Apple iPhone 6C: spy shot may confirm its existence

Is this leaked image our first glimpse of Cupertino’s next plastic-clad iPhone?

Last week rumours began to circulate that Apple was preparing to launch a new plastic iPhone in September, tentatively dubbed the iPhone 6C. Well, now we appear to have photographic evidence to back that up.

Mobile component reseller Future Supplier has obtained spy snaps of what appears to be the rear casing of the upcoming smartphone. It looks distinctly similar to the iPhone 5C in terms of shape and size (the 6C is rumoured to come with a 4in screen, just like the 5C), there are a couple of clear differences.

First, the hole for the rear camera’s LED flash is oval-shaped, like that of the iPhone 5s. Second, the bottom edge shows two speaker holes, while the 5C only has the one grille.

Last week’s rumours suggest the iPhone 6C may be significantly cheaper than the 5C was at launch. So while the earlier plastic-bodied iPhone is regarded as something of a misstep by Apple, its second shot may be affordable enough to make a dent in the mid-range smartphone market, an area in which Apple does not currently figure extensively.

We’ll bring you more on the iPhone 6C as we get it. In the mean time, treat this (like any rumour story) with a pinch of salt, and check out our iPhone 6s preview here.
