The design is gallery-worthy, finished with rounded aluminium corners, an all-glass back and minimalist details. But your hands might not like it &ndash; both the S5 and One M8 are easier to hold than this 163g block, and picking up the Z2 from a desk can be awkward.</p> <p>It has Live Colour LED tech for punchy but accurate hues, and clear-sounding stereo speakers on the front of the phone. Our only niggle? The front is seriously reflective. For a smartphone camera, the Z2 can take incredible photos with its 1/2.5in, 20.7MP sensor and speedy autofocus. It also flies in use: these three phones share the same 2.3GHz Snapdragon 801 processor but the Sony&rsquo;s 3GB of RAM bests its rivals.&nbsp;Small apps in overlaid windows lag occasionally, but it&rsquo;s still a great use of that 5.2in screen, and the Android skin is mostly clutter-free. </p> <p>With a bigger screen, there&rsquo;s a bigger 3200mAh battery and the Z2 reliably lasts the day - with Stamina mode to conserve juice when the screen&rsquo;s off. </p> <p>Overall, this is the connoisseur&rsquo;s choice, capable of taking brilliant photos and playing cinephile video. It oozes quality but isn&rsquo;t the most practical choice. But if you have the time to show Sony some love, it will return it in large dollops.</p> <p><strong>READ MORE: <a href="http://www.stuff.tv/sg/sony/sony-xperia-z2-sirius/review">Sony Xperia Z2 - the full review</a></strong></p> </div> </div> </div> <div class="field field-type-filefield field-field-image"> <div class="field-label">Image #1:&nbsp;</div> <div class="field-items"> <div class="field-item odd"> <img class="imagefield imagefield-field_image" width="1889" height="1417" title="The Xperia Z2 makes almost no compromises" alt="Which smartphone? Although the Z2&rsquo;s a heavy smartphone, this isn&rsquo;t the problem - the HTC weighs just as much. The issue is more that the Z2&rsquo;s toughened glass build would work better scaled down. When you&rsquo;re dealing with a 5.2in diagonal span of glass, ergonomics count (we&rsquo;re hoping the Z2 Compact gets this right).</p> <p>Another smartphone best picked up and fondled before you decide, then. If its shape and minimalist design work for you, you can get back to appreciating everything the Sony does brilliantly. Such as being waterproof: with all the port flaps closed, the Z2 has the same IP55/IP58 water-resistance as the Z1. Plus, the headphone jack is now flap-free.&nbsp;</p> <p><strong>Screen: 9/10</strong></p> <p>In almost every way the Z2&rsquo;s screen is a stunner. It displays fine detail better than both the S5 and the One M8, perfect for pressing your nose up against full HD movies. Viewing angles aren&rsquo;t the best but they&rsquo;re no longer a problem either.</p> <p><strong>Camera: 10/10</strong></p> <p>The Superior Auto mode doesn&rsquo;t always produce the best images &ndash; it can struggle to expose correctly in sunlight and it doesn&rsquo;t have the night vision of the HTC. But chances are, Sony owners won&rsquo;t mind digging into the comprehensive settings.</p> <p>Here it shines: faces come out well in low light, scenes look punchy and the background de-focus mode is mesmerising. Both 1080p and 4K footage are smooth thanks to SteadyShot stabilisation, though autofocus jumps around while filming and, with the Snapdragon heating up, the Z2 can abruptly stop shooting in the higher resolution.</p> <p><strong>OS and apps: 9/10</strong></p> <p>Sony&rsquo;s treatment of KitKat verges on bloatware, with pushy media services ruining the fun. For instance, an upward swipe to access Google Now also shows Sony&rsquo;s What&rsquo;s New app: a feature guaranteed to have zero fans.</p> <p><strong>READ MORE: <a href="http://www.stuff.tv/sg/sony/10-choice-apps-sony-xperia-z2/feature">10 of the best apps for the Sony Xperia Z2</a></strong></p> <p><strong>READ MORE:&nbsp;<a href="http://www.stuff.tv/sony/ultimate-setup-sony-xperia-z2/feature">The best cases, headphones and accessories for the Sony Xperia Z2</a></strong></p> <p>&nbsp;</p> </div> </div> </div> <div class="field field-type-filefield field-field-image"> <div class="field-label">Image #1:&nbsp;</div> <div class="field-items"> <div class="field-item odd"> <img class="imagefield imagefield-field_image" width="2400" height="1800" title="The Sony&#039;s ergonomics hold it back" alt="Which smartphone? Any One (M8) owner will find themselves checking emails too much just to show it off.</p> <p>The 5in, 441ppi screen is super-sharp and considerably bigger than the One&rsquo;s 4.7in display &ndash; it&rsquo;s not a clear winner but in many ways it&rsquo;s our favourite screen here. Colours look natural, text is smooth and viewing angles are fantastic.</p> <p>Has HTC fixed the One&rsquo;s niggles? Battery life is slightly better, bringing it on a par with its rivals &ndash; you shouldn&rsquo;t need the Ultra Power Saving Mode to last the day. But the UltraPixel camera stays. This might disappoint those looking to shoot serious images and footage, but for most, the low-light prowess and focusing tricks are good enough. Nothing else needed tweaking &ndash; in use, it&rsquo;s as fluid as we expect from an HTC and the featureset gets new tricks here and there, such as the ability to swipe straight into BlinkFeed even when the phone is off.</p> <p>It might not have the bragging rights of a 20.7MP camera or a heart-rate sensor, but for us, the extras on the S5 and Z2 simply don&rsquo;t compare to the pure gadget joy you get with the HTC One M8.&nbsp;</p> <p><strong>READ MORE: <a href="http://www.stuff.tv/sg/android/htc-one/review">HTC One (M8) - the full review</a></strong></p> </div> </div> </div> <div class="field field-type-filefield field-field-image"> <div class="field-label">Image #1:&nbsp;</div> <div class="field-items"> <div class="field-item odd"> <img class="imagefield imagefield-field_image" width="1200" height="900" title="The M8 looks every bit as nice as its predecessor" alt="Which smartphone? Not only did it have to face the toughest smartphone competition ever, but it had to surpass its excellent predecessor, the G2, which reigned supreme at the top of Stuff&#39;s best smartphone list until the M8 came along.</p> <p>Thankfully, LG was more than up to the task. The G3 surpasses the G2 in almost every way. For starters, it&#39;s got a 2K display that&#39;s almost sharp enough to cut your eyes on. Sorry if you&#39;re squeamish.</p> <p>While the G2&#39;s 13MP camera remains, LG has thrown in laser-assisted autofocus and 4K video. And it now matches the Samsung with a removable battery and microSD slot.</p> <p>It doesn&#39;t have the booming dual front-facing speakers on the One M8, but its rear 1W speaker is no slouch, and can almost match its HTC rival for loudness, if not bass.</p> <p>While it lacks the Galaxy S5 and Xperia Z2&#39;s waterproof powers, its build is much improved, with a plastic, brushed-metal-look finish that will fool your eyes, if not your fingers.</p> <p>LG&#39;s redesigned its UI too, opting for less eye-searing colours and a more muted, subtle look.</p> <p><strong>READ MORE:&nbsp;<a href="http://www.stuff.tv/sg/g3/lg-g3/review" target="_blank">LG G3 - the full review</a></strong></p> </div> </div> </div> <div class="field field-type-filefield field-field-image"> <div class="field-label">Image #1:&nbsp;</div> <div class="field-items"> <div class="field-item odd"> <img class="imagefield imagefield-field_image" width="567" height="425" title="The G3 in the background appears smaller because it is further away" alt="Samsung Galaxy S5 vs HTC One (M8) vs Sony Xperia Z2 vs LG G3" src="http://images.cdn.stuff.tv/sites/stuff.tv/files/LG%20G3%20Main_0_0_4.jpg?1406253740" /> </div> </div> </div> <div class="field field-type-number-integer field-field-make-full-width"> <div class="field-label">Make full width:&nbsp;</div> <div class="field-items"> <div class="field-item odd"> Do not make full width </div> </div> </div> </fieldset> <fieldset class="content-multigroup-wrapper content-multigroup-8"><div class="field field-type-number-integer field-field-section-paginate"> <div class="field-label">Paginate on this section:&nbsp;</div> <div class="field-items"> <div class="field-item odd"> Don't paginate </div> </div> </div> <div class="field field-type-text field-field-title"> <div class="field-label">Title:&nbsp;</div> <div class="field-items"> <div class="field-item odd"> THE DETAIL </div> </div> </div> <div class="field field-type-text field-field-body"> <div class="field-label">Body:&nbsp;</div> <div class="field-items"> <div class="field-item odd"> <p><strong>Design: 9/10</strong><br />The G3&#39;s faux brushed-metal finish is barely discernible from the real metal rear of the HTC One (M8), and it easily beats the S5 for classiness. Pick it up, though, and its weight (or lack of it) can&#39;t fool your fingers. So it&#39;s no M8, but that doesn&#39;t mean it&#39;s not handsome in its own way.</p> <p><strong>Screen: 9/10&nbsp;</strong><br />The G3 stands out from the crowd, with a 2560 x 1600 2K screen. That&#39;s an insane 538 ppi, though you won&#39;t notice any difference in sharpness in normal use. Look closely enough however, and it does throw up more details than its rivals. Its colours are excellent too - even more realistic than those on the M8 - although brightness, black levels and contrast let it down somewhat. Overall though, it&#39;s one of the best screens our eyes have had the pleasure of ogling.</p> <p><strong>Camera: 10/10</strong><br />The G3&#39;s 13MP camera is, put simply, fantastic. It&#39;s a jack of all trades, and nearly a master of every one. Well-lit shots are packed with crisp detail, and it even beats the light-guzzling M8 in most murky conditions. Its advanced optical image stabilisation, coupled with its laser-assisted autofocus, help keep subjects in focus - and at lightning-quick speeds, too.</p> <p><strong>OS and apps: 9/10</strong><br />LG has thankfully gone down the same fat-trimming path as Samsung. While its UI still isn&#39;t as minimalist as the Z2&#39;s, the garish icons are gone, replaced with flat, pastel-coloured icons.</p> <p>Much of the bloatware is gone too, and LG&#39;s done its best to simplify things. The camera app for example, has had almost every little-used feature eliminated, and its bare controls now make for a much more pleasant experience.</p> <p>LG&#39;s new Smart Notice is less useful. It&#39;s essentially a Google Now clone, and we can&#39;t see any benefit it offers over Google&#39;s own well-established offering.&nbsp;Smart Clean is more useful, prompting you to clean up and delete apps to save memory.</p> <p>Finally, LG&#39;s excellent Knock Code feature negates the need for any fancy fingerprint scanners. Sorry, Samsung. It lets you tap out a pattern on the G3&#39;s screen (even when it&#39;s off),and with over 80,000 combinations, and a higher reliability than fingerprint scanning, LG&#39;s hit on a winner.</p> <p><strong>READ MORE:&nbsp;<a href="http://www.stuff.tv/sg/g3/7-best-apps-and-games-lg-g3/feature" target="_blank">7 of the best apps and games for the LG G3</a></strong></p> <p><strong>READ MORE:&nbsp;<a href="http://www.stuff.tv/sg/android/ultimate-setup-lg-g3/feature" target="_blank">Ultimate setup: LG G3</a></strong></p> </div> </div> </div> <div class="field field-type-filefield field-field-image"> <div class="field-label">Image #1:&nbsp;</div> <div class="field-items"> <div class="field-item odd"> <img class="imagefield imagefield-field_image" width="1200" height="900" title="All the colours of the (LG) rainbow" alt="Samsung Galaxy S5 vs HTC One (M8) vs Sony Xperia Z2 vs LG G3" src="http://images.cdn.stuff.tv/sites/stuff.tv/files/LG_G3_3_1.JPG?1406253740" /> </div> </div> </div> <div class="field field-type-number-integer field-field-make-full-width"> <div class="field-label">Make full width:&nbsp;</div> <div class="field-items"> <div class="field-item odd"> Do not make full width </div> </div> </div> </fieldset> <fieldset class="content-multigroup-wrapper content-multigroup-9"><div class="field field-type-number-integer field-field-section-paginate"> <div class="field-label">Paginate on this section:&nbsp;</div> <div class="field-items"> <div class="field-item odd"> Paginate </div> </div> </div> <div class="field field-type-text field-field-title"> <div class="field-label">Title:&nbsp;</div> <div class="field-items"> <div class="field-item odd"> The verdict </div> </div> </div> <div class="field field-type-text field-field-body"> <div class="field-label">Body:&nbsp;</div> <div class="field-items"> <div class="field-item odd"> <p>The LG G3 doesn&#39;t have the exquisite build of the HTC One M8, nor does it have the extra sensors of the S5. For one thing, it has an excellent screen that, despite being larger than its rivals, doesn&#39;t increase the size of the G3 itself, thanks to LG&#39;s bezel-trimming magic.</p> <p>Its camera is superb and adaptable, and its build, although not metal, both looks and feels good. A removable battery and microSD storage are the cherries on top of an already very tasty cake.</p> <p>The S5 points to a flashy future, the Z2 a controlled one, and the One M8 continues to push design boundaries. It&rsquo;s only the second 2K display we&rsquo;ve clapped eyes on, with the other being the&nbsp;<a href="http://www.stuff.tv/g3/lg-g3/review">LG G3</a>, and unsurprisingly it dominates the front of the Oppo.</p> <p>It&rsquo;s incredibly detailed - 528ppi, in fact - and it shows. Get your pupils up close, lashes on the glass, and you&rsquo;ll notice sharper text on pages with tiny fonts and an extra crispness to hi-res images. Enjoy these moments, because while it&rsquo;s a gorgeous screen in many ways, it&rsquo;s not flawless.</p> <p>Blacks are nice and inky and colours are vivid and accurate; the G3&rsquo;s palette is slightly cooler. But contrast isn&rsquo;t the strongest (a drawback shared by the LG) and on low brightness or off-axis viewing in particular, it just doesn&rsquo;t pop. The G3 also manages to pick up extra bits of detail when watching full HD movies. It&rsquo;s fairly bright, on a par with the G3, though not as bright as a Galaxy S5, so in direct sunlight it can suffer.</p> <p>We should also point out that neither this nor the G3 will make you gasp as soon as you fire it up. Useful though they are, the extra pixels don&rsquo;t make as much of a difference as the jump from 720p to 1080p did. Still, we&rsquo;re being picky.</p> <p>While this isn&rsquo;t quite as good as the best 2K screen on the planet, it&rsquo;s a close call.&nbsp;</p> <p><strong>READ MORE:</strong>&nbsp;<strong><a href="http://www.stuff.tv/sg/g3/lg-g3/review">LG G3 is the best smartphone on the planet. The Oppo can be wiped out in four hours when you&rsquo;ve used it intensively (and constantly) to watch movies, play games and take photos. In our HD video rundown (Wi-Fi on, half brightness) it lasted a slightly more respectable 5hrs 20.</p> <p>Remember everyone on the internet worrying that the&nbsp;<a href="http://www.stuff.tv/sg/g3/lg-g3/review">LG G3&rsquo;s battery</a>&nbsp;doesn&rsquo;t quite match that of the G2? The Oppo shows how well LG did with it. Streaming Netflix on our commute, the Find 7&rsquo;s 3000mAh battery dropped 18% in half an hour - that&rsquo;s versus the G3&rsquo;s much less worrying 8%.</p> <p>Oppo&rsquo;s tried to help in two ways - use the VOOC fast-charging cable supplied in the box and the Oppo will rejuice by 75% in 30 minutes. In reality, you can get back up to full charge in not much longer. The battery unit is also swappable, so you can carry a spare if that&rsquo;s practical.</p> <p>Add in the lower price and although the battery life is a bit of a shame, it&rsquo;s a flaw we can just about live with.&nbsp;</p> <p><strong>READ MORE:&nbsp;<a href="http://www.stuff.tv/sg/android/oneplus-one/review">The affordable OnePlus One that&#39;s almost identical to the Oppo</a></strong></p> </div> </div> </div> <div class="field field-type-filefield field-field-image"> <div class="field-label">Image #1:&nbsp;</div> <div class="field-items"> <div class="field-item odd"> <img class="imagefield imagefield-field_image" width="1200" height="900" title="That 25% won&#039;t last as long as you&#039;d hope" alt="Oppo Find 7 review" src="http://images.cdn.stuff.tv/sites/stuff.tv/files/Oppo-find-7-review-battery-icon_0.png?1406259852" /> </div> </div> </div> <div class="field field-type-number-integer field-field-make-full-width"> <div class="field-label">Make full width:&nbsp;</div> <div class="field-items"> <div class="field-item odd"> Do not make full width </div> </div> </div> </fieldset> <fieldset class="content-multigroup-wrapper content-multigroup-2"><div class="field field-type-number-integer field-field-section-paginate"> <div class="field-label">Paginate on this section:&nbsp;</div> <div class="field-items"> <div class="field-item odd"> Don't paginate </div> </div> </div> <div class="field field-type-text field-field-title"> <div class="field-label">Title:&nbsp;</div> <div class="field-items"> <div class="field-item odd"> ABSURDLY POWERFUL </div> </div> </div> <div class="field field-type-text field-field-body"> <div class="field-label">Body:&nbsp;</div> <div class="field-items"> <div class="field-item odd"> <p>The Find 7 is every bit as powerful as the specs suggest.</p> <p>Day-to-day we experienced no major hiccups and any slight lag was down to Oppo&rsquo;s ColorOS - more on that later. By comparison, the G3 manages 2649.</p> <p>It&rsquo;s also worth mentioning here that the Find 7 comes with 32GB of storage plus the option to expand by up to 128GB via microSD. That makes it even better value next to the 16GB flagships.</p> <p><strong>READ MORE:&nbsp;<a href="http://www.stuff.tv/sg/galaxy-s5/samsung-galaxy-s5/review">Samsung Galaxy S5 reviewed&nbsp;</a></strong></p> </div> </div> </div> <div class="field field-type-filefield field-field-image"> <div class="field-label">Image #1:&nbsp;</div> <div class="field-items"> <div class="field-item odd"> <img class="imagefield imagefield-field_image" width="1200" height="900" title="Browsing, games, everything is fast" alt="Oppo Find 7 review" src="http://images.cdn.stuff.tv/sites/stuff.tv/files/Oppo-Find-7-review-stufftv_0.png?1406259852" /> </div> </div> </div> <div class="field field-type-number-integer field-field-make-full-width"> <div class="field-label">Make full width:&nbsp;</div> <div class="field-items"> <div class="field-item odd"> Do not make full width </div> </div> </div> </fieldset> <fieldset class="content-multigroup-wrapper content-multigroup-3"><div class="field field-type-number-integer field-field-section-paginate"> <div class="field-label">Paginate on this section:&nbsp;</div> <div class="field-items"> <div class="field-item odd"> Don't paginate </div> </div> </div> <div class="field field-type-text field-field-title"> <div class="field-label">Title:&nbsp;</div> <div class="field-items"> <div class="field-item odd"> TALL &#039;N&#039; TITANIUM </div> </div> </div> <div class="field field-type-text field-field-body"> <div class="field-label">Body:&nbsp;</div> <div class="field-items"> <div class="field-item odd"> <p>At this price, the Oppo was never going to match the LG G3&rsquo;s gorgeous, light and almost bezel-less design. But we don&rsquo;t care, because this is a superbly built smartphone in its own right.</p> <p>The combination of its titanium-aluminium frame and removable (if slightly slippy) carbon-fibre back cover with a diagonal pin-stripe pattern means it feels premium, albeit while looking a little safe. It&rsquo;s fairly weighty at 173g and feels sturdy, with none of the flimsiness of a&nbsp;<a href="http://www.stuff.tv/sg/galaxy-s5/samsung-galaxy-s5/review">Galaxy S5</a>. Plus it&rsquo;s easy to hold in one palm despite its 5.5in size. A pulsing &lsquo;Skyline&rsquo; notification light below the screen is a nice touch too, a stylish alternative to the blinking LED dot.</p> <p>Sure, the bezels make it look both taller than most and a bit retro. The capacitive buttons are too dim, which is a pain. And overall the thinner, lighter&nbsp;<a href="http://www.stuff.tv/sg/android/oneplus-one/review">OnePlus</a>&nbsp;with its changeable covers does feel like the cooler, more characterful device.</p> <p>But the Find 7 has a solid, understated design and it&rsquo;s a lot easier to actually get one in your hands.</p> <p>One more thing that might annoy: call quality is fine but the speaker volume is a little low, making it tricky to hear what the person on the other end is saying. We were wary of this at first but it&rsquo;s easy to do - you just hold the shutter down - and can produce usable, hi-res shots. Do be prepared for mammoth file sizes though.</p> <p>The front-facer is also a cut above the usual, so if you want sharper selfies, you&rsquo;re in luck. You can customise your own gestures, with almost every basic action available via a swipe of your choosing or a shape drawn onscreen. You can also choose themes to customise homescreens, lockscreens, fonts and icons; one of them even gives it a relatively stock Android look and feel.</p> <p>Some of the basics have international quirks that you&rsquo;ll have to get used to - for instance, nav buttons such as &lsquo;connect&rsquo; and &lsquo;cancel&rsquo; are often switched round so the &lsquo;back&rsquo; option is on the right. And the pre-installed keyboard might say &lsquo;input contents&rsquo; in an empty message. But chances are you&rsquo;ll swap the keyboard out anyway.</p> <p>Now flagships have grown to G3-proportions, it&rsquo;s tempting to forget that at this size this is a&nbsp;<a href="http://www.stuff.tv/sg/galaxy-note-3/samsung-galaxy-note-3/review">Galaxy Note 3</a>&nbsp;rival. ColorOS itself doesn&rsquo;t push the big screen factor - there&rsquo;s no split screen feature or floating windows as you&rsquo;d get on a Samsung. According to <a href="http://www.bloomberg.com/news/2013-11-10/apple-said-developing-curved-iphone-screens-enhanced-sensors.html" target="_blank">Bloomberg</a>, Apple is working on 4.7in and 5.5in iPhone models. Whether or not these are experimental&nbsp;prototypes&nbsp;or final products remains to be seen, but at least we can generally agree that, whatever the final size, the iPhone 6 will arrive with the biggest screen yet seen on an&nbsp;Apple&nbsp;smartphone.</p> <p>Not only that, but Bloomberg&#39;s source also states that the iPhone 6 will arrive with a curved glass display which &nbsp;wraps around the edge of the device. Watch out <a href="http://www.stuff.tv/sg/g-flex/lg-g-flex/review" target="_blank">LG G Flex</a> and <a href="http://www.stuff.tv/sg/android/samsung-throws-curve-ball-samsung-galaxy-round/news" target="_blank">Samsung Galaxy Round</a>.</p> <p><strong>Update 21/01/14</strong>&nbsp;Analyst Sun Changxu&nbsp;<a href="http://www.stuff.tv/sg/apple/iphones-iphones-everywhere-apple-prepping-47in-and-57in-iphone-6-june-launch/news" target="_blank">backs up</a>&nbsp;Bloomberg&#39;s claims of smaller and larger iPhone 6 variants, differing only in the specifics &ndash; apparently the larger iPhone will sport a 5.7in screen.</p> <p><strong>Update 23/01/14&nbsp;</strong>Another day, another analyst chipping in with more claims of a big-screen iPhone. This time it&#39;s the Cowen Group&rsquo;s Timothy Arcuri who&#39;s been consulting the entrails and the paths of migrating birds (or, you know, sources in the supply chain), concluding that the iPhone 6 is&nbsp;<a href="http://appleinsider.com/articles/14/01/22/analyst-apples-iphone-6-design-locked-down-with-48-display-80211ac-wi-fi" target="_blank">&quot;locked down&quot;</a>&nbsp;with a 4.8in screen.</p> <p>Oh, and finally, Apple is also reportedly tinkering away on a pressure-sensitive display which can detect how hard&nbsp;you&#39;re&nbsp;pressing it, although it&#39;s unlikely that the magical tech will be present in the next iPhone.</p> <p><strong>Update 11/07/14:</strong>&nbsp;Chinese media reports that the iPhone 6&#39;s screen will benefit from&nbsp;<a href="http://www.gsmarena.com/iphone_6_screen_may_have_new_haptic_technology-news-8999.php" target="_blank">all-new, never-seen-before haptic technology</a>.&nbsp;The tech will allow the screen to vibrate in a wider variety of ways and even deliver different vibrations depending on where your finger touches the screen. All previous versions of iOS have debuted with a new bit of hardware, and given that we know iOS 8 will be out in the autumn, it stands to reason that it will arrive on the iPhone 6.</p> <p>So what&#39;s new about it? Rather a lot, actually.</p> <p>For starters, iOS 8 will mark a major break with the past for Apple, in that third-party apps will have greater access to the OS&#39; inner workings. You&#39;ll now be able to install third-party widgets into the Notification Centre, add third-party keyboards such as Swype and SwiftKey.</p> <p>Apps will also be able to install extensions within other apps. So, for instance, tapping on an image within Apple&#39;s Photos apps will give you the option to apply filters from other photography apps you may have installed.</p> <p>They&#39;ll even be able to work with Touch ID, so the possibility of paying for an Ebay purchase with the tap of a finger is now very real. But, because of the way Apple will still control security, third-party apps won&#39;t themselves have access to your fingerprint or other sensitive info - so you won&#39;t need to worry about your data being stolen.</p> <p>As has long been rumoured, iOS 8 will also see the arrival of a Health app. It&#39;ll work with the new HealthKit tool for devs and will collect data from all of your third-party health and fitness apps, syncing and presenting it all in the one place.</p> <p>Even without any hardware developments, Health could prove a very useful app. Health and fitness trackers are notoriously bad at working well with each other, meaning that you usually have to go into several apps in order to view all of your data. Apple&#39;s solution could put an end to this, and big partners such as Nike are already on board.</p> <p>That said, we wouldn&#39;t be surprised to see Apple include a hardware feature or two to make the most of the new app. The iPhone 5s&#39; M7 motion co-processor is already capable of tracking and analysing movement data, but if the iPhone 6 included a heart-rate monitor such as the one on the&nbsp;<a href="http://www.stuff.tv/sg/galaxy-s5/samsung-galaxy-s5/review">Samsung Galaxy S5</a>, that would give it greater powers. Or maybe that&#39;s something that will feature on the fabled&nbsp;<a href="http://www.stuff.tv/sg/apple/apple-iwatch/review">iWatch</a>...</p> <p>Gaming should be big news on the iPhone 6. As well as having a larger, more finger-friendly screen and more powerful processor, it&#39;ll also gain new skills via iOS 8. Apple&#39;s invented a new programming language, called Swift, and a developer tool called Metal, and together they should bring console-quality graphics to the iPhone.</p> <p>At WWDC, Apple showed off a demo of a game called&nbsp;<em>Zen Garden</em>, which looked seriously nice. The App Store is also being reworked to make it easier to find the best games (and apps in general), and we expect big releases to arrive with iOS 8 in the autumn.</p> <p>And then there&#39;s Continuity. That&#39;s Apple&#39;s name for a raft of services which link your iPhone to your iPad and your Mac, so long as it&#39;s running the new&nbsp;<a href="http://www.stuff.tv/sg/apple/mac-os-x-yosemite/review">OS X Yosemite</a>&nbsp;(which will also debut in the autumn). Chief among them is Handoff, which will let you start a task on one device and continue it on another. For instance you could tap out half an email on your iPhone, then stroll over to your Mac and with a single click on the Mail icon, finish it off there.&nbsp;You&#39;ll also be able to pick up phone calls on your Mac using your iPhone&#39;s connection, or create a hot spot with a single click when you don&#39;t have any Wi-Fi.</p> <p>And we could go on: iCloud Drive will bring Dropbox-like document storage and syncing to iOS; Family Sharing will enable you to share iTunes and App Store purchases with up to six family members; HomeKit will let Apple control all of your home-automation gadgets; mail and messaging will get new abilities; Siri will be smarter; Photos will be synced across devices...
