As if we didn't need another time-waster on our smartphones and tablets, Flappy Bird has arrived. If you wanted the physics-based challenge of Angry Birds or the fun elements of Cut the Rope or Where's My Water...trust us, you won't find it here.
The game's premise is simple: using your finger and a lot of tapping, navigate a bird through a trail of pipes. It is really not as easy as it sounds, though, as many enraged reaction videos of Flappy Bird players will show.
But there's one happy person here - Vietnamese developer Dong Nguyen says he earns an estimated US$50,000 a day from ad revenue of this free game.
So far the app has surpassed 50 million downloads, garnering over 47,000 reviews in the App Store. Most game studios would likely kill for numbers like those but to add insult to injury, Nguyen only spend a few nights coding Flappy Bird into existence.
If you have time to kill (and don't want to play the game), we suggest you read some of the choice reviews on the app. Take this gem for instance:
"I was like you once, just a happy-go-lucky person wanting to find a game to play when I had nothing else to do. And that's when it entered my life. This monster, this demon, this... bird. I didn't see it coming, but never would I have known that for the next month, I would be swallowed whole...."
