Nissan Nismo smartwatch reads your biometrics and chats to your car

Nissan leaps aboard the smartwatch bandwagon with wearable tech that's designed for drivers

The latest company to leap into the burgeoning smartwatch market is… Nissan?

Yup, the car manufacturer has unveiled its own smartwatch, the Nismo – which joins the Samsung Galaxy Gear, Sony Smartwatch 2 and Qualcomm Toq in the increasingly heated battle for your wrist.

The Nismo watch includes all the standard smartwatch features, pinging social media alerts and tracking biometric data including heart rate and body temperature. It also plays nice with your car, prompting you to put the brakes on if your heart rate's too high, as well as reminding you of scheduled maintenance dates and sending over info on road conditions.

The Nismo will be available in black, white and a black and red combo, with a lithium battery that will, Nissan claims, last seven days after charging from its micro USB port.

Will the Nismo's car connectivity be enough to make it stand out from the growing smartwatch herd? Or is this another smartwatch that's trying to do too much? We'll find out soon – the Nismo will be on display at the Frankfurt Motor Show from 10 September to 22 September.
