What does BMW M5 ‘30 Jahre’ actually mean?
Clearly you never studied German at school; it's celebrating 30 years of the BMW M5. But all you need to know is that this special edition packs a mind-boggling 600hp (592bhp) and a head-spinning 700Nmn torque. That ensures a 0-62mph sprint time of just 3.9 seconds and a top speed of 199mph, in case you were wondering.
So why the massive power hike?
Because it’s the perfect way to celebrate 30 years of one of the most iconic super saloons ever made. The BMW M5 has long been the vehicle of choice for those wanting limousine luxury in a package that can scare a supercar – so gifting the potent 4.4-litre twin-turbocharged V8 engine with an extra 25bhp over the standard model is the least BMW engineers could do.

Can the car handle that sort of power?
It certainly can, because the '30 Jahre’ M5 is actually based on the Competition Pack version, which means it's endowed with firmer springs and dampers for improved handling, a lower ride height and faster reactions from the electro-mechanical steering system. Hopping from boardroom to a lap around Brands Hatch has never been so simple… or exciting.
How do we tell the limited edition model apart from the standard M5?
Because only 300 models will be distributed worldwide, BMW has peppered the limited edition vehicle with special ‘30 Jahre’ badges both inside and out, as well as finishing every model in matte silver with dark chrome trim accents. Oh, there’s also a set of enormous bespoke alloys throw in in for good measure.
It all sounds very expensive, how much will it cost?
Like we said, only 300 will be made available globally – so expect to part with around £82,000 (S$170,560) for this rare beast. That’s a good £10k (S$20.8K) over the standard model, but surely it’s a small price to pay for the most powerful BMW M5 ever produced?
