Pick which outside sounds to block out with Here One wireless earbuds

There’s a baby wailing on the bus? Just block it out

So it’s a pair of wireless earbuds?

Indeed it is – but not just any wireless earbuds. Here One comes with smart noise filters that let you block out whichever exterior sounds you want, while letting others in.

Explain, please!

When you’ve got the buds tucked in your lugholes, you can block out ambient exterior noise – as you can with most noise-cancelling headphones. But you can also adjust the volume of this blocking – or select certain sounds to block, while others will be heard clearly.

Why would I want to do that?

Let’s say you’re riding your bike to work through a busy city and you want to listen to music. With Here One, you can make sure that traffic noise will still be audible, letting you stay aware of your surroundings. But if you decide to get the train home, you can block out all outside noise, so you don’t have to listen to the screech of babies or the rattle of the railway. It’s the best of both worlds, baby!

Is that all?

No, it can also amplify speech, so if you’re at a crowded party you can hear conversations more clearly. People might wonder why you’re wearing headphones at a party, mind you.

And what about the tech stuff?

Well, Here One uses Bluetooth to link up wirelessly to Android and iOS devices, where an app allows you to adjust the various volumes and control how much ambient noise is filtered out/in. There’s an EQ so you can tune music performance too, and the app will learn your preferences for everything, meaning you shouldn’t have to spend too much time fiddling around with it.

Alright, but what’s the sound quality like?

No idea – we haven’t used them yet. They’re not coming out until the end of the year.

But if I decide to take a punt on them anyway?

US-based customers can pre-order now ahead of a November launch, while those in other parts of the world will be able to pre-order from the autumn. Interested? You can sign up for updates at the Here One website. Oh, and they’ll cost US$299 (£225).
