Xiaomi’s got more tech goodies in store for us, and they’re launching very soon

It could be unveiling one or more devices made of steel on 22 July

Xiaomi’s invading the budget devices space one model at a time, or maybe even more if we’re lucky.

The Chinese electronics company’s president and co-founder, Bin Lin, has put up a product announcement teaser on his Facebook page, which has subsequently been shared on Xiaomi Singapore’s Facebook site.

What it shows is an image of a massive numeric four (4), along with some very minimal information to go with it – “the artistic journey of one steel plate,” it stated. Lin also declared the “story” will be told on 22 July, at Xiaomi’s annual product launch event in Beijing.

The most obvious choice

We’ve got our bets on the unveiling of the Xiaomi Mi4, since GSM Insider spotted a leaked image of an unidentified smartphone in a Chinese manufacturing plant just days ago. If the rumours are true, the device will have thin bezels and a better camera than the rest of its mobile army. The purported Mi3 S is also expected to launch then.

One thing’s for sure – it’s going to be made from steel, which means it could be priced more than the rest of its plastic clad models. And just because it’s launching in Beijing on 22 July doesn’t mean it’s going to be available in Singapore then. We expect it to take a while before it reaches our shores.

More after the break...

There's one for all

Xiaomi’s not forgetting its Mi3 Singapore fans too. If you own one, congratulations, because the company’s rolling out the Android 4.4 KitKat update (aka MIUI ROM 4.5.9) at the end of this month; definitely an upgrade from the Android 4.3 Jelly Bean OS it’s currently on.

In the meantime, you can also go happy and try purchasing Xiaomi’s Redmi Note and 1S. The company’s having yet another lunchtime sale, this time on 15 July at 12pm. There will be 5000 sets up for grabs each but you have to be on standby – remember, the last wave saw the same number of Redmi Notes disappear in 42 seconds.
