The PC Show is, of all places, held at the Singapore Expo. Nowhere as conveniently located as Suntec City, but that won’t stop a gadget shopper from getting there.

Getting there is a challenge on its own, so we’ve decided to arm you with some practical advice to survive the onslaught from fellow bargain hunters.

Getting there

It’s not that hard to find your way to Singapore Expo. But if you really need directions, fire up Google Maps. The all-knowing navigation app will even tell you the approximate arrival and travel times for train and bus services.

If you’re taking public transport, hop onto the east-west MRT line, make a stop at Tanah Merah and switch trains towards the Expo station.

If you’re hitching a ride from bus services, remember these numbers: 12, 20, 24, 35 and 38. Again, you can rely on Google Maps to figure out the connecting services and routes of these services.

Parking tips

Singapore Expo’s parking charges start from S$3.20 for the first two hours. So plan your time wisely, buy whatever you need and get out before the next S$1.50 per half hour block kicks in.

Here’s a secret - more parking lots are available at the other end of Singapore Expo. Access it via Somapah Road, which is just a few halls away. A five-minute walk is less agonising than spending more than 15 minutes hunting for a vacant lot just to be a little bit nearer to Halls 5 and 6.

Alternatively, more lots are available at nearby shopping mall Changi City Point, which is also a five-minute walk to the PC show. It’s cheaper too, costing S$2.50 for the first two hours and S$1.20 for every subsequent half-hour.

Plan your route

Take a good look at the floor plan, identify where you can get that camera, smartphone or tablet and plan your route before heading down. Always start with the smallest item, and move on up to the final big item just before you leave.

Want to stay within your budget? Stay on the path, do not be lured by more bargains along the way and deviate from your planned route.

Don’t bring the kids along

It’s noisy. It’s crowded. Your kids won't survive the crowd. They’ll fuss, they’ll cry and they won’t last an hour. And neither will you.

Eat before you head to the PC Show

It’s a jungle out there at Singapore Expo. Especially when queues at the food outlets become ridiculously long. Our advice - have a heavy brunch, shop till you’re hungry, then leave a few hours before closing time to avoid the exiting crowd.

Divide and conquer

Gather like-minded friends and split yourselves across the halls on a quest to find the best bargains. Even the most eagle-eyed person will miss some deals, especially the hourly deals that are being announced at the booths.

Set up a group chat on WhatsApp, WeChat, Line or whatever messaging service you prefer. If you see a not-to-be-missed deal, be a good chap and send an alert to the group. Remember, sharing is caring.
