Sky Go finally hits Android Marketplace

Got an Android smartie? Now you won't have to wait to watch Sky on your 'droid device...

Sky has taken its sweet time in releasing the Sky Go app to the Android-owning masses, but now the app that lets you take your Sky content with you on the move is finally landing on Android smartphones.

Rocking the same features as the iOS version, Sky Go's assortment of sports, news, entertainment channels and the recently added on-demand movies means the Android massive will get to carry around Sky entertainment in their pockets.

And anyone with a Sky account will be able to access Sky's on-demand assortment of films and TV shows over 3G or W-Fi.

Having initially got Android users' hopes up by teasing a possible release at the end of February, it's great to see Sky staying true to its word, following months and months of testing.

The Sky Go Android app is yours for the taking as of February 22 – according to TechRadar, who got the word straight from the horse's mouth.

But before you start fist-pumping the air, it's worth noting that Sky Go for Android will initially only be available for Samsung and HTC handsets – including the Desire, Desire S and Sensation from HTC and the Samsung Galaxy S and Galaxy S II.

The reason these particular handsets get the preferential treatment? Apparently, they're the "most popular." Being cool will get you everywhere in this industry.

Still no word on tablet compatibility, though.
