Spotify is bringing its music streaming service to TVs, and has plans for Spotify-branded mobile phones as well, it’s been reported.
The music streaming service of the moment has signed a deal with Swedish telecoms company Telia to produce the handsets, which will also see Spotify heading to televisions across Sweden as well.
Speaking to CNET, Spotify confirmed the deal but added that seeing the service on TVs is still “a way off”. It did however mention that it was looking to install Spotify on digital boxes at “some point in the future”.
Whether we see such things launch in the UK remains to be seen, but this it’s certainly a smart move from Spotify.
By taking its service further still away from the computer, it is stamping its mark as the innovative leaders of the growing music streaming market, and giving Napster’s price cut news a run for its money.
