Spotify is rolling out an update to its service this week, introducing an improved feature to help you find more music you might like.

Similar to the Genius function in iTunes, the new artist recommendation system has been something listeners have been after for a while, and has been built in-house from scratch to connect users to Spotify's entire catalogue of artists.

Before now recommendations were based on a much smaller pool of artists, using editorial tagging provided by AllMusic, who also provides the artist biographies.

However, it's all been fine-tuned now to get you access to more artists.

Spotify said in a statement: "For the first time, we’ll be using our own cross-referencing data collected over millions of user listening hours to power recommendations."

This will include a brand new "Related Artists" tab found on the artist overview page, where users will simply be able to click on artist icons and discover similar music, and hopefully find new favourites.

Erik Bernhardsson, Spotify developer and project leader, added: “Improving the way in which Spotify users can discover exciting new artists and music in general, such as by sharing playlists, will play a vital part in Spotify’s continuing evolution. This is only the beginning.”

Expect to see the new feature pop up in your Spotify account sometime this week, and once it does, be sure to let us know what you think to it below.
