On the one hand you can stream to any one of the units directly from a music streaming app such as Spotify (presumably through Bluetooth), but to take advantage of the Party Mode that sends music to multiple speakers simultaneously you need to use the dedicated Panasonic Music Streaming App.</p> <p>What you can play via the second method will depend on specific partnerships being put together, but with AllPlay already having Spotify and Napster on-board it&rsquo;s off to a strong start.</p> <p>Will that be enough to tempt everyone away from Sonos? However, on the W850 it&#39;s difficult to see why you&#39;d want the small, swivelly, screen-side camera. It only records VGA, and only as a window in the main camera&rsquo;s footage, so you can&rsquo;t switch between cameras (which would be handy for shooting an interview, or a wide and close angle on a subject). So in our brief experience we got two kinds of results from the two-camera camcorder: either a confusingly small picture of something far away or a deeply unflattering, chin-filled close-up of the shooter&#39;s face. If you can think of any film that would be improved by having your peering, distracted mug superimposed on a quarter of the screen, this is the feature for you.&nbsp;</p> <p class="p1">The tiny camera on the side may be about as useful as a waterproof teabag, but the W850&rsquo;s main eye is a feat of precision engineering. While most camcorders have two lens groups (a zoom group and a focus group), the W850 has four. The two extra zoom groups allow for a 50x optical zoom in a body the size and weight of a small hot dog (bun included). It can shoot 1080p slow motion (half-speed), and it can switch to slo-mo without breaking recording. While it&rsquo;s light it feels fairly sturdy and at first squint the footage looked impressive, especially zoomed right in.&nbsp;</p> <p class="p1">While pawing the W850 we were also shown an interesting accessory, the VW-CTR1 Pan Tilt Cradle. Mount your Panasonic camcorder on this robotic tripod (the W850 or its more affordable sibling, the V550) and you can shoot from anywhere, using your phone or PC. If you&rsquo;re a private investigator, a spy or a keen birdwatcher, this could be worth a (surreptitious) look.</p> </div> </div> </div> <div class="field field-type-hcmvideofield-video field-field-brightcove-video"> <div class="field-label">Video ID/URL:&nbsp;</div> <div class="field-items"> <div class="field-item odd"> <div class="messages warning">This video is not currently supported.</div> </div> </div> </div> <div class="field field-type-filefield field-field-image"> <div class="field-label">Image #1:&nbsp;</div> <div class="field-items"> <div class="field-item odd"> <img class="imagefield imagefield-field_image" width="1200" height="900" alt="" src="http://images.cdn.stuff.tv/sites/stuff.tv/files/IMG_2231.JPG?1389069126" /> </div> </div> </div> <div class="field field-type-filefield field-field-image-2"> <div class="field-label">Image #2:&nbsp;</div> <div class="field-items"> <div class="field-item odd"> <img class="imagefield imagefield-field_image_2" width="1200" height="900" title="It tilts, it pans, it connects to the cloud." alt="" src="http://images.cdn.stuff.tv/sites/stuff.tv/files/IMG_2221.JPG?1389069126" /> </div> </div> </div> <div class="field field-type-filefield field-field-image-3"> <div class="field-label">Image #3:&nbsp;</div> <div class="field-items"> <div class="field-item odd"> <img class="imagefield imagefield-field_image_3" width="1200" height="900" alt="" src="http://images.cdn.stuff.tv/sites/stuff.tv/files/W850_K_slant_LCD.jpg?1389069126" /> </div> </div> </div> <div class="field field-type-number-integer field-field-make-full-width"> <div class="field-label">Make full width:&nbsp;</div> <div class="field-items"> <div class="field-item odd"> Do not make full width </div> </div> </div> </fieldset> </fieldset> <p><a href="http://www.stuff.tv/sg/panasonic/hands-review-panasonic-w850-camcorder/news" target="_blank">read more</a></p> http://www.stuff.tv/sg/panasonic/hands-review-panasonic-w850-camcorder/news#comments Camcorders CES 2014 Panasonic Mon, 06 Jan 2014 16:49:54 +0000 Tein Hee Seow 1430797 at http://www.stuff.tv Panasonic’s tiniest mirrorless cam is coming soon http://www.stuff.tv/sg/panasonic/panasonic-GM-1-asean-launch/news <div class="field field-type-text field-field-standfirst"> <div class="field-items"> <div class="field-item odd"> Expect the Lumix DMC-GM1 to hit our shores in mid-December </div> </div> </div> <div class="field field-type-filefield field-field-main-image"> <div class="field-items"> <div class="field-item odd"> <img class="imagefield imagefield-field_main_image" width="604" height="453" alt="" src="http://images.cdn.stuff.tv/sites/stuff.tv/files/images/news/GM1%20_0.jpg?1385947812" /> </div> </div> </div> <p><a href="http://www.stuff.tv/sg/panasonic/panasonic-releases-tiniest-mirrorless-camera-ever/news">About a month back</a>, Panasonic announced what it claimed was the smallest mirrorless camera in the market, the Lumix DMC-GM1. Considering the size of the of the GM1, we&rsquo;re surprised it isn&rsquo;t bursting at the seams.</p> <p>The camera will be available with a 12-32mm f/3.5-5.6 kit lens, but there are other lenses that&rsquo;ll be made specifically to fit the GM1&rsquo;s size, including a Leica DG Summilux 15mm f/1.7. Of course, you&rsquo;ll still be able to fit conventional Panasonic Micro Four Thirds and DSLR (via adaptor) lenses on the GM1, though we highly doubt conventional users will be using lenses bigger than their camera. It&#39;d be a pretty comical sight If they did.</p> <p>The GM1 is expected to retail in Singapore at S$999, which is about the same price as the <a href="http://www.stuff.tv/sg/sony/sony-unveils-cyber-shot-rx100-ii-nfc-and-wi-fi-smarts/news">Sony RX100 II</a>.</p> <p>As for the Leica lenses, the Leica DG Summilux 15mm f/1.7 will probably arrive in the first quarter of 2014. In fact the GX7 shares very similar styling, specs and price with the Sony. The GX7 is about a centimetre bigger in all dimensions, and while it&#39;s not what you&#39;d call a big camera, it definitely feels significantly larger and heavier than the Sony.</p> <p>In common with the Sony NEX 7, the Panasonic GX7 ticks all of the main system camera boxes, those being interchangeable lenses, a built-in flash and an electronic viewfinder. We tested it with the 14-42mm kit lens, and in that arrangement it can shoot indoors under dim lighting at around 1/40th a second at a fairly noise-free 3200 ISO &ndash; in other words it&#39;s just about quick enough to shoot indoors without a flash and without having to worry too much about motion blur (depending on what you&#39;re snapping, of course). The usability of the EVF is enhanced with a high resolution display and a diopter slider that, for once, is actually big enough to adjust to your eye&#39;s focal faculties without employing tweezers and a vice. The High Dynamic Range setting is also a real help in darker settings. Their latest mirrorless camera, the Lumix DMC-GM1 beats any of the competition hands down when it comes to size.</p> <p>To put that into perspective, Sony’s compact single-lens camera, the <a href="http://www.stuff.tv/sg/rx100/sony-rx100/review" target="_blank">Sony RX100</a>, measures 101.6 x 58.1 x 35.9mm. The GM1 measures in at 98.5mm x 54.9mm x 30.4mm and it still manages to fit a 16-megapixel Micro Four Thirds sensor in.</p> <div class="field field-type-userreference field-field-byline"> <div class="field-label">Byline:&nbsp;</div> <div class="field-items"> <div class="field-item odd"> <a href="/sg/users/nigel-yap-0" title="View user profile.">Nigel Yap</a> </div> </div> </div> <fieldset class="content-multigroup-group-sections"><legend>News Section</legend><fieldset class="content-multigroup-wrapper content-multigroup-0"><div class="field field-type-number-integer field-field-section-paginate"> <div class="field-label">Paginate on this section:&nbsp;</div> <div class="field-items"> <div class="field-item odd"> Don't paginate </div> </div> </div> <div class="field field-type-text field-field-title"> <div class="field-label">Title:&nbsp;</div> <div class="field-items"> <div class="field-item odd"> Everything the GX7 is, just smaller </div> </div> </div> <div class="field field-type-text field-field-body"> <div class="field-label">Body:&nbsp;</div> <div class="field-items"> <div class="field-item odd"> <p>The GM1 packs everything that its bigger brother the GX7 has, including a 16-megapixel Live-MOS sensor, Venus Engine image processor, ISO up to 25,600 and fast autofocusing functions.&nbsp; You'll have to live with some compromises such as the lack of an electronic viewfinder and an articulated LCD screen.&nbsp;</p> <p>The kit lens is equally impressive. Built specifically for this model, the 12-32mm f/3.5-5.6 kit lens is perfectly fitted for the GM1 and even collapses into a more compact size to fit into your pants.&nbsp;A Leica Summilux-branded 15mm f/1.7 lens is also planned for this petite shooter.</p> <p>The GM1 has no lack of lenses to choose from since it is compatible with Panasonic's extensive range of Micro Four Thirds Lumix lenses. Just don’t expect it to be as pretty or fit comfortably inside your pockets, unless you are wearing a size 44.</p> <p>So where does this compact mirrorless camera fit in this ever-expanding world of cameras? Considering its size and price at USD$749.99 ($933), it's more likely to be taking on <a href="http://www.stuff.tv/sg/rx100/sony-rx100/review" target="_blank">Sony's RX100</a> ($849) and <a href="http://www.stuff.tv/sg/sony/sony-unveils-cyber-shot-rx100-ii-nfc-and-wi-fi-smarts/news" target="_blank">RX100 II</a> ($999) cameras. They’re almost the same size and most importantly, around the same price. The GM1, however, has the added advantage with its wide range of interchangeable lenses.&nbsp;</p> <p>Source: <a href="http://panasonic.net/avc/lumix/pressrelease/gm1_fs12032/" target="_blank">Panasonic</a> via <a href="http://www.theverge.com/2013/10/17/4847452/panasonic-lumix-gm1-announced" target="_blank">The Verge</a></p> </div> </div> </div> <div class="field field-type-hcmvideofield-video field-field-brightcove-video"> <div class="field-label">Video ID/URL:&nbsp;</div> <div class="field-items"> <div class="field-item odd"> <div class="messages warning">This video is not currently supported.</div> </div> </div> </div> <div class="field field-type-number-integer field-field-make-full-width"> <div class="field-label">Make full width:&nbsp;</div> <div class="field-items"> <div class="field-item odd"> Do not make full width </div> </div> </div> </fieldset> </fieldset> <p><a href="http://www.stuff.tv/sg/panasonic/panasonic-releases-tiniest-mirrorless-camera-ever/news" target="_blank">read more</a></p> http://www.stuff.tv/sg/panasonic/panasonic-releases-tiniest-mirrorless-camera-ever/news#comments Cameras Panasonic System Cameras Thu, 17 Oct 2013 09:06:49 +0000 Nigel Yap 1428015 at http://www.stuff.tv Panasonic reveals world's first 4K HDMI 2.0 TV http://www.stuff.tv/sg/panasonic/ifa-2013/panasonic-reveals-worlds-first-4k-hdmi-20-tv/news <div class="field field-type-text field-field-standfirst"> <div class="field-items"> <div class="field-item odd"> Panny&#039;s new 65in telly is looking to shower your eyes with pixel-packed excellence </div> </div> </div> <div class="field field-type-filefield field-field-main-image"> <div class="field-items"> <div class="field-item odd"> <img class="imagefield imagefield-field_main_image" width="667" height="500" title="Panasonic reveals world&#039;s first 4K HDMI 2.0 TV" alt="Panasonic reveals world&#039;s first 4K HDMI 2.0 TV" src="http://images.cdn.stuff.tv/sites/stuff.tv/files/images/news/panasonic-wt600.jpg?1378355437" /> </div> </div> </div> <p>Panasonic has kicked off IFA with a new Smart Viera TX-L65WT600 65in 4K TV with an HDMI 2.0 connection which supports 60p 4K video playback.</p> <p>The previous generation HDMI 1.4 only supports 4K playback to a maximum of 30p (<a href="http://www.stuff.tv/sg/microsoft/sony-ps4-vs-xbox-one-4k-war-begins/feature" target="_blank">much to the lament of the Xbox One and PS4</a>), but Panny's new set supports up to 60 frames per second. For YouTubers that's great news, as it means you can talk to your audience and monitor your footage at the same time, without all those disconcerting off-camera glances.</p> </div> </div> </div> <div class="field field-type-hcmvideofield-video field-field-brightcove-video"> <div class="field-label">Video ID/URL:&nbsp;</div> <div class="field-items"> <div class="field-item odd"> <div class="messages warning">This video is not currently supported.</div> </div> </div> </div> <div class="field field-type-filefield field-field-image"> <div class="field-label">Image #1:&nbsp;</div> <div class="field-items"> <div class="field-item odd"> <img class="imagefield imagefield-field_image" width="1200" height="900" title="Panasonic Lumix GF6 self-portrait" alt="Panasonic Lumix GF6 self-portrait" src="http://images.cdn.stuff.tv/sites/stuff.tv/files/PanasonicGF6-hands-10.JPG?1373878851" /> </div> </div> </div> <div class="field field-type-filefield field-field-image-2"> <div class="field-label">Image #2:&nbsp;</div> <div class="field-items"> <div class="field-item odd"> <img class="imagefield imagefield-field_image_2" width="1200" height="900" title="Panasonic Lumix GF6 LCD" alt="Panasonic Lumix GF6 LCD" src="http://images.cdn.stuff.tv/sites/stuff.tv/files/PanasonicGF6-hands-9.JPG?1373878851" /> </div> </div> </div> <div class="field field-type-number-integer field-field-make-full-width"> <div class="field-label">Make full width:&nbsp;</div> <div class="field-items"> <div class="field-item odd"> Do not make full width </div> </div> </div> </fieldset> <fieldset class="content-multigroup-wrapper content-multigroup-1"><div class="field field-type-number-integer field-field-section-paginate"> <div class="field-label">Paginate on this section:&nbsp;</div> <div class="field-items"> <div class="field-item odd"> Don't paginate </div> </div> </div> <div class="field field-type-text field-field-title"> <div class="field-label">Title:&nbsp;</div> <div class="field-items"> <div class="field-item odd"> Built-in flash and build </div> </div> </div> <div class="field field-type-text field-field-body"> <div class="field-label">Body:&nbsp;</div> <div class="field-items"> <div class="field-item odd"> <p>So we can do without the viewfinder, right? For example, to put the camera into one of its Auto modes you have to press a dedicated button marked "iA". When this is done, the main mode dial ceases to respond or alter any settings. It's confusing to have the Auto modes taken off that main mode dial, and the only indication that you are in Auto mode is a tiny blue halo around the button, which can be hard to see in sunlight.</p> <p>That means it's easy to shoot in the wrong mode accidentally. For example, you might think you're in Auto mode but you're actually in Manual, or vice-versa. Also, the main dial on the rear panel works differently depending on which mode you're in, and even if you do know which mode that is, the tiny white-on-silver icons on it are almost unreadble. For example, during the test we accidentially fired off a shot in Manual, set to a 60-second exposure, which in effect locked up the camera for a minute, plus another minute while it processed the shot. Fortunately we were shooting a herd of sleepy cows rather than a blink-and-you'll-miss-it moment of magic.</p> <p>Then there's the touchscreen, another part in the overall interface jigsaw that doesn't quite fit. Some elements are buttons that need to be touched, while others are simply readouts, and it's never that clear what's what, and how you're expected to interact with the touchscreen. With an inconsistent menu system added to the mix, you might be inclined to shy away from some of the GF6's deeper features, which is a shame. &nbsp;&nbsp;</p> </div> </div> </div> <div class="field field-type-filefield field-field-image"> <div class="field-label">Image #1:&nbsp;</div> <div class="field-items"> <div class="field-item odd"> <img class="imagefield imagefield-field_image" width="1200" height="900" alt="" src="http://images.cdn.stuff.tv/sites/stuff.tv/files/PanasonicGF6-hands-4.JPG?1373878851" /> </div> </div> </div> <div class="field field-type-number-integer field-field-make-full-width"> <div class="field-label">Make full width:&nbsp;</div> <div class="field-items"> <div class="field-item odd"> Do not make full width </div> </div> </div> </fieldset> <fieldset class="content-multigroup-wrapper content-multigroup-7"><div class="field field-type-number-integer field-field-section-paginate"> <div class="field-label">Paginate on this section:&nbsp;</div> <div class="field-items"> <div class="field-item odd"> Don't paginate </div> </div> </div> <div class="field field-type-text field-field-title"> <div class="field-label">Title:&nbsp;</div> <div class="field-items"> <div class="field-item odd"> Summary </div> </div> </div> <div class="field field-type-text field-field-body"> <div class="field-label">Body:&nbsp;</div> <div class="field-items"> <div class="field-item odd"> <p>There's a lot to like about the Panasonic GF6. In terms of performance, the TZ40 is quick to start-up with only a hint of shutter lag.
