Indie game is a coffee lover's waking nightmare
Dylan Browne probably knows too well the desperation of someone deprived of coffee. He's gone as far as to start an IndieGogo campaign to fund his game about a future full of caffeine deprivation named, aptly, Caffeine.
Billed as a sci-fi horror adventure game, you find yourself on a ship in a future where humans have gotten so desperate for coffee they have taken to space to find a worthy substitute. Apparently, we have managed to drink so much of it there just isn't any left on Earth.
May the stars save us from running out of coffee
In the game you wake up in a caffeine mining station. The station is just one of many created so that corporations can mine minerals to create synthetic caffeine. So you find yourself wandering the station to find out just what's going on.
The game is being developed in Unreal Engine 4, which "allows for a very high visual fidelity". Meaning it'll have decent graphics for a one-man indie game.
What Browne promises is the game will eventually make its way to the PS4, support Occulus Rift as well as be released on Windows, Mac and Linux versions. Pretty ambitious for a solo game studio and from the video demo of the game, it looks pretty polished.
To know what you're getting there's actually an option to download Windows and Linux demos so you can decide for yourself if it's worth backing.
Browne's campaign is asking only US$5000 and for the minimum sum of US$15 you'll get yourself a copy of the game when it releases some time next year. A good bet for people into survival games or think US$15 isn't too much for a game with an interesting enough premise.
