Samsung Galaxy Mega 5.8 and 6.3 specs leak out

If the Galaxy Note isn’t big enough for you, these forthcoming phablets might do the trick

Last week we heard the first rumblings of a Samsung Galaxy Mega range, and now some specs have leaked out into the ether.

SamMobile claims to have been informed by a source that there will be two Galaxy Mega models: one with a 5.8in screen and one with a 6.3in screen. So that puts these Android smartphones very much in the “phablet” category: bigger than the average phone and smaller than the average tablet. And notably, bigger than the Samsung Galaxy Note 2.

The report says the Galaxy Mega 5.8’s TFT screen will rock a resolution of 960 x 540, and that it’ll have a 1.4GHz dual-core processor, 1.5GB of RAM, 8MP rear camera and 2MP front camera. It will measure 164 x 83.8 x 9.7mm.

The Galaxy Mega 6.3, meanwhile, will feature a PLS screen with an HD resolution (the report doesn’t specify exactly) and a slightly beefier 1.7GHz dual-core chip, as well as 1.5GB of RAM and the same cameras as the 5.8in model. It’ll reportedly measure 167.6 x 88 x 7.9mm.

Both phones will run Android 4.1.2 or 4.2.2. Jelly Bean, according to SamMobile. Take this all with a generous helping of salt, but we’ll confirm if and when Samsung makes an official announcement.
