Looks like a Tesla Model S to me
Well, it is; this is the Rinspeed XchangE, a souped-up Tesla that Rinspeed's taking to the Geneva Motor Show. The product of the same febrile imaginations that produced the sQuba underwater car, it is just as barking mad. For one thing, it has a coffee machine.
A coffee machine. For when you want an espresso on the road. The XchangE is basically a living room on wheels; you can savour your coffee as you swivel the seats around and feast your eyes upon the 32in 4K screen in the back. Or you can just lay back and gaze at the stars through the plexiglass roof.
There must be something in my ear, because I'd swear you just said "32in 4K screen".
It's not the only display on board, either. The centre console is packed with touchscreens, from the docked Windows 8 tablet (complete with keyboard!) that serves as a media centre to the 1.2m wide information display that also pings up news updates.
More after the break...
All of that's bound to distract the driver. I mean, the government's already trying to ban Google Glass in cars.
Ah, well, Rinspeed's pitching the XchangE as the future of the driverless car. "After all," says CEO Frank M Rinderknecht, "traveling in a driverless car will no longer require me to stare at the road, but will let me spend my time in a more meaningful way."
Ah, it's one of those driverless cars.
Not exactly – Rinspeed's keeping schtum on whether they've actually kitted the XchangE out with self-driving tech. Probably not; it's a concept car, after all. But you can slide the steering wheel out of the way, when you want to kick back and enjoy the ride.
How much? And when can I buy it?
Since it's just a concept, you'll have to wait a while. And don't expect it to come cheap; that clock on the dashboard is actually a Carl F Bucherer Patravi TravelTec timepiece tucked away in an eye-wateringly expensive watch winder. Sorry.
