The built-in battery lasts for up to three hours, and the camera attaches to clothing using a magnetic backplate.</p> <p>The camera comes with USB 2.0 for charging and footage transfer, as well as Wi-Fi and Bluetooth. However, on the W850 it&#39;s difficult to see why you&#39;d want the small, swivelly, screen-side camera. It only records VGA, and only as a window in the main camera&rsquo;s footage, so you can&rsquo;t switch between cameras (which would be handy for shooting an interview, or a wide and close angle on a subject). So in our brief experience we got two kinds of results from the two-camera camcorder: either a confusingly small picture of something far away or a deeply unflattering, chin-filled close-up of the shooter&#39;s face. If you can think of any film that would be improved by having your peering, distracted mug superimposed on a quarter of the screen, this is the feature for you.&nbsp;</p> <p class="p1">The tiny camera on the side may be about as useful as a waterproof teabag, but the W850&rsquo;s main eye is a feat of precision engineering. While most camcorders have two lens groups (a zoom group and a focus group), the W850 has four. The two extra zoom groups allow for a 50x optical zoom in a body the size and weight of a small hot dog (bun included). It can shoot 1080p slow motion (half-speed), and it can switch to slo-mo without breaking recording. While it&rsquo;s light it feels fairly sturdy and at first squint the footage looked impressive, especially zoomed right in.&nbsp;</p> <p class="p1">While pawing the W850 we were also shown an interesting accessory, the VW-CTR1 Pan Tilt Cradle. Mount your Panasonic camcorder on this robotic tripod (the W850 or its more affordable sibling, the V550) and you can shoot from anywhere, using your phone or PC. If you&rsquo;re a private investigator, a spy or a keen birdwatcher, this could be worth a (surreptitious) look.</p> </div> </div> </div> <div class="field field-type-hcmvideofield-video field-field-brightcove-video"> <div class="field-label">Video ID/URL:&nbsp;</div> <div class="field-items"> <div class="field-item odd"> <div class="messages warning">This video is not currently supported.</div> </div> </div> </div> <div class="field field-type-filefield field-field-image"> <div class="field-label">Image #1:&nbsp;</div> <div class="field-items"> <div class="field-item odd"> <img class="imagefield imagefield-field_image" width="1200" height="900" alt="" src="http://images.cdn.stuff.tv/sites/stuff.tv/files/IMG_2231.JPG?1389069126" /> </div> </div> </div> <div class="field field-type-filefield field-field-image-2"> <div class="field-label">Image #2:&nbsp;</div> <div class="field-items"> <div class="field-item odd"> <img class="imagefield imagefield-field_image_2" width="1200" height="900" title="It tilts, it pans, it connects to the cloud." alt="" src="http://images.cdn.stuff.tv/sites/stuff.tv/files/IMG_2221.JPG?1389069126" /> </div> </div> </div> <div class="field field-type-filefield field-field-image-3"> <div class="field-label">Image #3:&nbsp;</div> <div class="field-items"> <div class="field-item odd"> <img class="imagefield imagefield-field_image_3" width="1200" height="900" alt="" src="http://images.cdn.stuff.tv/sites/stuff.tv/files/W850_K_slant_LCD.jpg?1389069126" /> </div> </div> </div> <div class="field field-type-number-integer field-field-make-full-width"> <div class="field-label">Make full width:&nbsp;</div> <div class="field-items"> <div class="field-item odd"> Do not make full width </div> </div> </div> </fieldset> </fieldset> <p><a href="http://www.stuff.tv/sg/panasonic/hands-review-panasonic-w850-camcorder/news" target="_blank">read more</a></p> http://www.stuff.tv/sg/panasonic/hands-review-panasonic-w850-camcorder/news#comments Camcorders CES 2014 Panasonic Mon, 06 Jan 2014 16:49:54 +0000 Tein Hee Seow 1430797 at http://www.stuff.tv 4K at IFA 2013: all the highlights http://www.stuff.tv/sg/ifa-2013/4k-ifa-2013-all-highlights/news <div class="field field-type-text field-field-standfirst"> <div class="field-items"> <div class="field-item odd"> A look at the finest Ultra HD gear this year’s show had to offer </div> </div> </div> <div class="field field-type-filefield field-field-main-image"> <div class="field-items"> <div class="field-item odd"> <img class="imagefield imagefield-field_main_image" width="1200" height="900" title="4K at IFA 2013: all the highlights" alt="4K at IFA 2013: all the highlights" src="http://images.cdn.stuff.tv/sites/stuff.tv/files/images/news/LG_ULTRA_HD_OLED_TV_01.jpg?1386624512" /> </div> </div> </div> <p>Ultra HD video has been a major theme at this year’s <a href="http://www.stuff.tv/sg/ifa-2013" target="_blank">IFA</a>, with each of the major manufacturers pulling the wraps off at least one killer 4K-compatible product. So why isn't this a five-star review? It's the Panasonic's 55-minute battery life that holds it back. That's not a deal-breaker – you can always pack a few spares or fork out for a bigger battery – but we'd like it to have more stamina straight out of the box. Otherwise the HC-V720 is a superb performer</p> <p>Review by <a href="https://plus.google.com/106422809643177538618#106422809643177538618/posts">Tony Horgan</a>.</p> </div> </div> </div> <div class="field field-type-number-integer field-field-make-full-width"> <div class="field-label">Make full width:&nbsp;</div> <div class="field-items"> <div class="field-item odd"> Do not make full width </div> </div> </div> </fieldset> </fieldset> <fieldset class="content-multigroup-group-review-rating"><legend>Review Rating</legend><fieldset class="content-multigroup-wrapper content-multigroup-0"><div class="field field-type-content-taxonomy field-field-review-type"> <div class="field-label">Type:&nbsp;</div> <div class="field-items"> <div class="field-item odd"> video </div> </div> </div> <div class="field field-type-number-integer field-field-review-score"> <div class="field-label">Score:&nbsp;</div> <div class="field-items"> <div class="field-item odd"> 9 </div> </div> </div> </fieldset> <fieldset class="content-multigroup-wrapper content-multigroup-1"><div class="field field-type-content-taxonomy field-field-review-type"> <div class="field-label">Type:&nbsp;</div> <div class="field-items"> <div class="field-item odd"> build </div> </div> </div> <div class="field field-type-number-integer field-field-review-score"> <div class="field-label">Score:&nbsp;</div> <div class="field-items"> <div class="field-item odd"> 8 </div> </div> </div> </fieldset> <fieldset class="content-multigroup-wrapper content-multigroup-2"><div class="field field-type-content-taxonomy field-field-review-type"> <div class="field-label">Type:&nbsp;</div> <div class="field-items"> <div class="field-item odd"> features </div> </div> </div> <div class="field field-type-number-integer field-field-review-score"> <div class="field-label">Score:&nbsp;</div> <div class="field-items"> <div class="field-item odd"> 8 </div> </div> </div> </fieldset> </fieldset> <div class="field field-type-text field-field-verdict"> <div class="field-label">Verdict:&nbsp;</div> <div class="field-items"> <div class="field-item odd"> <p>Top marks for footage, zoom and stabilisation, but bring a spare battery</p> </div> </div> </div> <div class="field field-type-number-integer field-field-preview"> <div class="field-label">Preview:&nbsp;</div> <div class="field-items"> <div class="field-item odd"> Disabled </div> </div> </div> <div class="field field-type-text field-field-legacy-url"> <div class="field-label">Legacy URL:&nbsp;</div> <div class="field-items"> <div class="field-item odd"> /review/panasonic-hc-v720 </div> </div> </div> http://www.stuff.tv/sg/hc-v720/panasonic-hc-v720/review#comments Camcorders HC-V720 Panasonic Tue, 05 Mar 2013 16:00:00 +0000 vincent-chang 1424574 at http://www.stuff.tv GoPro Hero 3 Silver Edition http://www.stuff.tv/sg/gopro/gopro-hd-hero-3-silver-edition/review <div class="field field-type-text field-field-standfirst"> <div class="field-items"> <div class="field-item odd"> A slimmed down HD Hero 2 with Wi-Fi? It produces a flatter image that looks dull upon first inspection, but produces professional results when run through a colour grading process thanks to the extra picture information recorded.</p> </div> </div> </div> <div class="field field-type-filefield field-field-image"> <div class="field-label">Image #1:&nbsp;</div> <div class="field-items"> <div class="field-item odd"> <img class="imagefield imagefield-field_image" width="567" height="425" alt="" src="http://images.cdn.stuff.tv/sites/stuff.tv/files/gopro-hd-hero-3-silver-edition-review-hands-on-5_2_New.jpg?1383118395" /> </div> </div> </div> <div class="field field-type-number-integer field-field-make-full-width"> <div class="field-label">Make full width:&nbsp;</div> <div class="field-items"> <div class="field-item odd"> Do not make full width </div> </div> </div> </fieldset> <fieldset class="content-multigroup-wrapper content-multigroup-5"><div class="field field-type-number-integer field-field-section-paginate"> <div class="field-label">Paginate on this section:&nbsp;</div> <div class="field-items"> <div class="field-item odd"> Don't paginate </div> </div> </div> <div class="field field-type-text field-field-title"> <div class="field-label">Title:&nbsp;</div> <div class="field-items"> <div class="field-item odd"> video quality </div> </div> </div> <div class="field field-type-text field-field-body"> <div class="field-label">Body:&nbsp;</div> <div class="field-items"> <div class="field-item odd"> <p>As it’s essentially a revised&nbsp;<a href="http://www.stuff.tv/review/gopro-hd-hero-2-outdoor-edition">HD Hero 2</a>, the footage is up to the same standard as its predecessor, producing detailed 1080p footage at 30fps, or 720p at 60fps, if you’re planning to convert to slo-mo.
