Vloggers rejoice! Canon's Legria Mini lands in Singapore

The one-man studio will definitely please local vloggers while four other new Canon snappers ought to get them even more trigger happy

Be it celestial bodies or restless ones, Canon's updated arsenal of eyes will help you focus in on the right elements.

LEGRIA Mini - the default camcorder for the one-man show

We know what you’re thinking, but camcorders have not lost their appeal. At least, not when they come as portable and professional as the Legria Mini. Vloggers, take heed.

Users can shoot in a cramped space, and still get most of everyone - limbs intact. The Mini captures wide perspective (170-degree view for photo and 160-degree in video) with the aid of its ultra-wide angle f/2.8 lens.

Sound is recorded via a built-in stereo microphone and can be boosted in a series of setting options including the usual suspects like Standard, Music, Speech, Noise Suppression, as well as the rather hippie-sounding Forest and Birds setting.

For discrete filming in public, prop it up on its built-in stand or try unorthodox mind-bending angles with its Vari-angle screen. No matter the method, the Legria Mini is flexible enough to offer users a fresh perspective...if your tired old body is willing.

The lithe gadget is all of 160g and packs so flats that it could cause your wallet some identity anxiety. It folds its 2.7-inch touch-screen monitor and perch away to fit easily in your back pocket for filming vlogs on the go.

The Legria Mini is available at $429.

Those who are looking for a new camera to capture year-end festivities, you’re in luck. Canon’s just bumped out four contenders for your money. Don’t worry, they suit every budget.

For the stargazers out there, there's the PowerShot G16 and PowerShot S120 (successors to the beloved PowerShot G15 and S110) are two powerful prosumer compacts that are privvy to a new specialised feature called Star mode. There are three idiot-proof settings - Star Nightscape, Star Trails and Star Time-lapse movie - and you can start working on those Nat Geo type shots.

The two cameras pack a DIGIC 6 imaging processor and 12.1-megapixel CMOS sensor on top of f/1.8 lens and 5x optical zoom (expandable to 10x with ZoomPlus). They can also take normal pictures if you're wondering.

Those looking to get cozy with their photography subjects will be pleased with what the PowerShot SX510 HS and SX170 have to offer. Backed up with DIGIC 4 image processors, they allow snappers to zoom in up to 30x on the action, and get even closer in macro mode, with the PowerShot SX 510 HS’s zero cm minimum focusing distance. There's also Zoom Framing Assist button to track and keep their subject in frame even when it draws nearer.

The PowerShot G16, S120 and SX510 HS are WiFi-enabled so speedy postings of your food or whatever starry scene can be done almost immediately.

The PowerShot SX510 HS and SX170 IS are priced $399 and $249 respectively, while the PowerShot G16 costs $699 and is expected in stores end of September. As for the PowerShot S120, we’ll have to wait till it’s out in mid-October to get word on its price. Stay tuned.
