50GB PS4 games will take up to 50 hours to download (let's hope they're worth the wait)

Gamers could be twiddling their thumbs for extended periods if they opt for the next-gen digital download route

Next-gen PS4 titles could take close to 50 hours to download according to broadband site Think Broadband.

The site estimated various download times for a typical 50GB PS4 title, and users with a 2Mbps connection could be faced with a download time of 55 hours.

Even with a 10Mbps connection, you're still looking at 11 hours before the entirety of the game is nestled in your PS4's hard drive.

Speed matters

Think Broadband editor Andrew Ferguson clarifies that these download estimates are all assuming that Sony's servers have the capacity to provide as fast a speed as possible to all gamers.

It's not all gloom and doom though. Sony has already revealed that the PS4 will let you play games before they've even finished downloading, letting you play through the first levels while the later ones continue to download in the background.

Still, 50 hours is a long time to wait for a single game and it could put people off digital downloads until internet speeds catch up.
