iBuyPower has just come up with a super small gaming rig option for those who are cramped for space but still want to get some fragging on.
Whether it's your tiny living room or you just want a second rig to bring along to a LAN party (they still happen), the Hexa cube looks like a real gaming companion.
While there isn't enough space inside the chassis to stuff a dual-graphic card setup or any kind of dedicated graphic card really, it doesn't mean you can't get some good performance out of this.
The Hexa relies on Intel Iris Pro 5200 graphics processing, which won't exactly beat out having an Nvidia or AMD card, but it isn't a slouch either.
Customisable gaming cube
Here's what the standard setup of a Hexa machine looks like:
- 4th Generation Intel Core i7-4770R Processor
- Intel Iris Pro 5200 Graphics
- 8GB DDR3-1600 SO-DIMM Memory
- 1TB 7200RPM Hard Drive
- Windows 8.1
That is a pretty decent mid-range desktop computing option to be sure and it starts at US$899 (RM2923).
Now the real question is, what can it play? Pretty much anything mid-to-low end, and probably the latest AAA games, albeit at medium settings. MMOs should work just fine as well as classic FPS favourites.
What's appealing about this particular setup is that it's pretty customisable. While you can't request a different processor or graphics, iBuyPower gives you other customisation options like a memory bump to 16GB, an SSD drive, options for an optical drive, SD card reader and a better wireless network card.
AMD fans will soon see a Richland A8-5557M APU with the accompanying AMD graphics, though there's no word if the system will be much cheaper than the base i7 model.
