Here’s a Xiaomi rumour you need to know before product launch tomorrow

According to this leak, the alleged Mi4 won’t be made of steel

It’s only hours to Xiaomi’s annual product launch event in Beijing and there’s already yet another product leak speculating what the Chinese electronics vendor has in store for us tomorrow.

Here’s a disclaimer. If this one little piece of rumour turns out to be true, it could crash your expectations and leave some of you totally bummed. A bunch of leaked pictures from Weibo show the purported Mi4, supporting some other speculations that have been floating around the industry.

But if you’ve been banking on what Xiaomi’s president and co-founder, Bin Lin, teased on his Facebook page – of telling “ the artistic journey of one steel plate” – which many including us have concluded is the Mi4 made out of steel, we could be wrong.

According to the source, the company is going to unveil the Mi4 but it won’t be rolled out of steel. Instead, it’s going to sport a plastic material that imitates the look of metal, probably similar to what LG’s created for the G3.

Is it this or that?

Also, the specs it’s claiming differs from what was reported on Xiaomiworld.

Weibo says this device will boast a 5in touchscreen with 1080p resolution instead of a 5.5in 2K quad HD display, a 5MP front camera instead of an 8MP front-facing shooter, and powered by the Qualcomm Snapdragon 801 chipset instead of the Qualcomm Snapdragon 800 chip.

It’s also said to have LTE support, a 13MP back camera, 3GB of RAM and 16GB of built-in storage space. That’s all we have for now, but watch this space tomorrow to quell your query on what exactly Xiaomi launches.
