Archos Gamepad 2
A new Android-based handheld console from Archos has been unofficially unveiled thanks to a slip-up on retail website HKTDC.
The Archos Gamepad 2 appeared on the Archos supplier page briefly before being swiftly pulled.
The tablet with wings
From the look of the picture, the Archos Gamepad 2 gets its gaming skills from the physical controls set around the display. These appear to include a D-pad, four main action buttons, dual analogue thumbsticks and at least two shoulder buttons. Those wings also provide enough room for front-facing speakers.
According to the listing, it has a 1.6GHz quad-core processor running a 7in, 1280 x 800px IPS display, 2GB of RAM and the option of 8GB or 16GB or storage.
It will also come preloaded with Asphalt 8: Airborne and Modern Combat 4, as well as the 'Archos mapping tool' for mapping some games' controls to the gamepad.#mce_temp_url#
It doesn't appear to have the raw grunt of the soon-to-be-arriving Nvidia Shield, but we welcome any addition to the rather slim category of Android gaming tablets.
There's no word on a Singapore price or release date yet, or even if it'll come here, but we'll keep you posted.
