The Hitachi isn’t perfect but it’s not half bad either. You’d be happy taking it home to meet your mum

The Hitachi is one of the widest, heaviest TVs knocking about, but a motorised stand, and simple but elegant styling earn it a reasonable degree of aesthetic respectability – for a porker.

Colours are rich with plenty of contrast. But we’ve seen more stable pictures, and the analogue signal is noisy. The Hitachi also looks pricey next to some newer rivals.

It may not be perfect but it’s not the pits. You won’t embarrass yourself if you put this, with its S-Video, 3xScart (2 RGB), HDMI and DVI connections, in your house.
