What&#39;s involved? You sign up, download an app and you get in line to help test and review other apps on the App Store. Pretty neat, huh?</p> <p>Third-party developers can invite up to 1,000 people to beta test, which is more than what Apple originally announced, which was 100 beta invitations.</p> <div class="field field-type-userreference field-field-byline"> <div class="field-label">Byline:&nbsp;</div> <div class="field-items"> <div class="field-item odd"> <a href="/sg/users/erna-mahyuni" title="View user profile.">Erna Mahyuni</a> </div> </div> </div> <fieldset class="content-multigroup-group-sections"><legend>News Section</legend><fieldset class="content-multigroup-wrapper content-multigroup-0"><div class="field field-type-number-integer field-field-section-paginate"> <div class="field-label">Paginate on this section:&nbsp;</div> <div class="field-items"> <div class="field-item odd"> Don't paginate </div> </div> </div> <div class="field field-type-text field-field-body"> <div class="field-label">Body:&nbsp;</div> <div class="field-items"> <div class="field-item odd"> <p>What happens is that a developer sends out invitations, users then download the app via iTunes Connect and users then download TestFlight. iOS 8 also helps notify users when the latest build of beta apps are available, which is pretty handy compared to waiting for developer emails.</p> <p>As to when updates happen, they would take a little longer due to Apple needing to vet the apps via its Beta App Review. Still, having the Big A vet the apps first isn&#39;t necessarily a bad thing, even if it takes time.</p> <p>One of the pitfalls of Google Play is its reliance on peer review, meaning that it&#39;s all too easy for malware and shady apps to sneak into the app marketplace.</p> <p>The TestFlight Beta app is <a href="https://itunes.apple.com/us/app/testflight/id899247664?mt=8" target="_blank">free on the App Store</a> but it would be a good idea to get the lowdown on the program at the <a href="https://developer.apple.com/app-store/testflight/" target="_blank">official page</a> first.</p> <p><strong>READ MORE</strong>: <a href="http://www.stuff.tv/sg/ios/ios-apps">Check out what&#39;s new in the iOS app space</a></p> <p>[Source: <a href="http://www.maclife.com/article/news/apple_releases_testflight_app_beta_testing_public?utm_source=Social&amp;utm_medium=Twitter&amp;utm_campaign=Owned" target="_blank">Maclife</a>]</p> </div> </div> </div> <div class="field field-type-hcmvideofield-video field-field-brightcove-video"> <div class="field-label">Video ID/URL:&nbsp;</div> <div class="field-items"> <div class="field-item odd"> <div class="messages warning">This video is not currently supported.</div> </div> </div> </div> <div class="field field-type-filefield field-field-image"> <div class="field-label">Image #1:&nbsp;</div> <div class="field-items"> <div class="field-item odd"> <img class="imagefield imagefield-field_image" width="567" height="425" title="TestFlight gets you in on new iOS app betas" alt="TestFlight gets you in on new iOS app betas" src="http://images.cdn.stuff.tv/sites/stuff.tv/files/testflight%2002.jpg?1414127300" /> </div> </div> </div> <div class="field field-type-number-integer field-field-make-full-width"> <div class="field-label">Make full width:&nbsp;</div> <div class="field-items"> <div class="field-item odd"> Do not make full width </div> </div> </div> </fieldset> </fieldset> http://www.stuff.tv/sg/ios-8/testflight-gets-you-new-ios-app-betas/news#comments iOS iOS 8 iOS apps iPhone Fri, 24 Oct 2014 05:08:21 +0000 Erna Mahyuni 1451241 at http://www.stuff.tv 23 ways you're unknowingly killing your iPhone battery on iOS 8 http://www.stuff.tv/sg/18-ways-unknowingly-killing-your-iphone-battery/feature <div class="field field-type-text field-field-standfirst"> <div class="field-items"> <div class="field-item odd"> iOS 8 has some cool new features, but they also sap your battery. However, if you want to add a physical element to your login process, Google is happy to help.</p> <p>Yesterday, the company announced support for Security Key, a physical USB stick that acts as a second factor to confirm your identity when logging into a Google account via Chrome. It uses the FIDO Alliance&rsquo;s open Universal 2nd Factor (U2F) protocol, and there are varying USB options to choose from; it&rsquo;s not like you have to buy a specialized Google stick to use the functionality.</p> <p>In fact, other sites that allow for physical two-step verification can also use such USB sticks in Chrome, and Google openly states in its blog post that it hopes other competing browsers add U2F support to allow users even more flexibility going forward. So if you want that extra step in the process or don&rsquo;t want to rely on mobile connectivity for Google verification, grab a FIDO-certified U2F USB key (like Yubico&rsquo;s option above).</p> <p>[Source: <a href="http://googleonlinesecurity.blogspot.com/2014/10/strengthening-2-step-verification-with.html">Google Security</a>]</p> <p><strong>READ MORE: <a href="http://www.stuff.tv/sg/node/1440127">8 things you need to know about Android Lollipop</a></strong></p> </div> </div> </div> <div class="field field-type-hcmvideofield-video field-field-brightcove-video"> <div class="field-label">Video ID/URL:&nbsp;</div> <div class="field-items"> <div class="field-item odd"> <div class="messages warning">This video is not currently supported.</div> </div> </div> </div> <div class="field field-type-number-integer field-field-make-full-width"> <div class="field-label">Make full width:&nbsp;</div> <div class="field-items"> <div class="field-item odd"> Do not make full width </div> </div> </div> </fieldset> <fieldset class="content-multigroup-wrapper content-multigroup-1"><div class="field field-type-number-integer field-field-section-paginate"> <div class="field-label">Paginate on this section:&nbsp;</div> <div class="field-items"> <div class="field-item odd"> Don't paginate </div> </div> </div> <div class="field field-type-text field-field-title"> <div class="field-label">Title:&nbsp;</div> <div class="field-items"> <div class="field-item odd"> Xbox One digital TV tuner allows mobile streaming </div> </div> </div> <div class="field field-type-text field-field-body"> <div class="field-label">Body:&nbsp;</div> <div class="field-items"> <div class="field-item odd"> <p>As promised, Microsoft just released its Digital TV Tuner for Xbox One, allowing those without a cable or satellite subscription access to the console&rsquo;s specialized television content-enhancing functionality. Instead of the same A8 chip deployed on the iPhone 6 and 6 Plus, the iPad Air 2 will most likely get an upgraded A8X brain.</p> <div class="field field-type-userreference field-field-byline"> <div class="field-label">Byline:&nbsp;</div> <div class="field-items"> <div class="field-item odd"> <a href="/sg/users/hafizahosman" title="View user profile.">Hafizah Osman</a> </div> </div> </div> <fieldset class="content-multigroup-group-sections"><legend>News Section</legend><fieldset class="content-multigroup-wrapper content-multigroup-0"><div class="field field-type-number-integer field-field-section-paginate"> <div class="field-label">Paginate on this section:&nbsp;</div> <div class="field-items"> <div class="field-item odd"> Don't paginate </div> </div> </div> <div class="field field-type-hcmvideofield-video field-field-brightcove-video"> <div class="field-label">Video ID/URL:&nbsp;</div> <div class="field-items"> <div class="field-item odd"> <div class="messages warning">This video is not currently supported.</div> </div> </div> </div> <div class="field field-type-number-integer field-field-make-full-width"> <div class="field-label">Make full width:&nbsp;</div> <div class="field-items"> <div class="field-item odd"> Do not make full width </div> </div> </div> </fieldset> </fieldset> <p><a href="http://www.stuff.tv/sg/forget-about-a8-processor-ipad-air-2-might-get--faster-a8x-brain" target="_blank">read more</a></p> http://www.stuff.tv/sg/forget-about-a8-processor-ipad-air-2-might-get--faster-a8x-brain#comments Apple iOS iPad Air 2 Tablets Tue, 14 Oct 2014 03:19:00 +0000 Hafizah Osman 1450183 at http://www.stuff.tv Apple Pay might roll out 20 October, as part of iOS 8.1 http://www.stuff.tv/sg/apple/apple-payments-platform-might-roll-out-20-october-ios-81/news <div class="field field-type-text field-field-standfirst"> <div class="field-items"> <div class="field-item odd"> The US is expected to be able to use it first, followed by the rest of the world </div> </div> </div> <div class="field field-type-number-integer field-field-enable-hero"> <div class="field-label">Enable hero:&nbsp;</div> <div class="field-items"> <div class="field-item odd"> Enable full width image </div> </div> </div> <div class="field field-type-filefield field-field-main-image"> <div class="field-items"> <div class="field-item odd"> <img class="imagefield imagefield-field_main_image" width="604" height="453" title="The Apple payments platform might roll out 20 October with iOS 8.1 " alt="The Apple payments platform might roll out 20 October with iOS 8.1 " src="http://images.cdn.stuff.tv/sites/stuff.tv/files/images/news/ap.jpeg?1412227931" /> </div> </div> </div> <p>We recently got to know from 9to5Mac that <a href="http://www.stuff.tv/sg/apple/apple-s-already-working-major-future-ios-updates/news">Apple might be working on three major future iOS 8 updates</a> including iOS 8.1. Nintendo unfortunately, perhaps to keep people buying its devices, is unwilling to let go of what happens to be one of the most enduring game franchises of all time.</p> <p>There&#39;s some hope yet now that the official Pokémon TCG online is now availble on iOS. Sure, it&#39;s not quite the same as actually being able to do real Pokémon battles and amassing your horde of murderous but cute monsters but we&#39;ll take it for now.</p> <div class="field field-type-userreference field-field-byline"> <div class="field-label">Byline:&nbsp;</div> <div class="field-items"> <div class="field-item odd"> <a href="/sg/users/erna-mahyuni" title="View user profile.">Erna Mahyuni</a> </div> </div> </div> <fieldset class="content-multigroup-group-sections"><legend>News Section</legend><fieldset class="content-multigroup-wrapper content-multigroup-0"><div class="field field-type-number-integer field-field-section-paginate"> <div class="field-label">Paginate on this section:&nbsp;</div> <div class="field-items"> <div class="field-item odd"> Don't paginate </div> </div> </div> <div class="field field-type-text field-field-title"> <div class="field-label">Title:&nbsp;</div> <div class="field-items"> <div class="field-item odd"> Selling cards </div> </div> </div> <div class="field field-type-text field-field-body"> <div class="field-label">Body:&nbsp;</div> <div class="field-items"> <div class="field-item odd"> <p>Few games are as cash cows as much as TCGs are. Blizzard currently has a huge success on its hands with the Hearthstone online card game, with characters taken from another popular gaming franchise: Warcraft.</p> <p>What is appealing about online card games is that you can easily create decks and amass cards without needing to clear space on your shelves. It&#39;s also easier to battle with people online rather than having to go to the nearest gameshop to find likeminded gaming opponents.</p> <p>Not that the Pokémon TCG franchise wants you to stop buying real cards. No, they encourage you to do so and buying booster packs will give you codes to get digital cards or unlock promos. If you&#39;ve played the card game in real-life, the mechanics are pretty much the same -you procure a starter deck, build it up with boosters and then challenge other players to duels.</p> <p>Reduce the opponent&#39;s Pokémon hit points and you win the game! Of course it&#39;s not half as fun as the real thing (though why gamers love the notion of carrying around pocket zoos will forever be a mystery), but if you want your Pokémon and don&#39;t want a Nintendo DS, then this is the next best thing.</p> <p><strong>READ MORE</strong>: <a href="http://www.stuff.tv/sg/apple/ipad" target="_blank">If you want to know what else you can do with your iPad</a></p> <p>[Source: <a href="http://www.geek.com/games/pokemon-finally-comes-to-ipad-with-the-pokemon-tcg-1605705/" target="_blank">Geek.com</a>]</p> </div> </div> </div> <div class="field field-type-hcmvideofield-video field-field-brightcove-video"> <div class="field-label">Video ID/URL:&nbsp;</div> <div class="field-items"> <div class="field-item odd"> <div class="video-wrapper youtube-player-wrapper"> <iframe width="640" height="385" src="http://www.youtube.com/embed/9pIZkVjakcQ" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe> </div> </div> </div> </div> <div class="field field-type-number-integer field-field-make-full-width"> <div class="field-label">Make full width:&nbsp;</div> <div class="field-items"> <div class="field-item odd"> Do not make full width </div> </div> </div> </fieldset> </fieldset> http://www.stuff.tv/sg/ipad/its-pokemon-ipad-only-tcg/news#comments Apps and Games iOS iOS games iPad Wed, 01 Oct 2014 07:27:52 +0000 Erna Mahyuni 1449004 at http://www.stuff.tv The Apple Watch will most likely make it to stores in time for Valentine’s Day 2015 http://www.stuff.tv/sg/apple/apple-watch-will-most-likely-make-it-stores-time-valentine-s-day/news <div class="field field-type-text field-field-standfirst"> <div class="field-items"> <div class="field-item odd"> Nothing says &quot;be my Valentine&quot; better than giving an Apple Watch to your partner or crush </div> </div> </div> <div class="field field-type-number-integer field-field-enable-hero"> <div class="field-label">Enable hero:&nbsp;</div> <div class="field-items"> <div class="field-item odd"> Enable full width image </div> </div> </div> <div class="field field-type-filefield field-field-main-image"> <div class="field-items"> <div class="field-item odd"> <img class="imagefield imagefield-field_main_image" width="604" height="453" title="The Apple Watch will most likely make it to stores in time for Valentine’s Day " alt="The Apple Watch will most likely make it to stores in time for Valentine’s Day " src="http://images.cdn.stuff.tv/sites/stuff.tv/files/images/news/aw.jpeg?1412133517" /> </div> </div> </div> <p>We know it&#39;s a little early for Valetine&#39;s Day gifts and bookings suggestions, but we know some of you are already at it to avoid disappointment.
