We know how it is.
You're sitting there, checking Facebook again. Checking Reddit again. Checking BBC News again. It's been all of five minutes since you last cycled through them, and it'll be another five before you do it again. The content will be the same. You puff out your cheeks and debate actually talking to the person sitting next to you.
Don't do that. You don't need to. Here's some amazing stuff you can do instead!
Download: Google Trips
Google Trips is a tour-guide that won’t ask for tips – it gives them instead. As long as your flight and hotel details are in your Gmail account, Trips handles the rest, suggesting local hotspots that mustn’t be missed, even giving you Day Plan suggestions. It’s so clever it’s verging on clairvoyant.
Listen: Joyce Manor - Cody
Thought emo died at the turn of the century? Think again. These revivalists break the genre down to its essentials, wearing their hearts on their sleeves and riffing like their lives depend on it. Their third album once again scales the critical heights: singalong, inventive and meaningful, man.
Watch: Mascots (Netflix)
Mascots promises to be a riot. Christopher Guest, writer and star of the legendary This Is Spinal Tap, has turned his attention to the world of competitive team mascots in his established fake-umentary style. Chris O’Dowd of The IT Crowd heads up an all-star cast of brilliant comic actors.
Promoted: The best phone in the world…
… is one most people have never heard of. Stuff says the OnePlus 3 is the best phone ever – a no-compromise device with flagship performance at a bargain price – and it’s available exclusively on O2 in the UK. Click below to check out all the deals.
Play: Burly Men at Sea (Android / iOS)
After finding a mysterious map in a bottle, Steady, Hasty and Brave set sail on an exciting adventure - before immediately getting swallowed whole by a whale. This interactive storybook is playful, artistic, stylish, smart, entertaining, and ideal for sea-dogs old and young.
Play: Call of Duty: Infinite Warfare Beta (PS4 / Xbox One)
Pre-order this on PS4 and you can play it in beta from tomorrow – and what we’ve seen suggests you need to. The action is as frenetic and brutal as ever, but with a twist: space. Massive, absurd fighting in space. If there’s anything to breathe new life into the franchise, zero-gravity is it.
Watch: Attack the Block (Amazon Prime)
New to Prime is this deft combination of alien B-movie, Shaun of the Dead-esque comedy and commentary on gang culture. Originally screened in 2011, Attack the Block is Joe “Adam and Joe” Cornish’s directorial debut and John Boyega’s first on-screen outing. It’s funny, thought-provoking and packed with sci-fi goodness.
Learn: FiveThirtyEight (elections podcast)
If you’re ever going to get into American politics, this is the time to do it – and FiveThirtyEight’s main man Nate Silver is the guy to listen to. He correctly predicted the outcomes for all 50 US states in the 2012 general election, and just so happens to be a great raconteur.
