They look extremely similar - they&#39;re large DSLRs, but not ones with the gigantic battery that makes cameras such as the <a href="http://www.stuff.tv/nikon-d4s/review">Nikon D4S</a> look like they&#39;ve been chomping down on steroids.</p> <p>What&#39;s new in the design? Nikon has altered the grips for your right hand on the back and front a bit, making them more pronounced.</p> <p>You&#39;d need to know this, or own a <a href="http://www.stuff.tv/d800/nikon-reveals-363mp-d800-dslr/news">D800</a>, to notice, but either way the Nikon D810 offers grip firmer than the handshake of a 5ft army general with short man syndrome. It is worth noting quite how large the camera is if you&#39;re upgrading from a compact system camera or lower-end DSLR, though.</p> <p>On its own the D810 weighs 980g with battery. We tested the camera with the excellent 24-70mm f2.8 lens, which weighs about the same again. It&#39;s a hefty package, and we imagine many people eyeing-up this camera may be considering a real high-performance lens like this. However, even with the cheap, light and cheerful 50mm f1.8, you&#39;re still looking at a bulk of over a kilogram. That&#39;s as much as some laptops.</p> <p>It&#39;s also the sort of size that fills rucksacks, especially if you&#39;re going to carry around a lens or two. However, as you&#39;d hope, manual control is fantastic as a pay-off. There&#39;s a wealth of control dials and customisable function modes, and the current settings are all telegraphed with fantastic clarity through the top monochrome LCD and the optical viewfinder&#39;s OLED overlay.</p> <p>The manual control dials all have the sort of reassuring clunky thunk that fits in perfectly with the lovely shutter sound and feel that you only really get with a real DSLR.</p> <p>Build quality is fantastic, too. Aside from some plastic or rubber outer parts, the frame of the Nikon D810 is made of magnesium alloy, and it feels tough as nails. This should also help quiet any people complaining about the weight of the camera. Magnesium is harder and lighter than aluminium (although this is a magnesium-aluminium alloy).</p> <p>Get this in your hands and you know instantly: this is the real deal. And it&#39;s weatherproof, too, perfect for shooting on rainy days, as long as the lens you use is also going to be safe.</p> <p>Of course, all this applied to the Nikon D800E, and Nikon hasn&#39;t been silly enough to release a new camera without any improvements. One of the first you may notice is the new screen.</p> <p><strong>READ MORE: <a href="http://www.stuff.tv/olympus/olympus-om-d-e-m1/review">Olympus OM-D EM-1 reviewed&nbsp;</a></strong></p> </div> </div> </div> <div class="field field-type-hcmvideofield-video field-field-brightcove-video"> <div class="field-label">Video ID/URL:&nbsp;</div> <div class="field-items"> <div class="field-item odd"> <div class="messages warning">This video is not currently supported.</div> </div> </div> </div> <div class="field field-type-filefield field-field-image"> <div class="field-label">Image #1:&nbsp;</div> <div class="field-items"> <div class="field-item odd"> <img class="imagefield imagefield-field_image" width="1200" height="900" title="A rucksack filler " alt="Nikon D810 review" src="http://images.cdn.stuff.tv/sites/stuff.tv/files/d820-4.jpg?1414480516" /> </div> </div> </div> <div class="field field-type-filefield field-field-image-2"> <div class="field-label">Image #2:&nbsp;</div> <div class="field-items"> <div class="field-item odd"> <img class="imagefield imagefield-field_image_2" width="1200" height="900" title="And all-round hefty package " alt="Nikon D810 review" src="http://images.cdn.stuff.tv/sites/stuff.tv/files/d810-10.jpg?1414480516" /> </div> </div> </div> <div class="field field-type-number-integer field-field-make-full-width"> <div class="field-label">Make full width:&nbsp;</div> <div class="field-items"> <div class="field-item odd"> Do not make full width </div> </div> </div> </fieldset> <fieldset class="content-multigroup-wrapper content-multigroup-1"><div class="field field-type-number-integer field-field-section-paginate"> <div class="field-label">Paginate on this section:&nbsp;</div> <div class="field-items"> <div class="field-item odd"> Don't paginate </div> </div> </div> <div class="field field-type-text field-field-title"> <div class="field-label">Title:&nbsp;</div> <div class="field-items"> <div class="field-item odd"> Hand me the white LED </div> </div> </div> <div class="field field-type-text field-field-body"> <div class="field-label">Body:&nbsp;</div> <div class="field-items"> <div class="field-item odd"> <p>The 3.2-inch display on the back is the same size as 2012&#39;s models, but resolution has been increased from 921k dots to 1229k. Rather than a traditional increase in sharpness, Nikon has bunged an extra white subpixel into the usual red-green-blue sub pixel array.</p> <p>What this means, for the non-screen-nerds out there, is that the D810 can dramatically increase the brightness of the rear display without using loads of extra juice - white pixels are perfect for doing this. Taking a further step back, this means the rear screen can offer great outdoors visibility even on sunny days without ruining the simply excellent 1,200 shot battery life.</p> <p>While we tried the Nikon D810 out in Margate rather than Miami (yes, really), where the sun wasn&#39;t exactly dazzling, it is impressive stuff regardless. Of course, most of you will want to peer through the viewfinder 99 per cent of the time anyway. That&#39;s especially as the optical viewfinder offers a crystal clear view with an excellent read-out of what your camera&#39;s up to, settings-wise.</p> <p>The viewfinder is great, but some might say the lack of an EVF is an oversight. These sorts of impersonation viewfinders generally look a lot worse than pure optical viewfinders like the Nikon D810&#39;s but they allow things like focus peaking as they&#39;re totally digital.</p> <p>Focus peaking is where the crispy bits around in-focus objects are highlighted to make manual focusing easier but it&#39;s missing from the D810, even when the rear display is used to compose a photo. When going fully manual, you have to focus by eye a good deal more than we&#39;d like.</p> </div> </div> </div> <div class="field field-type-filefield field-field-image"> <div class="field-label">Image #1:&nbsp;</div> <div class="field-items"> <div class="field-item odd"> <img class="imagefield imagefield-field_image" width="1200" height="900" title="The viewfinder&#039;s a bit of a pretender " alt="Nikon D810 review" src="http://images.cdn.stuff.tv/sites/stuff.tv/files/d810-13.jpg?1414480516" /> </div> </div> </div> <div class="field field-type-number-integer field-field-make-full-width"> <div class="field-label">Make full width:&nbsp;</div> <div class="field-items"> <div class="field-item odd"> Do not make full width </div> </div> </div> </fieldset> <fieldset class="content-multigroup-wrapper content-multigroup-2"><div class="field field-type-number-integer field-field-section-paginate"> <div class="field-label">Paginate on this section:&nbsp;</div> <div class="field-items"> <div class="field-item odd"> Don't paginate </div> </div> </div> <div class="field field-type-text field-field-title"> <div class="field-label">Title:&nbsp;</div> <div class="field-items"> <div class="field-item odd"> Not quite features galore </div> </div> </div> <div class="field field-type-text field-field-body"> <div class="field-label">Body:&nbsp;</div> <div class="field-items"> <div class="field-item odd"> <p>There are also several other features missing from the Nikon D810 that are present in loads of cameras, including ones several orders of magnitude cheaper. You don&#39;t get Wi-Fi or 4K video recording. The former is just a niggle given how poorly Wi-Fi is normally implemented in cameras, but the lack of 4K video is a real bummer.</p> <p>The Panasonic GH4 has become a real hero among video fans because of its good 4K video capture, and not having it here is a huge missed opportunity. This camera&#39;s arch rival the <a href="http://www.stuff.tv/canon/canon-unleashes-eos-5d-mark-iii/news">Canon 5D MKIII</a> doesn&#39;t have 4K video either, but then that&#39;s two years old just like the Nikon D810&#39;s predecessors.</p> <p>Predecessors? Yep, there are two cameras that the D810 is replacing: the Nikon D800 and 800E. One has an anti-aliasing filter (the non-E model), one doesn&#39;t. Like several other recent high-end cameras, the Nikon D810 ditches the anti-aliasing filter altogether and that&#39;s actually a good thing.&nbsp;It sounds like a positive feature, and does have its uses, but it&#39;s a compromise as the filter reduces sharpness ever-so-slightly.&nbsp;</p> <p>The Nikon D810 takes both CF and SD cards, with two slots hidden under a flap. If you&#39;re going to shoot in NEF (Nikon&#39;s version of RAW), you&#39;ll want a massive memory card too, as photos can reach close to 80MB. Each. Even fine quality JPGs are 20MB or so.&nbsp;</p> <p>Such massive amounts of data is what makes the USB 3.0 port on the side pretty handy. It&#39;s not going to cause as much fuss as (missing) 4K video, but if you have a recent laptop it&#39;ll speed-up transfers without you having to take out the card.</p> <p><strong>READ MORE:</strong> <strong><a href="http://www.stuff.tv/panasonic/panasonic-lumix-gh4/review">Panasonic GH4 4K camera tested&nbsp;</a></strong></p> </div> </div> </div> <div class="field field-type-filefield field-field-image"> <div class="field-label">Image #1:&nbsp;</div> <div class="field-items"> <div class="field-item odd"> <img class="imagefield imagefield-field_image" width="1200" height="900" title="The D810 is missing a few features " alt="Nikon D810 review" src="http://images.cdn.stuff.tv/sites/stuff.tv/files/d810-14.jpg?1414480516" /> </div> </div> </div> <div class="field field-type-text field-field-box-out-title"> <div class="field-label">Box Out Title:&nbsp;</div> <div class="field-items"> <div class="field-item odd"> Nikon D810 tech specs </div> </div> </div> <div class="field field-type-text field-field-box-out-body-text"> <div class="field-label">Box Out Body Text:&nbsp;</div> <div class="field-items"> <div class="field-item odd"> <p>Sensor: 36.3MP, Full Frame, CMOS<br />Lens: F Mount<br />ISO: 64-12,800 native range<br />Flash: yes<br />Video: 1080p/60fps<br />Connectivity: miniHDMI, external mic socket, microUSB 3.0<br />Storage: SD, SDHC, SDXC, Compact Flash<br />Dimensions: 146 x 123 x 81.5mm<br />Weight: 980g (880g without battery) </p> </div> </div> </div> <div class="field field-type-number-integer field-field-make-full-width"> <div class="field-label">Make full width:&nbsp;</div> <div class="field-items"> <div class="field-item odd"> Make full width </div> </div> </div> </fieldset> <fieldset class="content-multigroup-wrapper content-multigroup-3"><div class="field field-type-number-integer field-field-section-paginate"> <div class="field-label">Paginate on this section:&nbsp;</div> <div class="field-items"> <div class="field-item odd"> Don't paginate </div> </div> </div> <div class="field field-type-text field-field-title"> <div class="field-label">Title:&nbsp;</div> <div class="field-items"> <div class="field-item odd"> Star-grade papping </div> </div> </div> <div class="field field-type-text field-field-body"> <div class="field-label">Body:&nbsp;</div> <div class="field-items"> <div class="field-item odd"> <p>And as you&#39;d hope, image quality is otherwise absolutely fantastic. Despite having the same size and resolution sensor as the older Nikon D800E, the D810 actually has a new sensor and it&#39;s one that can render absolutely loads of detail with a nice, sharp lens.</p> <p>The Nikon D810 provides really quite superb dynamic range too, meaning you get detail in bright clouds that might be overexposed in lesser cameras, for beautiful sunsets without using an HDR mode.</p> <p>There is an inbuilt HDR mode in the D810, but we honestly found it too slow to use handheld. Unless you use a tripod, you&#39;ll find clear ghosting - something smartphones use clever programming to avoid. &nbsp;</p> <p>Photos aren&#39;t going to be in a completely different league to the D800E, and we&#39;re not entirely sure it&#39;s worth the upgrade if you already own the older camera and don&#39;t make a living off your photos. And that means you can shoot in virtually any lighting condition, generally without needing a tripod for stability. As long as you don&#39;t need real pro-quality shots, that is.</p> <p>As long as you know what settings not to use, it doesn&#39;t half make shooting fairly decent shots easy.&nbsp;ISO sensitivity goes from 64 all the way up to 12,800, an absolutely huge native range that can be expanded to 32 - 51,200. Obviously, you won&#39;t want to get anywhere near the top end if you want to avoid noisy photos, but with the Nikon D810 you can push the ISO setting far more than you can with an APS-C or smaller sensor camera. Like the <a href="http://www.stuff.tv/olympus/olympus-om-d-e-m1/review">Olympus OM-D EM-1</a>, much as we love it.</p> <p>Focusing is lightning fast, and there are 51 focus points, 15 of which are cross-focus. These cross points use a team of two phase detection sensors, analysing light horizontally and vertically for even better focusing reliability.</p> <p>The Nikon D810 is very impressive on this front, although looking at the numbers the <a href="http://www.stuff.tv/canon/canon-unleashes-eos-5d-mark-iii/news">Canon 5D MKIII </a>does get you even more, with 61 points, 41 of which are cross-type points. Of course, phase detection only applies when you&#39;re using the viewfinder. Switch to Live View, which uses the rear screen as the preview window, and the D810 switches to slower contrast detection.</p> <p>Rather like the somewhat-unfriendly approach to HDR, the D810 doesn&#39;t have in-body image stabilisation. So while you can up the ISO to allow faster shutter speeds without huge underexposure, you can&#39;t indulge in slightly slower shutter speeds handheld unless you&#39;re using a lens with OIS.</p> <p>The D810&#39;s Expeed 4 processor lets you shoot at 5fps at full 36.3-megapixel resolution. That&#39;s a full frame per second more than the D800E. Of course, if you want remotely fast burst shooting you will want to invest in a super-fast card.</p> </div> </div> </div> <div class="field field-type-filefield field-field-image"> <div class="field-label">Image #1:&nbsp;</div> <div class="field-items"> <div class="field-item odd"> <img class="imagefield imagefield-field_image" width="1200" height="900" title="Plenty of light sensitivity to push " alt="Nikon D810 review" src="http://images.cdn.stuff.tv/sites/stuff.tv/files/d810-12.jpg?1414480516" /> </div> </div> </div> <div class="field field-type-filefield field-field-image-2"> <div class="field-label">Image #2:&nbsp;</div> <div class="field-items"> <div class="field-item odd"> <img class="imagefield imagefield-field_image_2" width="1600" height="900" title="Focus is lightning fast " alt="Nikon D810 review" src="http://images.cdn.stuff.tv/sites/stuff.tv/files/d810-s-6.jpg?1414480516" /> </div> </div> </div> <div class="field field-type-filefield field-field-image-3"> <div class="field-label">Image #3:&nbsp;</div> <div class="field-items"> <div class="field-item odd"> <img class="imagefield imagefield-field_image_3" width="2300" height="1347" title="With these big file sizes, cropping becomes useful " alt="Nikon D810 review" src="http://images.cdn.stuff.tv/sites/stuff.tv/files/D810-crop-1_0.jpg?1414480516" /> </div> </div> </div> <div class="field field-type-number-integer field-field-make-full-width"> <div class="field-label">Make full width:&nbsp;</div> <div class="field-items"> <div class="field-item odd"> Do not make full width </div> </div> </div> </fieldset> <fieldset class="content-multigroup-wrapper content-multigroup-5"><div class="field field-type-number-integer field-field-section-paginate"> <div class="field-label">Paginate on this section:&nbsp;</div> <div class="field-items"> <div class="field-item odd"> Don't paginate </div> </div> </div> <div class="field field-type-text field-field-title"> <div class="field-label">Title:&nbsp;</div> <div class="field-items"> <div class="field-item odd"> Nikon D810 Verdict </div> </div> </div> <div class="field field-type-text field-field-body"> <div class="field-label">Body:&nbsp;</div> <div class="field-items"> <div class="field-item odd"> <p>The Nikon D810 is a monster camera. on the market: its armoured hide means it can withstand a two-metre fall onto a hard surface. We dropped it onto a hardwood floor to test this and it suffered no ill effects bar a small chip in the paintwork &ndash; the locking latch on the battery/card door ensures that it won&rsquo;t pop open in the impact too.</p> <p>It doesn&rsquo;t stop there. Rubber sealing around the buttons and battery/SD card hatch makes the AW120 fully dust-proof and waterproof to a depth of 18m. While we didn&rsquo;t take it that far below the surface, we did subject the camera to a fairly rigorous bout of rinsing in the dishwasher. After eight solid minutes of intense spraying, it emerged in perfect working order (not to mention markedly cleaner).</p> <p>Finally, Nikon claims the camera can withstand temperatures as low as -10 degrees celsius. Even British summertime and the snowcapped peak of French mountain l&rsquo;Aiguille du Midi couldn&rsquo;t furnish us with that, but we did whack it in the freezer (substantially colder than -10, it should be said) for a few minutes. Again, it emerged unscathed.</p> <p>Aside from its powers of survival, the AW120 impresses with its size and weight: it&rsquo;s very pocket friendly, and will slip into jeans or a jacket without causing any discomfort.</p> </div> </div> </div> <div class="field field-type-hcmvideofield-video field-field-brightcove-video"> <div class="field-label">Video ID/URL:&nbsp;</div> <div class="field-items"> <div class="field-item odd"> <div class="messages warning">This video is not currently supported.</div> </div> </div> </div> <div class="field field-type-filefield field-field-image"> <div class="field-label">Image #1:&nbsp;</div> <div class="field-items"> <div class="field-item odd"> <img class="imagefield imagefield-field_image" width="1200" height="900" title="The Nikon AW120 is one tough cookie" alt="The Nikon AW120 is one tough cookie" src="http://images.cdn.stuff.tv/sites/stuff.tv/files/nikon-aw120-stones_0.jpg?1415788867" /> </div> </div> </div> <div class="field field-type-filefield field-field-image-2"> <div class="field-label">Image #2:&nbsp;</div> <div class="field-items"> <div class="field-item odd"> <img class="imagefield imagefield-field_image_2" width="1200" height="900" title="All buttons and ports are fully sealed against dust and water" alt="All buttons and ports are fully sealed against dust and water" src="http://images.cdn.stuff.tv/sites/stuff.tv/files/nikon-aw120-stones-rear.jpg?1415788867" /> </div> </div> </div> <div class="field field-type-number-integer field-field-make-full-width"> <div class="field-label">Make full width:&nbsp;</div> <div class="field-items"> <div class="field-item odd"> Do not make full width </div> </div> </div> </fieldset> <fieldset class="content-multigroup-wrapper content-multigroup-1"><div class="field field-type-number-integer field-field-section-paginate"> <div class="field-label">Paginate on this section:&nbsp;</div> <div class="field-items"> <div class="field-item odd"> Don't paginate </div> </div> </div> <div class="field field-type-text field-field-title"> <div class="field-label">Title:&nbsp;</div> <div class="field-items"> <div class="field-item odd"> Image quality </div> </div> </div> <div class="field field-type-text field-field-body"> <div class="field-label">Body:&nbsp;</div> <div class="field-items"> <div class="field-item odd"> <p>Rugged compact cameras aren&rsquo;t generally the go-to snappers for people seeking excellent photo and video quality. There&rsquo;s generally a feeling of compromise when you buy one: you&rsquo;re paying for a decent quality camera that&rsquo;s nigh-on impossible to break rather than a camera built primarily for superb picture quality. They&rsquo;re tough, but the tradeoffs are that the sensors are small, the lenses don&rsquo;t offer much in the way of zoom, the controls are somewhat stripped back etc. etc.</p> <p>The AW120 doesn&rsquo;t do much to dispel this feeling. While we found it offered the best still images out of <a href="http://www.stuff.tv/unbreakables-rugged-cameras-put-test/feature">the three tough cameras we recently reviewed</a>, it won&rsquo;t outperform or match compacts like the <a href="http://www.stuff.tv/sony/sony-cyber-shot-hx60v/review">Sony HX60V</a> or <a href="http://www.stuff.tv/fujifilm/fujifilm-x20/review">Fujifilm X20</a> (try dropping those in the bath, though). We found the metering can be a little off when you zoom in, and the low light performance (sans flash) is a tad disappointing, even with the aperture fully open at f/2.8 (while this setting is only available with the lens fully zoomed out, it&rsquo;s a sizeable upgrade from the AW110, which had a maximum aperture of f/3.9).</p> <p>That said, it has a decent (for a rugged camera) x5 optical zoom range and photos and videos taken in good lighting look lovely: detailed and clean. The HDR mode works well in tricky scenes where there&rsquo;s both bright and dark areas to expose, and full HD 1080p videos are crisp and smooth. Basically, it&rsquo;s an above average compact, and that&rsquo;s about as good as you can expect in a ruggedised model.</p> <p><strong>READ MORE: <a href="http://www.stuff.tv/unbreakables-rugged-cameras-put-test/feature">The Unbreakables: rugged cameras put to the test</a></strong></p> </div> </div> </div> <div class="field field-type-filefield field-field-image"> <div class="field-label">Image #1:&nbsp;</div> <div class="field-items"> <div class="field-item odd"> <img class="imagefield imagefield-field_image" width="1200" height="1600" title="Nikon AW120 sample image" alt="Nikon AW120 sample image" src="http://images.cdn.stuff.tv/sites/stuff.tv/files/nikon-aw120-test-main.jpg?1415788867" /> </div> </div> </div> <div class="field field-type-filefield field-field-image-2"> <div class="field-label">Image #2:&nbsp;</div> <div class="field-items"> <div class="field-item odd"> <img class="imagefield imagefield-field_image_2" width="1200" height="900" title="Nikon AW120 sample image" alt="Nikon AW120 sample image" src="http://images.cdn.stuff.tv/sites/stuff.tv/files/nikon-aw120-test-1.jpg?1415788867" /> </div> </div> </div> <div class="field field-type-filefield field-field-image-3"> <div class="field-label">Image #3:&nbsp;</div> <div class="field-items"> <div class="field-item odd"> <img class="imagefield imagefield-field_image_3" width="1200" height="900" title="Nikon AW120 sample image" alt="Nikon AW120 sample image" src="http://images.cdn.stuff.tv/sites/stuff.tv/files/nikon-aw120-test-2.jpg?1415788867" /> </div> </div> </div> <div class="field field-type-filefield field-field-image-4"> <div class="field-label">Image #4:&nbsp;</div> <div class="field-items"> <div class="field-item odd"> <img class="imagefield imagefield-field_image_4" width="4608" height="3456" title="Nikon AW120 macro sample shot" alt="Nikon AW120 macro sample shot" src="http://images.cdn.stuff.tv/sites/stuff.tv/files/nikon-aw120-macro-test.JPG?1415788867" /> </div> </div> </div> <div class="field field-type-number-integer field-field-make-full-width"> <div class="field-label">Make full width:&nbsp;</div> <div class="field-items"> <div class="field-item odd"> Do not make full width </div> </div> </div> </fieldset> <fieldset class="content-multigroup-wrapper content-multigroup-2"><div class="field field-type-number-integer field-field-section-paginate"> <div class="field-label">Paginate on this section:&nbsp;</div> <div class="field-items"> <div class="field-item odd"> Don't paginate </div> </div> </div> <div class="field field-type-text field-field-title"> <div class="field-label">Title:&nbsp;</div> <div class="field-items"> <div class="field-item odd"> GP-Yes and Why-oh-Wi-Fi </div> </div> </div> <div class="field field-type-text field-field-body"> <div class="field-label">Body:&nbsp;</div> <div class="field-items"> <div class="field-item odd"> <p>One of the main differences between the AW120 and its predecessor the AW110 is a bevy of additional sensors. The AW110 had GPS and could automatically tag photos and videos with location data, but the AW120 adds an electronic compass (so you&rsquo;ll know which way you were facing as well as where you were when you took that shot), Points of Interest (which it plots for you on a viewable map) and functionality for measuring water depth, water pressure, altitude and atmospheric pressure. That might sound overkill, not to mention a surefire way to drain the battery, but we&rsquo;re certain that a lot of adventurous shutterbugs will see them as useful. And if you&rsquo;re not one of them, you can simply turn them all off.</p> <p>There&rsquo;s also built-in Wi-Fi, which allows you to connect wirelessly to a computer or mobile device. Now, Wi-Fi on compact cameras tends to be a bit hit-and-miss, and that&rsquo;s the case here &ndash; at least as far as our experience goes. The AW120 did not want to connect to anything we tried to pair it with, and after 10 minutes of poring over the menu settings to try and work out how to remedy that we gave up in a rage. It&rsquo;s a good thing this camera is difficult to break, because we feel a lot of potential Wi-Fi users are going to be hurling it across the room after similar experiences.</p> </div> </div> </div> <div class="field field-type-filefield field-field-image"> <div class="field-label">Image #1:&nbsp;</div> <div class="field-items"> <div class="field-item odd"> <img class="imagefield imagefield-field_image" width="1200" height="900" title="The maps feature Points of Interest as well as geotagging" alt="The maps feature Points of Interest as well as geotagging" src="http://images.cdn.stuff.tv/sites/stuff.tv/files/nikon-aw120-gps.jpg?1415788867" /> </div> </div> </div> <div class="field field-type-text field-field-box-out-title"> <div class="field-label">Box Out Title:&nbsp;</div> <div class="field-items"> <div class="field-item odd"> Nikon Coolpix AW120 tech specs </div> </div> </div> <div class="field field-type-text field-field-box-out-body-text"> <div class="field-label">Box Out Body Text:&nbsp;</div> <div class="field-items"> <div class="field-item odd"> <p><strong>Sensor</strong>: 16MP CMOS</p> <p><strong>ISO range</strong>: 125-1600 (3200 and 6400 in Auto mode)</p> <p><strong>Lens</strong>: 5x optical zoom f/2.8-4.9</p> <p><strong>Screen</strong>: 3in, 921,000-dot LCD</p> <p><strong>Video</strong>: 1080p @ 30/25fps, 1080i @ 60/50fps</p> <p><strong>Connectivity</strong>: Wi-Fi, USB, micro HDMI</p> <p><strong>Dimensions</strong>: 110 x 66 x 26mm</p> <p><strong>Weight</strong>: 558g</p> </div> </div> </div> <div class="field field-type-number-integer field-field-make-full-width"> <div class="field-label">Make full width:&nbsp;</div> <div class="field-items"> <div class="field-item odd"> Do not make full width </div> </div> </div> </fieldset> <fieldset class="content-multigroup-wrapper content-multigroup-3"><div class="field field-type-number-integer field-field-section-paginate"> <div class="field-label">Paginate on this section:&nbsp;</div> <div class="field-items"> <div class="field-item odd"> Don't paginate </div> </div> </div> <div class="field field-type-text field-field-title"> <div class="field-label">Title:&nbsp;</div> <div class="field-items"> <div class="field-item odd"> Useful USB charging </div> </div> </div> <div class="field field-type-text field-field-body"> <div class="field-label">Body:&nbsp;</div> <div class="field-items"> <div class="field-item odd"> <p>The AW120 is USB rechargeable (another upgrade over its predecessor), which will mean you can more easily top up the battery in the field (solar chargers etc. will work), features an acceptably sharp screen and offers a potentially useful (if unintuitive) motion control system which could come in handy when you&rsquo;re wearing thick gloves.</p> </div> </div> </div> <div class="field field-type-number-integer field-field-make-full-width"> <div class="field-label">Make full width:&nbsp;</div> <div class="field-items"> <div class="field-item odd"> Do not make full width </div> </div> </div> </fieldset> <fieldset class="content-multigroup-wrapper content-multigroup-4"><div class="field field-type-number-integer field-field-section-paginate"> <div class="field-label">Paginate on this section:&nbsp;</div> <div class="field-items"> <div class="field-item odd"> Don't paginate </div> </div> </div> <div class="field field-type-text field-field-title"> <div class="field-label">Title:&nbsp;</div> <div class="field-items"> <div class="field-item odd"> Nikon Coolpix AW120 verdict </div> </div> </div> <div class="field field-type-text field-field-body"> <div class="field-label">Body:&nbsp;</div> <div class="field-items"> <div class="field-item odd"> <p>While the AW120 is far from a perfect compact camera, it&rsquo;s important to remember that it&rsquo;s going after a different market than the image quality-focussed premium point-and-shoots that currently populate our <a href="http://www.stuff.tv/cameras/top-ten">Top Ten</a>. Put it next to a compact system camera such as the OMD-EM5 and it&#39;s something of a giant - but then it&#39;s got a bigger sensor too.</p> <p>But the Nikon does have one major trick up its sleeve when it comes to size - in the form of its kit lens. In something of a genius move, the 18-55mm VR II lens is retractable: when not in use it assumes a super-compact form, which then extends when you&#39;re ready to shoot. So while it&#39;s no smaller than most kit lenses when you&#39;re snapping away, it&#39;s considerably more compact when stowed in a bag. Good work, Nikon.</p> <p>The body is solid, if rather plasticky, and feels nice in the hand. Unfortunately, it&#39;s nowhere near as nice to operate, with a major shortage of useful controls. Presumably that&#39;s a deliberate move on Nikon&#39;s part, to make it less daunting for beginners, but the result is that it&#39;s quite difficult to actually make changes on the fly.</p> <p>So what do you get? One jog-dial, exposure compensation, Live View, record button, drive mode and a customisable function button. And other than the various menu and info buttons, that&#39;s about it. So, no dedicated ISO button, let alone white balance, metering or autofocus mode. Fair enough - it&#39;s an entry-level camera, and most people will just stick it in Auto and snap away happily. But if you&#39;re after a camera you might grow with, experiment with, you might find it frustrating.</p> <p>The rear LCD screen is a cracker - big and colourful with plenty of pixels. Given the dearth of controls, it would&#39;ve been nice if it was a touchscreen, but no such luck.&nbsp;</p> <p><strong>READ MORE: <a href="http://www.stuff.tv/sony/sony-s-new-alpha-6000-fastest-camera-world/news" target="_blank">Sony&#39;s new Alpha 6000 is the fastest camera in the world</a></strong></p> </div> </div> </div> <div class="field field-type-hcmvideofield-video field-field-brightcove-video"> <div class="field-label">Video ID/URL:&nbsp;</div> <div class="field-items"> <div class="field-item odd"> <div class="messages warning">This video is not currently supported.</div> </div> </div> </div> <div class="field field-type-filefield field-field-image"> <div class="field-label">Image #1:&nbsp;</div> <div class="field-items"> <div class="field-item odd"> <img class="imagefield imagefield-field_image" width="3883" height="2912" title="The D3300 has a small, solid body" alt="Nikon D300 DSLR camera review" src="http://images.cdn.stuff.tv/sites/stuff.tv/files/Nikon-d300-dslr-camera-review-body-004.jpg?1396925376" /> </div> </div> </div> <div class="field field-type-filefield field-field-image-2"> <div class="field-label">Image #2:&nbsp;</div> <div class="field-items"> <div class="field-item odd"> <img class="imagefield imagefield-field_image_2" width="3474" height="2606" title="With the lens retracted..." alt="Nikon D300 DSLR camera review" src="http://images.cdn.stuff.tv/sites/stuff.tv/files/Nikon-d300-dslr-camera-review-body-002.jpg?1396925376" /> </div> </div> </div> <div class="field field-type-filefield field-field-image-3"> <div class="field-label">Image #3:&nbsp;</div> <div class="field-items"> <div class="field-item odd"> <img class="imagefield imagefield-field_image_3" width="4038" height="3029" title="...and with the lens extended" alt="Nikon D300 DSLR camera review" src="http://images.cdn.stuff.tv/sites/stuff.tv/files/Nikon-d300-dslr-camera-review-body-003.jpg?1396925376" /> </div> </div> </div> <div class="field field-type-filefield field-field-image-4"> <div class="field-label">Image #4:&nbsp;</div> <div class="field-items"> <div class="field-item odd"> <img class="imagefield imagefield-field_image_4" width="1200" height="900" title="Manual controls are at a premium on the D3300" alt="Nikon D300 DSLR camera review" src="http://images.cdn.stuff.tv/sites/stuff.tv/files/Nikon-d300-dslr-camera-review-body-006.jpg?1396925376" /> </div> </div> </div> <div class="field field-type-number-integer field-field-make-full-width"> <div class="field-label">Make full width:&nbsp;</div> <div class="field-items"> <div class="field-item odd"> Do not make full width </div> </div> </div> </fieldset> <fieldset class="content-multigroup-wrapper content-multigroup-1"><div class="field field-type-number-integer field-field-section-paginate"> <div class="field-label">Paginate on this section:&nbsp;</div> <div class="field-items"> <div class="field-item odd"> Don't paginate </div> </div> </div> <div class="field field-type-text field-field-title"> <div class="field-label">Title:&nbsp;</div> <div class="field-items"> <div class="field-item odd"> Picture quality </div> </div> </div> <div class="field field-type-text field-field-body"> <div class="field-label">Body:&nbsp;</div> <div class="field-items"> <div class="field-item odd"> <p>Ah, now we&#39;re talking. The D3300 is capable of taking quite beautiful pictures, thanks in no small part to its 24.2MP CMOS sensor. Size-wise, that&#39;s as big as APS-C camera sensors get and it makes it incredibly easy to crop into pictures without losing quality. As is currently all the rage with DSLRs, the D3300 has no anti-aliasing filter, which is supposed to make for sharper snaps. It seems to have worked, because there&#39;s a fairly astonishing amount of detail to shots - check out the close-up above of the mouse&#39;s whiskers for evidence of that - and bear in mind that&#39;s with the kit lens. Stick a top-quality prime on it and results should be better still.&nbsp;</p> <p>Colours are vibrant, white balance and metering are well handled and noise is non-existent until ISO 800. Beyond that, things go downhill relatively quickly, but shots are still perfectly usable unless blown up really big right the way through to ISO 6400. At ISO 12800 there&#39;s seemingly more noise than pixels, but then again - it&#39;s ISO 12800! The mere thought would have blown your mind 5 years ago.</p> <p><strong>READ MORE: <a href="http://www.stuff.tv/fujifilm/fujifilm-x-t1/review" target="_blank">Fujifilm X-T1 review</a></strong></p> </div> </div> </div> <div class="field field-type-filefield field-field-image"> <div class="field-label">Image #1:&nbsp;</div> <div class="field-items"> <div class="field-item odd"> <img class="imagefield imagefield-field_image" width="1200" height="900" title="Colours are vibrant" alt="Nikon D300 DSLR camera review" src="http://images.cdn.stuff.tv/sites/stuff.tv/files/Nikon-d300-dslr-camera-review-stills-003.jpg?1396925376" /> </div> </div> </div> <div class="field field-type-filefield field-field-image-2"> <div class="field-label">Image #2:&nbsp;</div> <div class="field-items"> <div class="field-item odd"> <img class="imagefield imagefield-field_image_2" width="1200" height="900" title="There&#039;s plenty of detail in the mouse&#039;s fur..." alt="Nikon D300 DSLR camera review" src="http://images.cdn.stuff.tv/sites/stuff.tv/files/Nikon-d300-dslr-camera-review-stills-001.jpg?1396925376" /> </div> </div> </div> <div class="field field-type-filefield field-field-image-3"> <div class="field-label">Image #3:&nbsp;</div> <div class="field-items"> <div class="field-item odd"> <img class="imagefield imagefield-field_image_3" width="1200" height="900" title="...which is evident when you crop in on the photo" alt="Nikon D300 DSLR camera review" src="http://images.cdn.stuff.tv/sites/stuff.tv/files/Nikon-d300-dslr-camera-review-stills-002.jpg?1396925376" /> </div> </div> </div> <div class="field field-type-filefield field-field-image-4"> <div class="field-label">Image #4:&nbsp;</div> <div class="field-items"> <div class="field-item odd"> <img class="imagefield imagefield-field_image_4" width="1200" height="900" title="Metering and white balance are well controlled" alt="Nikon D300 DSLR camera review" src="http://images.cdn.stuff.tv/sites/stuff.tv/files/Nikon-d300-dslr-camera-review-stills-004.jpg?1396925376" /> </div> </div> </div> <div class="field field-type-number-integer field-field-make-full-width"> <div class="field-label">Make full width:&nbsp;</div> <div class="field-items"> <div class="field-item odd"> Do not make full width </div> </div> </div> </fieldset> <fieldset class="content-multigroup-wrapper content-multigroup-2"><div class="field field-type-number-integer field-field-section-paginate"> <div class="field-label">Paginate on this section:&nbsp;</div> <div class="field-items"> <div class="field-item odd"> Don't paginate </div> </div> </div> <div class="field field-type-text field-field-title"> <div class="field-label">Title:&nbsp;</div> <div class="field-items"> <div class="field-item odd"> Shooting star? </div> </div> </div> <div class="field field-type-text field-field-body"> <div class="field-label">Body:&nbsp;</div> <div class="field-items"> <div class="field-item odd"> <p>The D300 is unashamedly an entry-level camera, and many people who buy it will stick it in Auto mode and never try anything more complicated. And if they do that, they&#39;ll get mostly excellent pictures. We know, because we tried, spending a horribly restricted hour or two with the photographic equivalent of our hands tied behind our back. Once we&#39;d conquered our innate snapper snobbery, though, we were impressed with the shots we got. Alright, so the camera has a tendency to fire up the flash at every opportunity, rather than upping the ISO or dropping the shutter speed a little, but if that gets on your nerves there&#39;s a no-flash Auto mode.</p> <p>For those who want a little more control without doing anything so terrifying as venturing into aperture priority or manual mode, there&#39;s the Guide mode. This gives you options such as &#39;blurred background&#39; and &#39;freeze motion&#39; then explains which settings it will need to change in order to achieve the desired effect. Then changes them for you. It&#39;s a great way to take charge of your photos without having to master photography, and one which we recommend all novices spend some time with.</p> <p>Step away from entry-level use and you might be a little frustrated. Autofocus is snappy, with 11 focus points to lock on to, while a burst shooting speed of 5fps is not to be sniffed at either. But the lack of physical controls - and touchscreen - hamper your ability to react to changing conditions. Still, the &#39;i&#39; menu helps, gathering together all of the key settings on one screen for fairly simple tweaking.&nbsp;</p> <p><strong>READ MORE: <a href="http://www.stuff.tv/nikon-d4s/review" target="_blank">Nikon D4s review</a></strong></p> </div> </div> </div> <div class="field field-type-filefield field-field-image"> <div class="field-label">Image #1:&nbsp;</div> <div class="field-items"> <div class="field-item odd"> <img class="imagefield imagefield-field_image" width="1200" height="900" title="Shooting options can be accessed via the &#039;i&#039; menu" alt="Nikon D3300 review" src="http://images.cdn.stuff.tv/sites/stuff.tv/files/Nikon-d300-dslr-camera-review-stills-009.jpg?1396925376" /> </div> </div> </div> <div class="field field-type-number-integer field-field-make-full-width"> <div class="field-label">Make full width:&nbsp;</div> <div class="field-items"> <div class="field-item odd"> Do not make full width </div> </div> </div> </fieldset> <fieldset class="content-multigroup-wrapper content-multigroup-3"><div class="field field-type-number-integer field-field-section-paginate"> <div class="field-label">Paginate on this section:&nbsp;</div> <div class="field-items"> <div class="field-item odd"> Don't paginate </div> </div> </div> <div class="field field-type-text field-field-title"> <div class="field-label">Title:&nbsp;</div> <div class="field-items"> <div class="field-item odd"> Video and other features </div> </div> </div> <div class="field field-type-text field-field-body"> <div class="field-label">Body:&nbsp;</div> <div class="field-items"> <div class="field-item odd"> <p>The D3300 isn&#39;t big on extra features, really. The screen doesn&#39;t flip out, there&#39;s no built-in Wi-Fi, no built-in image stabilisation, no fancy-pants continuous autofocus when using Live Mode. How many of them matter? Depends on your needs. For general day-to-day use you won&#39;t miss most of them. Many Nikon lenses are stabilised, Wi-Fi is usually poorly implemented on cameras and unless you spend a lot of time shooting video, you can cope without the continuous autofocus. A flip-out screen would&#39;ve been nice, mind.</p> <p>Video quality itself is very good, with full HD 1080p footage available in 60/50/30/25/24fps flavours and a certain amount of exposure control on offer if you want it. The camera will also attempt to autofocus when shooting video, but it doesn&#39;t do it very quickly - it&#39;s certainly nowhere near as nippy as it is when tracking subjects through the viewfinder for stills.</p> <p>One nice touch is that there&#39;s an Effects mode on the main dial, meaning you don&#39;t have to hunt through menus in order to funkify your photos. The zoom range even allows you to create some depth of field effects that can give a much more professional whiff to your output.</p> <p>Indoors with the built-in flash, results are pleasantly lit so long as you&#39;re not too close to your subject. Without the flash you&#39;ll typically be dropping to shutter speeds of around 1/8th second at 800 ISO. That&#39;s too slow to freeze fast movement but fine for semi-posed shots. The level of noise at this kind of setting is quite apparent but colours remain well balanced.</p> <p>If you don&#39;t mind messing around with the flash settings you can get much better results indoors, at night or even on the dancefloor by taking advantage of the Slow Sync Flash mode, which freezes and illuminates your subject whilst exposing the background with a longer shutter speed than usual. Again, we applaud Nikon&rsquo;s commitment to retro, but it&rsquo;s worth bearing in mind before you slap your credit card down.</p> <p>You won&rsquo;t find flash or touchscreen control here, either &ndash; although, to be fair, you also won&rsquo;t find those on today&rsquo;s full-on professional cameras, so that&rsquo;s less of a surprise.</p> </div> </div> </div> <div class="field field-type-filefield field-field-image"> <div class="field-label">Image #1:&nbsp;</div> <div class="field-items"> <div class="field-item odd"> <img class="imagefield imagefield-field_image" width="1200" height="900" title="Nikon Df review" alt="Nikon Df review" src="http://images.cdn.stuff.tv/sites/stuff.tv/files/DSC_0547.jpg?1390818595" /> </div> </div> </div> <div class="field field-type-filefield field-field-image-2"> <div class="field-label">Image #2:&nbsp;</div> <div class="field-items"> <div class="field-item odd"> <img class="imagefield imagefield-field_image_2" width="1200" height="900" title="Nikon Df review" alt="Nikon Df review" src="http://images.cdn.stuff.tv/sites/stuff.tv/files/DSC_0488.jpg?1390818595" /> </div> </div> </div> <div class="field field-type-filefield field-field-image-3"> <div class="field-label">Image #3:&nbsp;</div> <div class="field-items"> <div class="field-item odd"> <img class="imagefield imagefield-field_image_3" width="1200" height="900" title="Nikon Df review" alt="Nikon Df review" src="http://images.cdn.stuff.tv/sites/stuff.tv/files/DSC_0534.jpg?1390818595" /> </div> </div> </div> <div class="field field-type-filefield field-field-image-4"> <div class="field-label">Image #4:&nbsp;</div> <div class="field-items"> <div class="field-item odd"> <img class="imagefield imagefield-field_image_4" width="1200" height="900" title="Nikon Df review" alt="Nikon Df review" src="http://images.cdn.stuff.tv/sites/stuff.tv/files/DSC_0542.jpg?1390818595" /> </div> </div> </div> <div class="field field-type-number-integer field-field-make-full-width"> <div class="field-label">Make full width:&nbsp;</div> <div class="field-items"> <div class="field-item odd"> Do not make full width </div> </div> </div> </fieldset> <fieldset class="content-multigroup-wrapper content-multigroup-4"><div class="field field-type-number-integer field-field-section-paginate"> <div class="field-label">Paginate on this section:&nbsp;</div> <div class="field-items"> <div class="field-item odd"> Don't paginate </div> </div> </div> <div class="field field-type-text field-field-title"> <div class="field-label">Title:&nbsp;</div> <div class="field-items"> <div class="field-item odd"> Verdict </div> </div> </div> <div class="field field-type-text field-field-body"> <div class="field-label">Body:&nbsp;</div> <div class="field-items"> <div class="field-item odd"> <p>The Nikon Df seems to achieve most of what it sets out to: it&rsquo;s suitably classic-looking without compromising too much on handling, it takes amazing photos, and it&rsquo;s taken a very clear aim at purist photo enthusiasts. We managed to get a brief fondle of the new Nikon DF, and crikey, it is a lovely thing.</p> <div class="field field-type-userreference field-field-byline"> <div class="field-label">Byline:&nbsp;</div> <div class="field-items"> <div class="field-item odd"> <a href="/users/will-dunn" title="View user profile.">Will Dunn</a> </div> </div> </div> <fieldset class="content-multigroup-group-sections"><legend>News Section</legend><fieldset class="content-multigroup-wrapper content-multigroup-0"><div class="field field-type-number-integer field-field-section-paginate"> <div class="field-label">Paginate on this section:&nbsp;</div> <div class="field-items"> <div class="field-item odd"> Don't paginate </div> </div> </div> <div class="field field-type-text field-field-title"> <div class="field-label">Title:&nbsp;</div> <div class="field-items"> <div class="field-item odd"> What DF is that </div> </div> </div> <div class="field field-type-text field-field-body"> <div class="field-label">Body:&nbsp;</div> <div class="field-items"> <div class="field-item odd"> <p dir="ltr">It’s a superbly attractive camera, with a design that harks back to classic Nikons of yore, particularly the FM and FE series of small, light SLRs that Nikon produced in the 1970s and 80s. Just as the FMs were aimed at both professional photographers and the lucky amateur skunks who could afford one, the DF is a professional DSLR that’s no bigger than a regular consumer camera and weighs just 710g (the D4, which has many of the same innards, weighs 1180g).</p> <p dir="ltr">It also takes its heritage seriously: thanks to a collapsible coupling lever, which is one of our favourite kinds of lever, you can attach classic non-Ai lenses from as far back as 1959 to the DF without a converter. To help with manual focussing there’s full-aperture metering through any lens, and the viewfinder is the same bright, clear pentaprism you’ll find in the D4.</p> <p dir="ltr">The top of the camera is a knob-fiddler’s dream, with sturdy mechanical dials made from proper metal for for speed, ISO, exposure compensation, exposure mode &amp; release mode. Although it’s the smallest and lightest FX camera it feels very well-made indeed, and those dials click firmly but smoothly for quick, sure adjustment of settings.</p> <p dir="ltr">Now the bad news: it’s £2750. That price does include a special-edition version of Nikon’s popular 50mm prime (you can’t buy it without the lens), but you’d still have to be a very lucky skunk indeed to afford one of these. Yes, it looks and feels a little nicer than the Canon 6D, but it remains to be seen if the DF can offer over £1000 worth of extra performance.</p> <p dir="ltr">Our first impression is that while it’s small and very pretty, the Nikon DF is emphatically not a rich man’s toy. This is a workhorse, a camera that can shoot 1400 shots between charges, that is rated to a shutter count of at least 150,000, that is weatherproofed and dustproofed but will still perform as well as its larger siblings in a studio. It makes us want it, while simultaneously wishing we were good enough at photography to even think about owning one.</p> </div> </div> </div> <div class="field field-type-hcmvideofield-video field-field-brightcove-video"> <div class="field-label">Video ID/URL:&nbsp;</div> <div class="field-items"> <div class="field-item odd"> <div class="messages warning">This video is not currently supported.</div> </div> </div> </div> <div class="field field-type-filefield field-field-image"> <div class="field-label">Image #1:&nbsp;</div> <div class="field-items"> <div class="field-item odd"> <img class="imagefield imagefield-field_image" width="1200" height="800" title="Nikon DF announced: small, light, full-frame and oh so pretty" alt="Nikon DF announced: small, light, full-frame and oh so pretty" src="http://images.cdn.stuff.tv/sites/stuff.tv/files/NikonDF04.jpg?1385689413" /> </div> </div> </div> <div class="field field-type-filefield field-field-image-2"> <div class="field-label">Image #2:&nbsp;</div> <div class="field-items"> <div class="field-item odd"> <img class="imagefield imagefield-field_image_2" width="1200" height="800" title="Nikon DF announced: small, light, full-frame and oh so pretty" alt="Nikon DF announced: small, light, full-frame and oh so pretty" src="http://images.cdn.stuff.tv/sites/stuff.tv/files/NikonDF02.jpg?1385689413" /> </div> </div> </div> <div class="field field-type-filefield field-field-image-3"> <div class="field-label">Image #3:&nbsp;</div> <div class="field-items"> <div class="field-item odd"> <img class="imagefield imagefield-field_image_3" width="1200" height="800" title="Nikon DF announced: small, light, full-frame and oh so pretty" alt="Nikon DF announced: small, light, full-frame and oh so pretty" src="http://images.cdn.stuff.tv/sites/stuff.tv/files/NikonDF03.jpg?1385689413" /> </div> </div> </div> <div class="field field-type-number-integer field-field-make-full-width"> <div class="field-label">Make full width:&nbsp;</div> <div class="field-items"> <div class="field-item odd"> Do not make full width </div> </div> </div> </fieldset> </fieldset> http://www.stuff.tv/nikon/nikon-df-announced-we-try-not-drool-it/news#comments Nikon System Cameras Tue, 05 Nov 2013 00:15:53 +0000 Will Dunn 1428736 at http://www.stuff.tv Nikon AW1: the world’s first underwater interchangeable lens camera http://www.stuff.tv/nikon/nikon-aw1-world-s-first-underwater-interchangeable-lens-camera/news <div class="field field-type-text field-field-standfirst"> <div class="field-items"> <div class="field-item odd"> Rugged, compact sub-aqua system features two new lenses – and can take a real pounding </div> </div> </div> <div class="field field-type-filefield field-field-main-image"> <div class="field-items"> <div class="field-item odd"> <img class="imagefield imagefield-field_main_image" width="1200" height="900" title="Nikon AW1 main" alt="Nikon AW1 main" src="http://images.cdn.stuff.tv/sites/stuff.tv/files/images/news/nikon-aw1-main.jpg?1379953233" /> </div> </div> </div> <p>Interchangeable lens cameras are often well-built, but few – if any – could take the kind of punishment you can dish out to the new Nikon AW1.</p> <p>Nikon claims this snapper, which fits into the company’s 1 system, is the world’s first water- and shockproof interchangeable lens camera ever.
