Steam Dev Days
When Steam says it has figured out how to make affordable virtual reality a reality, you listen up. The company made the announcement not via a fancy press release but in the itinerary for its Steam Developer Days session.
The developers-only event will be held January 15-16, 2014 in Seattle.
Developer first peeks
In a developer track titled: "What VR Could, Should, and Almost Certainly Will Be within Two Years", the description has this straight from the horse's mouth:"We’ve figured out what affordable Virtual Reality (VR) hardware will be capable of within a couple of years, and assembled a prototype which demonstrates that such VR hardware is capable of stunning experiences." The person speaking during the session will be Valve's own Michael Abrash, who is one of the Valve team working on virtual reality. Another Valve employee, Joe Ludwig will be talking about how Valve's virtual reality plans will affect Steam. It will include discussions about how the Steam Overlay will be in VR, Steam changes to accomodate VR as well as the VR plan for Steamworks. All pretty exciting stuff, you have to admit. We'll keep you posted on what else Valve is up to when we get the news.
