Okay… if you don’t know who said that, you’re probably not a big Orc fan. And if I said that on a date, the guy would either think I'm a hot-geek or total dweeb!

Thing is, growing up with three brothers, I never really spent so much time playing with Barbie. We were more like Karate Kids, laying Rambo booby traps, TMNT, pellet guns, BMX etc. Boy, did we get into all sorts of trouble and we still have battle scars to prove it. During our more lucid moments, we were also big on playing PC strategy games.

Beating my brothers (and vice versa) on these games make for some of my fondest childhood memories.

We dabbled with a few games through the years, but got bored easily with some. For myself, my gaming criteria would be: a good storyline, great graphics, humor, some history, action packed… and, I do tend to lean more toward the fantasy-adventure side.

So, these are my top five:

1. Worms 2

Okay, arguably, there’s not much storyline in this game. It’s very simple and easy to learn. But there’s just something about those pink, wide-eyed cartoon worms who are probably the world’s most unlikely killers that I find massively appealing. Not to mention, it's a highly-explosive game or more aptly, high in explosives. And, seriously, who doesn’t want to get their hands on the Holy Hand Grenade?

2. The Lord of the Rings: The Battle for Middle-Earth

I’ve always been a sucker for novel-based movies and Peter Jackson's The Lord of the Rings film trilogy is no exception. One of my favorite epic fantasy movies of all time, I couldn’t resist trying out the game as well.  While I found the size and scale of the battle scenes in the game a tad disappointing as it wasn’t as grand as the film’s, I still consider this a great game. Experiencing the Lord of Rings trilogy battles for myself (well, sorta)… AWESOME!

3. Medieval Total War

Great visuals, map based strategy, exciting 3D tactical combat feature, history, politics, power play, large-scale battles, TOTAL EMPIRE DOMINATION. Enough said.

4. Starcraft: Brood War

Starcraft: Brood War is the expansion pack to the award winning real-time strategy video game StarCraft. Definitely sci-fi rather than fantasy, this is the first game I played that made me fall in love with all things Blizzard.

This game is action-packed, strategic, has outstanding sound effects and great visuals. But what really drew me in, is the plot and storyline which they kept throughout the campaign. Each unit has its own distinct personality, premium voice-acting, and they actually have many amusing things to say.
