Apple at the time released a comical commercial showing how, yes, you could still reach every part of the screen with a thumb.

If you had a big enough thumb. And quite large hands. And didn’t really care about cramp. But the iPhone 5 form-factor never offered the same level of comfort as its predecessor, even if it did provide a bit more screen real estate.

But now the high end of the market – the profitable bit Apple loves so much – is galloping towards ever-larger screens, and the iPhone’s set to follow.

I assume people’s infatuation with huge smartphones is driven by wanting just one device to be a computer for everything. The iPhone 6 body has leaked countless times over the past year in various forms, and now actual (and apparently genuine) production cases have made their way into the hands of online tech aficionados.

The video above, courtesy of YouTube user iCrackUriDevice, shows off one of these rear cases, and it clearly shows off Apple's new design in all its glory.

It's immediately obvious that the iPhone 6 will likely arrive with a bigger screen. The case is larger than the iPhone 5s, and its thinner, with a much rounder design.

One big change is the relocation of the power button from the top to the right hand side, where it will be easily accessible with your thumb, Samsung Galaxy-style.

Looking at the rear, the pill-shaped flash cutout has been replaced by a circular one, suggesting that Apple has either ditched its dual two-tone LED flash, or it's managed to cram both LEDs into a circular space.

The volume buttons however, have appeared to do the reverse. They are now a thinner pill shape, falling in line with the iPod Touch, as opposed to the circular buttons currently found on the iPhone 5s.

Looking at the internals of the case, we can see a slight recess over the Apple logo cutout. The system is much more secure than magnetic attachment, and if if true, the iPhone 6 will be even more of a formidable pocket camera than the iPhone 5s already is.

One month after that, Chinese analyst Sun Chang Xu stated that the iPhone 6's camera will increase its 1.5µ pixel size to 1.7µ. That's close to the HTC One (M8)'s 2µ pixel size – the much-touted "Ultrapixel" camera that's designed to excel at low-light shooting. It’ll also allow for a longer shutter speed, which will result in more light being captured, with less blur to boot. We've already seen benefits of this system in devices like the LG G3.

Analysts from Pacific Crest Securities believe that the OIS tech will be limited to the larger 5.5in iPhone 6 model, which could be due to supply constraints, or Apple could simply be releasing the larger model as its flagship device.

Update 08/08/14: Feld & Volk's photos also show off a protruding camera lens, supporting previous rumours. All previous versions of iOS have debuted with a new bit of hardware, and given that we know iOS 8 will be out in the autumn, it stands to reason that it will arrive on the iPhone 6.

So what's new about it? Rather a lot, actually.

For starters, iOS 8 will mark a major break with the past for Apple, in that third-party apps will have greater access to the OS' inner workings. You'll now be able to install third-party widgets into the Notification Centre, add third-party keyboards such as Swype and SwiftKey.

Apps will also be able to install extensions within other apps. So, for instance, tapping on an image within Apple's Photos apps will give you the option to apply filters from other photography apps you may have installed.

They'll even be able to work with Touch ID, so the possibility of paying for an eBay purchase with the tap of a finger is now very real. But, because of the way Apple will still control security, third-party apps won't themselves have access to your fingerprint or other sensitive info - so you won't need to worry about your data being stolen.

As has long been rumoured, iOS 8 will also see the arrival of a Health app. It'll work with the new HealthKit tool for devs and will collect data from all of your third-party health and fitness apps, syncing and presenting it all in the one place.

Even without any hardware developments, Health could prove a very useful app. Health and fitness trackers are notoriously bad at working well with each other, meaning that you usually have to go into several apps in order to view all of your data. Apple's solution could put an end to this, and big partners such as Nike are already on board.

That said, we wouldn't be surprised to see Apple include a hardware feature or two to make the most of the new app. The iPhone 5s' M7 motion co-processor is already capable of tracking and analysing movement data, but if the iPhone 6 included a heart-rate monitor such as the one on the Samsung Galaxy S5, that would give it greater powers. Or maybe that's something that will feature on the fabled iWatch...

Gaming should be big news on the iPhone 6. As well as having a larger, more finger-friendly screen and more powerful processor, it'll also gain new skills via iOS 8. Apple's invented a new programming language, called Swift, and a developer tool called Metal, and together they should bring console-quality graphics to the iPhone.

At WWDC, Apple showed off a demo of a game called Zen Garden, which looked seriously nice. The App Store is also being reworked to make it easier to find the best games (and apps in general), and we expect big releases to arrive with iOS 8 in the autumn.

And then there's Continuity. That's Apple's name for a raft of services which link your iPhone to your iPad and your Mac, so long as it's running the new OS X Yosemite (which will also debut in the autumn). Chief among them is Handoff, which will let you start a task on one device and continue it on another. For instance you could tap out half an email on your iPhone, then stroll over to your Mac and with a single click on the Mail icon, finish it off there. You'll also be able to pick up phone calls on your Mac using your iPhone's connection, or create a hot spot with a single click when you don't have any Wi-Fi.

And we could go on: iCloud Drive will bring Dropbox-like document storage and syncing to iOS; Family Sharing will enable you to share iTunes and App Store purchases with up to six family members; HomeKit will let Apple control all of your home-automation gadgets; mail and messaging will get new abilities; Siri will be smarter; Photos will be synced across devices... But this is an iPhone 6 preview, so we'll say no more about iOS 8, except that you'll get a full analysis of it in our iOS 8 preview.

READ MORE: iOS 8 preview - everything you need to know about Apple's new mobile OS

READ MORE: Apple Mac OS X Yosemite preview

Image #1:

Image #2:

Image #3:

Image #4:

Make full width:

Do not make full width

</fieldset> <fieldset class="content-multigroup-wrapper content-multigroup-15">

Paginate on this section:

Don't paginate

Title:

PRICE AND RELEASE DATE

Body:

We expect the iPhone 6 models to launch with the same price tags as their iPhone 5s counterparts.

Apple is reportedly looking to avoid any chance of iPhone 6 shortages by ensuring some 70 to 80 million units are ready to be sold this year alone. Apple has already met with Thai officials about the disclosure which has pretty much confirmed the rumour that the next iPhone launch will see not one, but two new phones from Apple.

Byline:

Erna Mahyuni

<fieldset class="content-multigroup-group-sections"><legend>News Section</legend><fieldset class="content-multigroup-wrapper content-multigroup-0">

Paginate on this section:

Don't paginate

Title:

Official Tweet leaks

Body:

The tweet by Takorn Tantasith, Secretary General of the National Broadcasting and Telecommunications Commission (NBTC) (roughly translated) only stated that the iPhone 6 had been approved for sale.

No information besides the model numbers (A1586 and A1524) were released but Apple is still upset, saying the announcement released confidential information. Tantasith defended his move saying there was nothing that could be called a trade secret that was leaked, defending his action as a way to protect consumers.

The good news for Thai Apple users is that the 'leak' will not affect Apple's plans to sell the iPhone in the country. So it does look as though besides Singapore, Thailand might be another Asian country besides Hong Kong and perhaps China to see the iPhone 6 first. There's some slim hope for Malaysia but it's far likelier that the country will be in the second wave.

Seeing that both models were approved in Thailand, then it's pretty much certain that Apple will be pushing out both the new phone models at the same time. 9 September looks to be the official launch date and we'll be sure to keep you updated.

READ It could also be tasked to run in the background and wait for a voice command like the “Hey, Siri” activation in the upcoming iOS 8.

In some pages, the icon for ‘Siri’ is on the dock, telling the user it's active and ready. It will have the same input/response cycle with the Siri of iOS. However, with the additional computing power of a desktop, more advanced operations may be carried out.

An interesting application will be its use as a literal assistant which is titled “Using Digital Assistant as Third Hand” on the patent. Apple notes that multitasking functionality is somewhat limited on current desktops, restricted to one window at a time.

To ensure unbroken focus, let’s say, while writing an article for an online publication, you may need to change windows to your web browser to search for pertinent pictures. The new virtual assistant allows you to simply ask it for help and it will automatically feed you results, and you won't need to switch from your text editor.

This feature is still far from ready for public consumption unfortunately.
