No news however, whether he&rsquo;s gone back to using Glass but he still returns to the centre for outpatient treatment.</p> <p>Doan believes that &ldquo;Internet addiction&rdquo; is real and that he expects to see more cases of behavioural disorders. He thinks that &ldquo;nomophobia&rdquo; or &ldquo;no-mobile-phobia&rdquo; might soon be a real thing, which would include being afraid of being out of mobile phone range. This despite Internet addiction not yet being listed under official registers of mental disorders.</p> <p>With more Glass users and soon, perhaps, more wearables that could compete with Glass, will we soon become a society so chained to our tech we need rehab from it?</p> <p>Tech should be a boon, not a bane. But we predict that wearable tech will blend into every part of our daily lives in the near future, and we&rsquo;ll most likely see it happening in the next three or four years.</p> <p><strong>READ MORE:</strong> <a href="http://www.stuff.tv/sg/glass/google-unveils-stylishish-titanium-frames-google-glass/news">Google unveils stylish(ish) Titanium frames for Google Glass </a>&nbsp;</p> <p>[Source and images: <a href="http://www.businessinsider.sg/google-glass-design-patent-2014-8/#.U_WLhcfEaRd" target="_blank">Business Insider</a>]</p> </div> </div> </div> <div class="field field-type-hcmvideofield-video field-field-brightcove-video"> <div class="field-label">Video ID/URL:&nbsp;</div> <div class="field-items"> <div class="field-item odd"> <div class="messages warning">This video is not currently supported.</div> </div> </div> </div> <div class="field field-type-filefield field-field-image"> <div class="field-label">Image #1:&nbsp;</div> <div class="field-items"> <div class="field-item odd"> <img class="imagefield imagefield-field_image" width="567" height="425" title="A patent filed by Google suggests there’s a new Glass design in the works " alt="A patent filed by Google suggests there’s a new Glass design in the works " src="http://images.cdn.stuff.tv/sites/stuff.tv/files/glass2.jpg?1408601744" /> </div> </div> </div> <div class="field field-type-number-integer field-field-make-full-width"> <div class="field-label">Make full width:&nbsp;</div> <div class="field-items"> <div class="field-item odd"> Do not make full width </div> </div> </div> </fieldset> </fieldset> <p><a href="http://www.stuff.tv/sg/glass/patent-filed-google-suggests-there-s-new-glass-design-works/news" target="_blank">read more</a></p> http://www.stuff.tv/sg/glass/patent-filed-google-suggests-there-s-new-glass-design-works/news#comments Glass Google Wearable tech Thu, 21 Aug 2014 05:57:17 +0000 Hafizah Osman 1445488 at http://www.stuff.tv Google Glass gets barcode scanning powers http://www.stuff.tv/sg/google-glass-gets-barcode-scanning-powers/news <div class="field field-type-text field-field-standfirst"> <div class="field-items"> <div class="field-item odd"> Cat food prices beamed straight into your eyeballs. In order to do that, it requires the Glass wearer to put another piece of tech on his or her head: the Neurosky&nbsp;EEG biosensor, priced at &euro;89 (around S$150), which measures brainwaves.</p> <div class="field field-type-userreference field-field-byline"> <div class="field-label">Byline:&nbsp;</div> <div class="field-items"> <div class="field-item odd"> <a href="/sg/users/sam-kieldsen" title="View user profile.">Sam Kieldsen</a> </div> </div> </div> <fieldset class="content-multigroup-group-sections"><legend>News Section</legend><fieldset class="content-multigroup-wrapper content-multigroup-0"><div class="field field-type-number-integer field-field-section-paginate"> <div class="field-label">Paginate on this section:&nbsp;</div> <div class="field-items"> <div class="field-item odd"> Don't paginate </div> </div> </div> <div class="field field-type-text field-field-title"> <div class="field-label">Title:&nbsp;</div> <div class="field-items"> <div class="field-item odd"> Psychic photography </div> </div> </div> <div class="field field-type-text field-field-body"> <div class="field-label">Body:&nbsp;</div> <div class="field-items"> <div class="field-item odd"> <p>Currently, MindRDR allows the user to take a photo through Glass then share it to Twitter or Facebook, all through mere thought. To discard the image and start again, the user can simply relax and the line will drop to the bottom of the display.</p> <p>At present, these actions are the limit of MindRDR&rsquo;s capabilities, but Chloe Kirton, creative director at the app&rsquo;s London-based developer This Place, says there&rsquo;s much more to come: &ldquo; The possibilities of Google Glass telekinesis are vast. It does 720p as compared to Google Glass&rsquo; 360p. When we tried it on, it still wasn&rsquo;t as sharp on the brightly lit show floors or in your natural line of sight, and we found ourselves constantly looking to the top right, which will make people give you a strange look on the street, as if wearing the glasses wasn&#39;t bad enough. That display is still a few pixels short of perfect, but if the specs are right, it definitely outdoes Google Glass.</p> <p dir="ltr"><strong>READ MORE:&nbsp;</strong><a href="http://www.stuff.tv/sg/glass/google-glass-gets-its-first-real-designer-frames/news">Google Glass gets its first real designer frames</a></p> </div> </div> </div> <div class="field field-type-hcmvideofield-video field-field-brightcove-video"> <div class="field-label">Video ID/URL:&nbsp;</div> <div class="field-items"> <div class="field-item odd"> <div class="messages warning">This video is not currently supported.</div> </div> </div> </div> <div class="field field-type-filefield field-field-image"> <div class="field-label">Image #1:&nbsp;</div> <div class="field-items"> <div class="field-item odd"> <img class="imagefield imagefield-field_image" width="567" height="425" title="Chunky little bugger" alt="Is the sellotaped SiME smart glass anywhere near Google Glass?" src="http://images.cdn.stuff.tv/sites/stuff.tv/files/sime.jpg?1402277865" /> </div> </div> </div> <div class="field field-type-number-integer field-field-make-full-width"> <div class="field-label">Make full width:&nbsp;</div> <div class="field-items"> <div class="field-item odd"> Do not make full width </div> </div> </div> </fieldset> <fieldset class="content-multigroup-wrapper content-multigroup-1"><div class="field field-type-number-integer field-field-section-paginate"> <div class="field-label">Paginate on this section:&nbsp;</div> <div class="field-items"> <div class="field-item odd"> Don't paginate </div> </div> </div> <div class="field field-type-text field-field-title"> <div class="field-label">Title:&nbsp;</div> <div class="field-items"> <div class="field-item odd"> Controls </div> </div> </div> <div class="field field-type-text field-field-body"> <div class="field-label">Body:&nbsp;</div> <div class="field-items"> <div class="field-item odd"> <p>For now, we get the use of the touchpad on the right side and also gesture controls in the form of your finger hovering to the side of the glasses. Yes, it&#39;ll look weird. Like you&#39;re wagging your finger at someone very naughty and invisible. But every new form of tech goes through that awkward growing up stage.</p> <p>Problem is there&#39;s a certain invisible boundary that if your finger drifts out of, the camera won&rsquo;t be able to pick up and it&rsquo;s a little difficult to coordinate at first. But once you do, use your finger as the cursor and keep it on an icon to open the app. We hear that ChipSip is potentially working with museums to bring visual elements to a largely audio-led tour system.&nbsp;</p> <p>If you want to listen to music, it doesn&rsquo;t have that bone conduction tech that Google Glass uses for audio. That means you&rsquo;ll have to plug your headphones in to watch a video.</p> <p>The biggest challenge that SiME can issue to Glass though is the price. We hear they&rsquo;d like to price it around US$500 (S$625) when it eventually gets to the consumer, as compared to Google Glass&rsquo; current US$1500 (S$1877). It&rsquo;s a steal. And would motivate more competitive pricing for consumers&#39; benefit.</p> <p><strong>READ MORE: </strong><a href="http://www.stuff.tv/sg/glass/you-don-t-need-invite-to-buy-google-glass-anymore/news">You don&#39;t need an invite to buy Google Glass anymore</a></p> </div> </div> </div> <div class="field field-type-filefield field-field-image"> <div class="field-label">Image #1:&nbsp;</div> <div class="field-items"> <div class="field-item odd"> <img class="imagefield imagefield-field_image" width="567" height="425" title="My, which thick frames it has" alt="Is the sellotaped SiME smart glass anywhere near Google Glass?" src="http://images.cdn.stuff.tv/sites/stuff.tv/files/touch.jpg?1402277865" /> </div> </div> </div> <div class="field field-type-filefield field-field-image-2"> <div class="field-label">Image #2:&nbsp;</div> <div class="field-items"> <div class="field-item odd"> <img class="imagefield imagefield-field_image_2" width="567" height="425" title="What?
