Is this the iPhone 6?

Apple's next-gen superphone is reportedly snapped in the wild with a super-thin design

Designer Martin Hajek has whipped together some gorgeous renders of what he believes the iPhone 6 could look like. And they’re making us drool.

Based on leaked schematics by previously reliable Japanese site Macotakara, the renders show off an iPhone that looks impossibly thin, with a body that reminds us of the existing svelte iPod Touch.

Compared to a reportedly real spy shot of an iPhone 6 leaked from inside China’s Foxconn factory, the renders and schematics appear to match the general shape and thinness of the prototype. The prototype does however ditch the render’s glass back for a full metal finish.

Apart from the shape and thickness, the prototype appears to have another thing in common with the existing iPod Touch – a protruding camera.

The iPhone 6 appears to be so thin, that the camera sticks out slightly from its body, which opens up the possibility of interchangeable lenses.

A recently published Apple patent titled "Bayonet attachment mechanisms" might sound like a military document concerned with pointy gun accessories, but it’s actually referring to a protruding camera lens which different lenses can securely screw onto.

This system is described as being preferable to a less secure magnetic one, and the lenses are able to detach if enough force is applied, which will come in handy during an accidental drop.

Finally, as if all that wasn’t enough, rumours of two new iPhone models have surfaced once again. According to Reuters’ supply chain sources, Apple is working on two new devices – a 4.7in iPhone and a larger 5.5in phablet.

The 5.5in version will apparently go into production several months after its smaller brother, due to complications arising from building the touch sensitive element directly into a larger screen.

As usual, plenty of salt should be sprinkled on all these rumours. Stay tuned for more iPhone 6 news as and when we get it.
