Want to treat someone, why not glomp! them instead?

This e-commerce gifting platform lets you treat someone digitally

Your friend’s just posted on their Facebook profile that they’re having a bad day and you want to cheer them up; or you learnt via LinkedIn that an acquaintance of yours just got promoted – what do you do?

Instead of commenting on their statuses and adding some emoji to accompany it, you can glomp! them. glo-what you ask? glomp! It’s a new e-commerce gifting platform in Singapore that lets you treat someone digitally with real physical products.

Setting up is very easy – you just need to manually register on glomp! (either using its app from the Apple App Store, Google Play Store or its website), or take a shortcut by connecting your Facebook or LinkedIn account to it and you’re good to go.

Purchase points using PayPal or your credit card for treats, pick the friend you want to glomp! and choose from a menu what you want to send them. Your friend will then receive a notification as a message and once they register on glomp! they can receive their voucher and redeem it.

glomp! your way to someone's heart

A few merchants, namely berrylite, Le Noir, Cedele, and Mogambo, have already gotten on board with more to follow suit soon. Although only food and beverage vendors are currently the only merchants to choose from, glomp!’s intending on inking deals with spas or even ticketing vendors in the near future.

glomp! founder, Zachary Lai, told Stuff that the service is not in competition to the social act of treating someone in person, but rather, is an extension of our social networking with them. “We text, we email, we social network, but as good as virtual conversations are, there is a limitation to how we interact online, especially in terms of showing sentiment,” he said.

It’s currently only available in Singapore and Hong Kong, but Lai mentioned that the company’s got plans to expand its rollout on a global scale in the coming months. The US and the UK are next on its list, and fret not, Malaysia’s definitely not too far off from getting it too.

For the time being, you can only send gifts across Singapore and Hong Kong, but the next step following glomp!’s global domination is to enable digital treating across more countries. Now that’s called a real treat.
