Nvidia Tegra Note: the world’s fastest 7in tablet

The Note totes pure Android, front-facing speakers and the scorching Tegra 4 processor

Nvidia has just lifted the lid on the Tegra Note, a 7in Android tablet powered by the company’s Tegra 4 processor.

Designed with gaming in mind, the Tegra Note should greatly benefit from the Tegra 4’s 72-core GPU and quad-core CPU. In fact, Nvidia claims it’ll be the fastest 7in tablet on the market (you can read about the scorching speeds of the Tegra 4 in our piece about it here).

The screen is a 1280 x 800 IPS LCD and comes with a stylus for note-taking (a bit odd in a games-centric tablet, but we’ll let it pass). Nvidia has also crammed in front-facing stereo speakers with PureAudio technology, and apparently these will offer the widest frequency range of any tablet speakers around.

Running on pure Android

There’s 16GB of storage, plus a microSD slot allowing you to add up to 32GB extra, and the battery should deliver around 10 hours of HD video playback on a single charge. Oh, and there’s a 5MP rear camera with 100fps slow motion video, plus a VGA front camera for video chat.

The Tegra Note runs on a “pure” Android OS, so should offer a similar user experience to the 2013 edition of the Nexus 7, free of third-party UI tweaks.

It’ll be priced at £180 when it goes on sale, although just when that’ll be is a bit unclear: Nvidia simply says that its partners will bring the tablet to market “in the next few months”. Once we know more, we’ll let you know.
