Apple’s major iPad event on 22 October coincides with Nokia showcase

Oh, and it's going head-to-head with Microsoft’s Surface 2 debut in the US too. Now that's killing two birds with one stone

Good old Apple, it's always ready to issue a not-so-subtle sales challenge to its competitors.

Apple has scheduled its highly anticipated keynote for the iPad line on 22 October. Coincidentally (or not), that’s the same day Nokia holds its Innovation Reinvented showcase, and the day that Microsoft Surface 2 goes on sale in the US. You might say Apple plans on killing two birds with one stone. Or maybe, it's just one bird, since Nokia and Microsoft are kind of in bed with each other.

The new Apple gadgets expected on 22 October include the iPad Mini 2 and the iPad 5. We also have our fingers crossed for a never-seen-before super-sized iPad sub-species. Fortunately, the tablets won’t be hogging the limelight; the Mac line and OS X Mavericks are rumoured to get some precious airtime too.

iFanatics, remember to draw a big red heart, or perhaps an apple, on your calendar. Since the big reveal is almost two weeks away, there’s plenty of time for you to make retirement plans for your elderly tablet and stuff that piggy bank of yours for the upcoming Christmas rush.
