Hover the cursor over any app and you get a nice fat preview of what it offers too.&nbsp; Also, the Bean Bird that helps with the usually mundane setup process is pretty cute.</p> </div> </div> </div> <div class="field field-type-filefield field-field-image"> <div class="field-label">Image #1:&nbsp;</div> <div class="field-items"> <div class="field-item odd"> <img class="imagefield imagefield-field_image" width="567" height="425" title="Look at those curves and the size of the TV!" alt="5 interesting LG innovations to keep an eye out for" src="http://images.cdn.stuff.tv/sites/stuff.tv/files/telly.jpg?1397025580" /> </div> </div> </div> <div class="field field-type-filefield field-field-image-2"> <div class="field-label">Image #2:&nbsp;</div> <div class="field-items"> <div class="field-item odd"> <img class="imagefield imagefield-field_image_2" width="5472" height="3648" title="Such a sight for sore eyes, these LG TVs." alt="5 interesting LG innovations to keep an eye out for" src="http://images.cdn.stuff.tv/sites/stuff.tv/files/SAM_0081.JPG?1397025580" /> </div> </div> </div> <div class="field field-type-filefield field-field-image-3"> <div class="field-label">Image #3:&nbsp;</div> <div class="field-items"> <div class="field-item odd"> <img class="imagefield imagefield-field_image_3" width="5472" height="3648" title="Such a sight for sore eyes, these LG TVs." alt="5 interesting LG innovations to keep an eye out for" src="http://images.cdn.stuff.tv/sites/stuff.tv/files/SAM_0078.JPG?1397025580" /> </div> </div> </div> <div class="field field-type-filefield field-field-image-4"> <div class="field-label">Image #4:&nbsp;</div> <div class="field-items"> <div class="field-item odd"> <img class="imagefield imagefield-field_image_4" width="5472" height="3648" title="Such a sight for sore eyes, these LG TVs." alt="5 interesting LG innovations to keep an eye out for" src="http://images.cdn.stuff.tv/sites/stuff.tv/files/SAM_0091.JPG?1397025580" /> </div> </div> </div> <div class="field field-type-number-integer field-field-make-full-width"> <div class="field-label">Make full width:&nbsp;</div> <div class="field-items"> <div class="field-item odd"> Do not make full width </div> </div> </div> </fieldset> <fieldset class="content-multigroup-wrapper content-multigroup-3"><div class="field field-type-number-integer field-field-section-paginate"> <div class="field-label">Paginate on this section:&nbsp;</div> <div class="field-items"> <div class="field-item odd"> Don't paginate </div> </div> </div> <div class="field field-type-text field-field-title"> <div class="field-label">Title:&nbsp;</div> <div class="field-items"> <div class="field-item odd"> Hom-Bot Square </div> </div> </div> <div class="field field-type-text field-field-body"> <div class="field-label">Body:&nbsp;</div> <div class="field-items"> <div class="field-item odd"> <p>No more frustrating game of real-life Tetris when you angle your vacuum cleaner into those awkward corners. Its plastic build does let it down though, and its rear power and volume button placements might not be everyone&#39;s cup of tea, although we rather like them where they are.</p> <p>The G2&#39;s footprint is substantially smaller than the M8&#39;s though, thanks to its wonderfully slim bezels. The G2&#39;s 13MP camera is excellent and it takes detailed photos in both light and dark conditions, helped greatly by its optical image stabilisation.</p> <p>The One M8 on the other hand mixes things up a bit. For starters, it&#39;s kept the same 4.1 UltraPixel camera that graced the original One. But it&#39;s got company.</p> <p>A second lens above the main module records depth information, which means that you can focus on different subjects in a shot after you&#39;ve taken it, Lytro-style.</p> <p>The <a href="http://www.stuff.tv/galaxy-s5/samsung-galaxy-s5/review" target="_blank">Galaxy S5</a> and <a href="http://www.stuff.tv/g-pro-2/mwc-2014/lg-g-pro-2-hands-review/feature" target="_blank">LG G Pro 2</a> achieve this post-shot refocusing effect with software, but the One M8&#39;s dedicated second lens means that it excels in this area.</p> <p><iframe class="vine-embed" frameborder="0" height="400" src="https://vine.co/v/MO7QbtitUa1/embed/simple" width="400"></iframe></p> <p>The G2 lacks this functionality completely and it&#39;s a big win for the M8, assuming it&#39;s a feature you plan on using regularly. Even if you think it&#39;s a gimmick, it could come in very handy for photos which accidentally have the intended subject out of focus.</p> <p>The One M8 also performs well in lowlight conditions, and its dual-LED flash provides more realistic colours and skin tones, in a similar way to the flash module found on the iPhone 5s.</p> <p>The G2 does capture finer details, but unless you&#39;re planning on cropping into or printing out large photos, you&#39;re unlikely to notice any major differences when uploading photos to the likes of Facebook.</p> <p>Throw in 4K video recording and 120fps capture on the M8 (which the G2 lacks) and HTC comes out on top in the camera round.</p> <p><em>Winner:</em> <strong>HTC One (M8)</strong></p> </div> </div> </div> <div class="field field-type-filefield field-field-image"> <div class="field-label">Image #1:&nbsp;</div> <div class="field-items"> <div class="field-item odd"> <img class="imagefield imagefield-field_image" width="567" height="425" title="Double trouble" alt="Which is better? The power and volume buttons are in the same position on the rear, and the textured plastic is a big improvement over the G2&#39;s slippery plastic shell.</p> <p>If you&#39;ve ever held a G2 then you&#39;ll already know whether or not you&#39;ll get on with LG&#39;s rear button layout. For starters, it&#39;s built on the already excellent OIS (optical image stabilisation) of the G2, and its OIS+ technology promises even better performance in low light conditions.</p> <p>Like the Galaxy S5, the G Pro 2 lets you refocus on different parts of a shot after you&#39;ve taken a photo. LG calls this Magic Focus, and we were impressed with it during our hands-on time with the G Pro 2 at MWC.</p> <p>Magic Focus works by taking two different shots at different focal lengths, before letting you can tap anywhere on the screen to bring a particular area into focus.&nbsp;</p> <p>Both cameras have impressive specs and performance, but the G Pro 2&#39;s extra tricks win this round.</p> <p>Winner: LG G Pro 2</p> </div> </div> </div> <div class="field field-type-number-integer field-field-make-full-width"> <div class="field-label">Make full width:&nbsp;</div> <div class="field-items"> <div class="field-item odd"> Do not make full width </div> </div> </div> </fieldset> <fieldset class="content-multigroup-wrapper content-multigroup-4"><div class="field field-type-number-integer field-field-section-paginate"> <div class="field-label">Paginate on this section:&nbsp;</div> <div class="field-items"> <div class="field-item odd"> Don't paginate </div> </div> </div> <div class="field field-type-text field-field-title"> <div class="field-label">Title:&nbsp;</div> <div class="field-items"> <div class="field-item odd"> Power and battery life </div> </div> </div> <div class="field field-type-text field-field-body"> <div class="field-label">Body:&nbsp;</div> <div class="field-items"> <div class="field-item odd"> <p>The G Pro 2 and Note 3 both have identical quad-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 800 brains, along with 3GB of RAM to help run hordes of apps simultaneously.</p> <p>As you&#39;d expect, both phones blaze along without a problem. LG has developed the concept further, creating a new feature called Knock Code.</p> <p>Knock Code supports up to eight separate tap combinations across the G Pro 2&#39;s display, and LG reckons there&#39;s up to 80,000 potential combinations.</p> <p>It works really well, and it&#39;s a feature we wish was baked into all Android devices. Given that LG has patented the feature though, we don&#39;t expect that happening anytime soon.</p> <p>Again, this round is up to personal preference. If you&#39;re a big stylus user then it goes without saying that the Note 3 is the better choice for you.</p> <p>If you couldn&#39;t care less about tapping away on a phone with anything other than your fingers though, then the G2 will probably be the better choice.</p> <p>Both phones offer the ability to run two apps split across a single screen at once, and you can shrink down both UIs for easier one-handed use.</p> <p><em>Winner:&nbsp;</em><strong>Draw</strong></p> </div> </div> </div> <div class="field field-type-number-integer field-field-make-full-width"> <div class="field-label">Make full width:&nbsp;</div> <div class="field-items"> <div class="field-item odd"> Do not make full width </div> </div> </div> </fieldset> <fieldset class="content-multigroup-wrapper content-multigroup-7"><div class="field field-type-number-integer field-field-section-paginate"> <div class="field-label">Paginate on this section:&nbsp;</div> <div class="field-items"> <div class="field-item odd"> Don't paginate </div> </div> </div> <div class="field field-type-text field-field-title"> <div class="field-label">Title:&nbsp;</div> <div class="field-items"> <div class="field-item odd"> Initial Verdict </div> </div> </div> <div class="field field-type-text field-field-body"> <div class="field-label">Body:&nbsp;</div> <div class="field-items"> <div class="field-item odd"> <p>As you can tell by the number of draws, this is one of the closest on-paper battles we&#39;ve ever had.</p> <p>Despite being released months after the Note 3&#39;s release, The G Pro 2&#39;s insides aren&#39;t any more powerful. On paper, both devices are as speedy as each other, but they offer vastly different designs and extras.</p> <p>The S Pen sets the Note 3 apart, but unless you&#39;re really after a stylus then we think the G Pro 2 edges out ahead, thanks to its excellent Knock Code feature and extra camera tricks.</p> <p>Stay tuned for our full in-depth LG G Pro 2 review.</p> <p><strong>READ MORE:&nbsp;<a href="http://www.stuff.tv/sg/g-pro-2/mwc-2014/lg-g-pro-2-hands-review/feature" target="_blank">LG G Pro 2 hands-on review</a></strong></p> </div> </div> </div> <div class="field field-type-filefield field-field-image"> <div class="field-label">Image #1:&nbsp;</div> <div class="field-items"> <div class="field-item odd"> <img class="imagefield imagefield-field_image" width="604" height="453" title="Samsung Galaxy Note 3 vs LG G Pro 2" alt="Samsung Galaxy Note 3 vs LG G Pro 2" src="http://images.cdn.stuff.tv/sites/stuff.tv/files/g-pro-2-verdict.JPG?1395366609" /> </div> </div> </div> <div class="field field-type-number-integer field-field-make-full-width"> <div class="field-label">Make full width:&nbsp;</div> <div class="field-items"> <div class="field-item odd"> Do not make full width </div> </div> </div> </fieldset> </fieldset> <p><a href="http://www.stuff.tv/sg/samsung-galaxy-note-3-vs-lg-g-pro-2/feature" target="_blank">read more</a></p> http://www.stuff.tv/sg/samsung-galaxy-note-3-vs-lg-g-pro-2/feature#comments G Pro 2 Galaxy Note 3 LG Samsung Smartphones Thu, 20 Mar 2014 17:50:28 +0000 Tein Hee Seow 1434074 at http://www.stuff.tv LG G3 could learn your habits and adapt its behaviour accordingly http://www.stuff.tv/sg/lg-g3-could-learn-your-habits-and-adapt-itself-accordingly/news <div class="field field-type-text field-field-standfirst"> <div class="field-items"> <div class="field-item odd"> According to fresh rumours, the upcoming superphone might have built-in mind reading powers </div> </div> </div> <div class="field field-type-filefield field-field-main-image"> <div class="field-items"> <div class="field-item odd"> <img class="imagefield imagefield-field_main_image" width="940" height="705" title="LG G3 could learn your habits and adapt itself accordingly" alt="LG G3 could learn your habits and adapt itself accordingly" src="http://images.cdn.stuff.tv/sites/stuff.tv/files/images/news/lg-g2-review-main_0.JPG?1395277028" /> </div> </div> </div> <p>The<a href="http://www.stuff.tv/sg/g3/lg-g3/review" target="_blank"> LG G3</a> could become your best friend, assuming the latest rumours from Phone Arena prove to be true.</p> <p>Speaking to a source at LG, the site reports that the G3 will launch with &quot;advanced personalisation&quot; Gone is the slippery plastic backside of the S5 and tacky looking faux leather of the <a href="http://www.stuff.tv/sg/galaxy-note-3/samsung-galaxy-note-3/review" target="_blank">Galaxy Note 3</a>.</p> <p>Instead, the Note 3 has a rubbery matte dimpled polycarbonate rear panel which is wonderfully grippy, and much less likely to slip out of the hands than the slippery G2. Just try not to think about all the plaster jokes when you&#39;re holding it.</p> <p>While we&#39;re not fans of the two-tone alien blue colour, the plain Black S5 looks and feels rather smart.</p> <p>The G2 fights back with its innovative rear power and volume buttons however, and we applaud LG for cramming in a slightly larger 5.2in screen into a smaller body with super-slim bezels.</p> <p>The Galaxy S5 has another weapon in its arsenal though: IP67 waterproof and dustproof certification, meaning it&#39;ll battle through a British downpour with ease.</p> <p>Overall, this round goes to the Galaxy S5. It&#39;s got a grippier rear, and its removable cover means you&#39;ve got access to a microSD slot and swappable battery - both of which are missing from the LG G2. Throw in the fact that it&#39;s waterproof and there&#39;s not much the G2&#39;s pretty slim bezelled face can do about it.</p> <p><em>Winner:</em> <strong><em>Samsung Galaxy S5</em></strong></p> </div> </div> </div> <div class="field field-type-hcmvideofield-video field-field-brightcove-video"> <div class="field-label">Video ID/URL:&nbsp;</div> <div class="field-items"> <div class="field-item odd"> <div class="messages warning">This video is not currently supported.</div> </div> </div> </div> <div class="field field-type-filefield field-field-image"> <div class="field-label">Image #1:&nbsp;</div> <div class="field-items"> <div class="field-item odd"> <img class="imagefield imagefield-field_image" width="567" height="425" title="Samsung Galaxy S5 vs LG G2: the weigh-in " alt="Samsung Galaxy S5 vs LG G2: the weigh-in " src="http://images.cdn.stuff.tv/sites/stuff.tv/files/DSCN9966_1.JPG?1394678663" /> </div> </div> </div> <div class="field field-type-filefield field-field-image-2"> <div class="field-label">Image #2:&nbsp;</div> <div class="field-items"> <div class="field-item odd"> <img class="imagefield imagefield-field_image_2" width="567" height="425" title="Samsung Galaxy S5 vs LG G2: the weigh-in " alt="Samsung Galaxy S5 vs LG G2: the weigh-in " src="http://images.cdn.stuff.tv/sites/stuff.tv/files/SAM_6006_1.JPG?1394678663" /> </div> </div> </div> <div class="field field-type-number-integer field-field-make-full-width"> <div class="field-label">Make full width:&nbsp;</div> <div class="field-items"> <div class="field-item odd"> Do not make full width </div> </div> </div> </fieldset> <fieldset class="content-multigroup-wrapper content-multigroup-1"><div class="field field-type-number-integer field-field-section-paginate"> <div class="field-label">Paginate on this section:&nbsp;</div> <div class="field-items"> <div class="field-item odd"> Don't paginate </div> </div> </div> <div class="field field-type-text field-field-title"> <div class="field-label">Title:&nbsp;</div> <div class="field-items"> <div class="field-item odd"> Tasty extras </div> </div> </div> <div class="field field-type-text field-field-body"> <div class="field-label">Body:&nbsp;</div> <div class="field-items"> <div class="field-item odd"> <p>The Galaxy S5 brings two big features to the ring. First up is its Home button, which has an in-built fingerprint scanner.</p> <p>Swiping our fingers to lock and unlock the Galaxy S5 worked well during our hands-on review, but LG&#39;s Knock On feature (a double tap to wake up the screen) almost seems faster, as it can detect your fingers when the screen is off.</p> <p>Still, you can use your fingerprint to encrypt protect sensitive files on the Galaxy S5 and you can even use your digits to buy things online via PayPal in an instant.</p> <p>The rear of the Galaxy S5 also has a heart rate sensor. Although it&#39;s arguable how useful a feature this is on a phone (it makes more sense on a smartwatch like the <a to take advantage of.</p> <p>For pushing the boundaries and for cramming in tech into every available inch of space, the Galaxy S5 wins this round too.</p> <p><em>Winner:</em> <strong>Samsung Galaxy G2&#39;s 13MP camera and Samsung boasts that the Galaxy S5 has the world&#39;s fastest smartphone &nbsp;autofocus at up to 0.3 seconds.</p> <p>While the S5 doesn&#39;t feature the G2&#39;s impressive optical image stabilisation, it does offer Lytro-like post-shot refocusing, thanks to its ability to snap two shots at once at different focal lengths before combining them into one photo.</p> <p>The Galaxy S5&#39;s camera also has a live HDR mode which lets you see what a HDR shot or video will look like in real time.</p> <p>Throw in 4K video recording (which the G2 lacks) and it&#39;s impossible and G2 let you lock off your personal section of the phone, allowing guests to use your device without prying into your files, folders and apps.</p> <p>The G2&#39;s excellent Knock On unlock feature it&#39;s also expected to be updated with the G Pro 2&#39;s Knock Code skills which will let you tap out a pattern across the screen to unlock it.</p> <p>It worked really well when we tried it out at Mobile World Congress and we&#39;re looking forward to it landing on all of LG&#39;s major devices this year.</p> <p>The S5 however has a very impressive (on paper at least) battery saver mode which can supposedly squeeze out an extra 24 hours of battery life with only 10% charge left on the battery.</p> <p>Once activated, the menus and screen become black and white, and all apps are frozen. You can however still make and receive calls and text messages, and we can see ourselves making full use of it on a night out, stranded from any power cables.</p> <p>The Galaxy S5 also features Samsung&#39;s updated S Health app which is built into the latest version of TouchWiz. It offers detailed information on calories burned, steps taken and even calories consumed, if you can be bothered to scan in every little thing you eat all day.</p> <p>Thanks to the heart scanner on the rear you can even measure your heart rate to ensure you&#39;re not feeling too poorly. Or too excited. Or too... dead.</p> <p>Samsung&#39;s download booster mode also sounds very interesting. It&#39;s able to use both 4G and Wi-Fi connections simultaneously to download large files faster than Wi-Fi or 4G alone. If it works, it could change our Starbucks working habits for good.</p> <p><em>Winner:</em> <strong>Samsung Galaxy S5</strong></p> </div> </div> </div> <div class="field field-type-filefield field-field-image"> <div class="field-label">Image #1:&nbsp;</div> <div class="field-items"> <div class="field-item odd"> <img class="imagefield imagefield-field_image" width="567" height="425" title="Samsung Galaxy S5 vs LG G2: the weigh-in " alt="Samsung Galaxy S5 vs LG G2: the weigh-in " src="http://images.cdn.stuff.tv/sites/stuff.tv/files/DSCN9978_0.JPG?1394678663" /> </div> </div> </div> <div class="field field-type-filefield field-field-image-2"> <div class="field-label">Image #2:&nbsp;</div> <div class="field-items"> <div class="field-item odd"> <img class="imagefield imagefield-field_image_2" width="567" height="425" title="Samsung Galaxy S5 vs LG G2: the weigh-in " alt="Samsung Galaxy S5 vs LG G2: the weigh-in " src="http://images.cdn.stuff.tv/sites/stuff.tv/files/DSCN9985_0_0.JPG?1394678663" /> </div> </div> </div> <div class="field field-type-number-integer field-field-make-full-width"> <div class="field-label">Make full width:&nbsp;</div> <div class="field-items"> <div class="field-item odd"> Do not make full width </div> </div> </div> </fieldset> <fieldset class="content-multigroup-wrapper content-multigroup-6"><div class="field field-type-number-integer field-field-section-paginate"> <div class="field-label">Paginate on this section:&nbsp;</div> <div class="field-items"> <div class="field-item odd"> Don't paginate </div> </div> </div> <div class="field field-type-text field-field-title"> <div class="field-label">Title:&nbsp;</div> <div class="field-items"> <div class="field-item odd"> Initial verdict </div> </div> </div> <div class="field field-type-text field-field-body"> <div class="field-label">Body:&nbsp;</div> <div class="field-items"> <div class="field-item odd"> <p>It&#39;s no surprise to see the newer phone win this weigh in.
