp;</p> <p>If you’re looking for something small, light and affordable to bash out words on, this knocks socks off typing on an iPad or a Surface. And given that Google and co. pitch these things as homework machines, they’ve concentrated on getting the important bits right.&nbsp;</p> <p>The touchpad, on the other hand, is made from a matte plastic that’s too grippy when you compare it to the slidey glass panels that Apple uses. It turns on in a flash (pun intended, solid-state memory fans), and web browsing, YouTube videos and Chrome apps are delay-free.</p> <p>Obviously the flipside is that it won’t do powerful desktop processing tasks, but if your work is mainly word processing, spreadsheets, presentations and email, this’ll do the lot very quickly. Again, it doesn’t have quite the microsecond smoothness of the Pixel, but it’s lighter and less than a quarter of the price.&nbsp;</p> <p>In the couple of hours we’ve spent using it, the Exynos 5250 APU has only got slightly warm. We’d be interested to see how well it copes with Ubuntu (which can be added to Chromebooks fairly easily), which would add more powerful software to its repertoire. Although it would probably void the warranty, too.&nbsp;</p> <p>Perhaps the biggest point in the Chromebook 11's favour is that it charges via microUSB – a really superb piece of design that will make people’s lives easier and kill a few less arctic foxes.
