Facebook is apparently working on a human-powered digital assistant called Moneypenny

Siri, Cortana and Google Now could soon have company

Facebook has made a lot of changes to keep itself at the top of the social media ladder by adding cash transfers, messaging and more, and now it’s adding another weapon to its arsenal – a virtual assistant built directly into its Messaging app.

Internally referred to as Moneypenny (according to The Information’s report), the service uses real people to answer your questions and carry out tasks, unlike existing virtual assistants like Apple’s Siri, Microsoft’s Cortana, and Google Now.

The exact ins and outs of the system aren’t known at this stage, though it sounds like it currently only takes on queries related to general search and shopping.

We also don’t know how big the Moneypenny team will be, or if we’ll have to pay any extra for complex questions.

That’s all we know about the mysterious assistant so far, but we expect Facebook to reveal it in its full glory when its ready to hit our devices, so stay tuned.
