Singapore Cover Girl Dora: May the Fourth be with you!

Happy Star Wars day from #thestarwarschick

Yesterday was Star Wars day, just in case you haven't come across the deluge of Star Wars-related Facebook posts and interweb home-made tributes on YouTube.

Honoured by Star Wars fans across the galaxy, May the 4th is a celebration of the franchise's film series, books, video games, toys and culture. Basically everything and anything Star Wars is accepted and celebrated (yes, even Jar Jar Binks).

Singapore Cover Girl Dora: May the Fourth be with you!

I spent my May the Fourth geeking out hard at a fan-created/curated event with the 501st Legion Singapore Garrison, Fightsaber SG and a Stormtrooper helmet sculpture exhibit by Flabslab. I even took a selfie with a stormtrooper, which was by far the highlight of my day.

Inspired by the Force shown in so many fellow Star Wars fans from yesterday, I have drafted up my personal picks of the top Star Wars games ever made:

1. Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic

KOTOR is an action RPG set almost 4000 years before the Galactic Empire. Within this timeframe, Bioware built one of the most epic, engrossing and original stories that felt worthy of the Star Wars name. It also introduced one of the greatest EU characters, HK-47, a murder-droid with a distaste for humanity. The Force is strong with KOTOR.

2. Star Wars: X-wing VS Tie-fighter

Easily one of the most addictive Star Wars games I have ever laid hands on, simply because Star Wars fans get to climb into cockpits for some intense dogfights. At its core, XvT is a single/multi-player space combat sim, and players get to choose from one of nine different starcrafts. Dogfights in space? Enough said.

3. Star Wars: Rogue Squadron

Based from the novel and comic book series of the same name, gamers take on the role of Luke Skywalker in battles across extensive 3D worlds on planetary surfaces (no free-roaming space battles here, sorry). Explore the hot sands of Tatooine, the oceans of the Mon Calamari (It's a trap!) and the spice mines of Kessel.

More after the break...

4. Star Wars: Jedi Knight II: Jedi Outcast

A standout in the Star Wars action-game genre, kick ass as Kyle Katarn who is essentially Han Solo with Jedi powers (even if you don't start out as a Jedi).

5. Star Wars: The Force Unleashed

One, Galen Marek (Starkiller) is one hell of a bad-ass character. Two, you get to rip down a Star Destroyer using only the Force. It's basically Jedi Knight gone Dark Side. Also you get to force throw wookies on Kashyyyk (sorry Chewie).

6. Star Wars Episode I: Jedi Power Battles

Last but not least, a game that didn't do great in reviews but is still my personal favourite that holds some of my fondest childhood memories, Jedi Power Battles is a two-player game where teamwork and communication is key to avoid screen dragging your friend into a pit.

That said, Steam is having a 66% discount (a cheeky reference to Order 66?) on Star Wars games. Offer ends Monday 10am Pacific time. Happy Star Wars day and May the Fourth be with you!
