New images of the HTC One (M8) posted on Chinese social network Weibo suggest the phone trounces the Samsung Galaxy S5 when it comes to processing power.
Among other things, the spy shots show the results page of the AnTuTu benchmarking app, in which the new HTC One racks up a mighty score of 38,000. The Galaxy S5, tested with AnTuTu in some similar pre-release shots, scored 35,666. The original HTC One, if you’re wondering, scored 22,678 according to GSM Arena.

The most powerful smartphone on the planet?
OK, so the difference isn’t huge, and benchmarks don’t tell the whole story of how well a phone performs (Samsung itself has been accused of rigging its phone processors to deliver better scores in popular benchmarking apps) – but the indication is there that HTC has gone all out to deliver the most powerful smartphone on the market.
Of course, there are other flagship phones waiting in the wings for launch later in the year, such as the LG G3, Google Nexus 6 and whatever Apple has in store for the iPhone 6. So even if the HTC One (M8) does turn out to be the new gold standard in smartphones upon its release, it may find itself trailing rivals before too long.
The new HTC One is due to be launched at an event on 25th March. We’ll be there, so stay tuned for all the details – and in the meantime, check out our HTC One (M8) preview.
