For years, movie makers have dazzled us and made the impossible happen on the silver screen.
This year, we’ve seen the coldness of space (Gravity, Star Trek Into Darkness), learned not to mess with a sleeping dragon (The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug), took a ride in the wild west (The Lone Ranger), and witnessed the future of unmanned drones (Iron Man 3).

Star Wars: The Original Trilogy (1977-1983)
The Force is strong with George Lucas’ space opera. Epic space battles, lightsaber duels, and Jedi Master Yoda have set the standard for future sci-fi movies, and firmly entrenched the franchise in pop culture. We're sure more than a few of you can quote the movies line-for-line.
Mind-blowing moment: Darth Vader: “No, I am your father.”
More after the break...
“In space no one can hear you scream,” says the film’s tagline. You’d definitely scream if an alien with acid blood was hell-bent on killing you, and ironically, had nowhere to run because you were in space.
Chest-bursting moment: The alien, bursting out of Kane’s chest. Aww, cute little critter, till it grows into a murderous xenomorph.
E.T. the Extra-Terrestrial (1982)
Not all aliens are crazed killers. This cute, friendly extra-terrestrial is so adorable, you’ll want him around as a friend. Especially since he can revive dead flowers.
Heartwarming moment: Flying bicycles. The stuff kids dream of.
