Panasonic reveals world’s first 4K HDMI 2.0 TV

Panny's new 65in telly is looking to shower your eyes with pixel-packed excellence

Panasonic has kicked off IFA with a new Smart Viera TX-L65WT600 65in 4K TV with an HDMI 2.0 connection which supports 60p 4K video playback.

The previous generation HDMI 1.4 only supports 4K playback to a maximum of 30p (much to the lament of the Xbox One and PS4), but Panny’s new set supports up to 60 frames per second. But why should you be excited?

Well,if The Hobbit is ever released on 4K Blu-ray for example, then you’ll be able to watch it at a full 4K resolution at 48 frames per second, just like Peter Jackson intended.

The Viera WT600 also has a 60p-cabable display port for PC gamers with beastly rigs looking to make the most of their earth-shattering graphics cards, while a built-in HTML 5 web browser lets you surf the interwebs in your living room without any hassle.

It’s also got a built-in 4K H.264 decoder, which in English means that you’ll be able to play 4K content directly from USB and SD cards, as well as straight off the web. If only there was any 4K content to actually watch though eh?

There’s no word on a price or release date for the time being, but we wouldn’t be too surprised to see it drain little Timmy’s first car fund. He can ride the bike for a few more years, it’s good for him anyway.
