This big wonder will give you a standard of image acceptable to all major news agencies. Using an astonishing 17-megapixel full-frame sensor, the 1Ds knocks out razor-sharp images and superbly natural colours. Even the LCD on the body features 230,000 pixels.

If you’re remotely serious about photography, this is definitely worth shelling out for, partly because it’s water resistant and sturdy thanks to the magnesium alloy body. On the shooting side, you can snap at a decent four frames per second.

In fact, there’s a long list of complex reasons why the Canon delivers such amazing images but the bottom line is: this camera makes you look like, and shoot like, a much better photographer than you actually are.
